ATA 38 WATER/WASTE

1. The reset switch on the pump controller will ?

a) Reset the A or B pump LED.

b) Reset the fault LED.
c) Reset the pump controller.

2. What effect would it have on the potable water system, if the fill line vent valve was
stuck in the closed position ?

a) The potable water system could be refilled as normal but if overfilled, instead of
venting overboard, it may vent to the cabin.
b) It would prevent Ultra Violet (UV) lamp from operating correctly & the FILL/DRAIN
valve would not be commanded to the open position.
c) Potable water may not able to be refilled as the fill line may have frozen in flight once
the FILL/DRAIN valve closed.

3. Which will inhibit the flush cycle of the vacuum toilet assembly ?

a) The seat has not been closed.

b) There is insufficient differential pressure between the cabin & outside atmosphere to
expel the waste.
c) The offside waste tank is indication full (any full tank will inhibit the toilet operation).

4. How are the Ultra Violet (UV) lamps monitored for correct operation during use ?

a) Central Maintenance Computing Function (CMCF) monitors for correct bulb light
output & electrical current flow.
b) REPLACE UV will show on the Cabin Attendant Panel (CAP) when potable water is
selected from the menu.
c) The UV DELAY indication on the service panel illuminates when it is drawing sufficient
& the brightness output is correct.

5. What is the purpose of the Grey Water Interface Valve ?

a) They hold a small amount of waste water once the onside waste tank is full.
b) They hold up to 24 ounces of waste water from the galley drains & lavatory sinks in a
reservoir & only empty when full.
c) They are controlled by a hosted software function in the Common Core Resource
(CCR) cabinet, & when sensed as full, are opened to the drain masts.
6. What selections must be made on the potable water service panel if you want to
flush the system ?

a) FILL & DRAIN.

b) DRAIN & MAINT.
c) MAINT & FILL.

7. During servicing of the left waste water system, the vacuum blower operated. It
operated correctly when servicing the right tank. What could be the fault ?

a) Vacuum blower is being constantly supplied 235V AC from P100.

b) Toilet seats are in the up position. All toilet seats must be closed during waste water
servicing.
c) The drain ball valve internal switch.

8. What impact would it have upon the waste water system if the left waste tank failed
to publish fill status to the Common Data Network ?

a) The lavatory would continue to flush; only stopping if the tank is indicated full.
b) The Flush Control Assembly (FCA) subscribes to this data & would not flush the toilet.
c) All toilets on both sides of the aircraft would stop flushing because of the loss of status.

9. If the waste tank point level sensor has failed, it loses the ability to detect when the
waste tank is full. What would happen in the event this happens ?

a) Loss of published data would result in all systems that use that waste tank being
disabled.
b) All systems would operate as normal but default to the serviceable waste tank until it
indicated FULL.
c) The Hydrostatic sensor provides a backup FULL indication if the point level sensor fails.

10. A Gray Water Interface Valve (GWIV) in the galley is not empty. What action could
you undertake to try & rectify this ?

a) Close the galley clog removal valve & operate the GWIV override switch.
b) Manual empty the GWIV using the hand pump.
c) Lock the galley clog removal valve closed & operate the GWIV purge test using Central
Maintenance Computing Function (CMCF).

NOTE:

How would you know that the UV lamps are operating correctly ?

Water/Waste function subscribes to CBIC data which monitors current flow through the
lamps. As lamps become weaker, current increases & a Maintenance Message is provided.
Lamps are replaced as pair.
What will inhibit & delay the flush cycle of the vacuum toilet assembly ?

Older aircraft require the seat & lid to be in the down position. Reflected by magnets aligning
with sensors. If not, the FCA will command the Lid-DOWN assembly to close the seat and lid.
Flush cycle is inhibited for 15 seconds from the last flush & lid must be up for at least 3
seconds.
