It is a lonely Friday night, you´re out with your friends playing and drinking till

sinking at the small town’s bar. You seem to be having a nice time laughing with
your friends but now is time to go home, so you take the bottle with what's left
of your beer. You start to walk aimlessly through the little town streets. But
wait, something feels wrong. WHAT IS THAT!!!

This is what happened to two friends Santiago and Camilo in Antioquia,

Colombia. They were drinking and gambling late at night while walking back
home a strange, big and scary figure appeared in front of them riding a giant
horse.

Santiago and Camilo started to run scared towards different directions trying to
escape from that big creepy figure who seemed to be pissed off by the actions of
the two friends. He chased them while screaming the phrase “If I catch you, I’ll
put it on you”. When he reached one of the friends he removed his giant hat and
threw it over him covering him completely. Luckily for him, this was just a
warning and nothing happened.

That creepy figure was anything else but The Big Hat, also known as “El
Sombrerón”. This terrifying man or creature is a popular legend in Colombia,
especially in Medellin, Antioquia where they say that he used to walk through
the streets riding his big black horse and his brave dogs tied up with big chains
looking for drunks and gamblers who are prowling around.

While he chases them he pulls his phrase “If I catch you, I’ll put it on you”, for
when he finally reaches them, throws them his gigantic black hat covering them
completely and disappears them to never be seen again.

There are other stories saying that The Big Hat also chases the people who use
little kids to put them to work selling things for them to collect the money made
by the end of the night. The Big Hat also chases and disappears them using his
creepy hat.

There are other versions of the story of The Big Hat. Some say he’s a big
skeleton covered with his black clothes and hat. In Guatemala, for example, he
seduces young women playing his guitar. In Argentina, he is a little goblin who
scares the little children in the hills.
It doesn’t matter which story we’re talking about, we’re pretty sure that the
legend of The Big Hat will prevail as long as it has hitherto. So whenever
you’re walking aimlessly drunk at night through the streets, beware of The Big
Hat. Remember to run without looking back when you hear him say “If I catch
you, I’ll put it on you”.
