INTRO

The United Nations was established

on October 24, 1945, in the aftermath
of World War II. It was created to
replace the ineffective League of
Nations and prevent future global
conflicts.
PURPOSE
The primary purpose of the UN is
to promote international
cooperation, maintain peace and
security, protect human rights,
provide humanitarian aid, and
support sustainable
development. It serves as a
forum for countries to address
global challenges collectively.

General Assembly for two-year terms.

of veto at one time or another. If a permanent member
does not fully agree with a proposed resolution but
does not wish to cast its veto, it may choose to
abstain - thus allowing the resolution to be adopted if
it obtains the required number of nine votes in favour.
