Telling Time
Timeis the continuous sequence of events that cannotbe reversed. We used
clocksto measure time.

TWO TYPES OF CLOCK


Analog Clock - is a clock that uses hands to show us the hours, minutes, and seconds.
The direction of the movement of the hands in an analog clock is calledclockwise.

Digital Clock -is atype of clock that displays numbersto display the time in a digital
format, such as on a watch, phone, or an alarm clock.
Elapsed Time- is the amount of time that passes between the beginning and the end
of an event.

How to solve elapsed time?


1.You can useaddition(+)to know when anactivity ends.
For example, Leigh started painting at 2:20 pm. She finished 20 minutes later.
What time did she finish the painting?

Time Started 2 hours 20

Length of Time + minutes

=2 hours 20
Answer: Leigh finished painting at 2:40 pm.minutes

2.You can usesubtraction(-)to knowhow long an activitytook.
For example, Abi finished sewing her dress at 9:55 am. It took her minutes
1 hour and 50 minutes to finish her dress. What time did she start?

Time Started 9 hours 55

Length of Time -1 hour minutes

=8 hours 50
Answer: Abi started sewing at 8:05 am. minutes
