II.

Objectives:

Content Standard:

The interaction for survival among living and non-living things that takes

place in estuaries and intertidal zones.

Performance Standard:

The learners should be able to create a hypothetical community to show

how organisms interact and reproduce to survive.

Learning Competency:

The learners should be able to describe the interactions among living and

non-living things in estuaries and intertidal zones.S5LT-llh8

III. Performance Procedure

Guide Card

The living things in any ecosystem consist of the producer , consumers,

and decomposers .

Producers-are green plants, algae, or microorganisms that are capable of making

their own food. It provide energy and nutrients to other organisms.

Consumers- get their energy by feeding on plants and other organisms.

Therefore, all animals are consumers.

Herbivores are organisms/animals that eat plants only. They are known as the

primary consumers. Carnivores are animals that eat meat or other animals. They are

secondary consumers. Carnivores that eat herbivores are known as secondry

consumers and carnivores that feed on other carnivores are tertiary consumers. Some

animals animals , like humans , eat plants and animals are called Omnivores.

Decomposers get energy by breaking down dead organisms and their waste.

When they break down these dead organisms and wastes, nutrients from them

are returned to the environment. These nutrients are needed by plants for their

growth and development. Examples of decomposers are fungi and bacteria.

Food Chain

The feeding relationships among organisms can be shown by a food

chain. A food chain is a series of organisms in which each organism feeds on

another organisms and so on. It always begins with a producers

Food Web

When food chains are interlinked , they form a food web . A food web

consist of two or more food chains .

Activity Card

Arrange the jumbled letters to produce a word.

(TESAURY) 1.__________ it is the boundary where the fresh ecosystem meet a

salt water and ecosystem.

(SEROVIBREH) 2._________Organisms or animals that eat plants only.

(CANIRREVOS) 3._________Living things that eat other animals.

(SEIRVOOMN) 4._________Some animals like human eat both plants and

animals.

(DUCRESPRO) 5._________Provide energy and nutrients to other organisms.

(SRMECONSU) 6.________Get their energy by feeding on plants and other

organisms.

(COMDESERSPO) 7. ______Get energy by breaking down dead organisms and

their wastes. When they break down these dead organisms and waste nutrients

from them and returned to the environment . These nutrients are need by plants

for their growth and development.

STRATEGIC INTERVENTION MATERIALS IN SCIENCE 5

(SIM)

TITLE: WORLD OF ANIMALS

I.Rationale

Introduction

How can this SIM help the pupils to understand their least mastered skills

in Science?

For the pupils to master their least mastered skills this Strategic

Intervention Materials (SIM) in Science made for the pupils to enhance and

develop their skills about the Interaction of living and non-living things in

Estuaries and Intertidal zones.

Legal Bases

According to the 1987 Constitution Article XIV Section 1, The state shall

protect and promote the right of all the citizens to quality education at all levels and shall

take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all.

Integration of K-12 Curriculum

The overarching goal of our framework for K-12 Science Education is to ensure

that by the end of the 12th grade , all students have some appreciation of beauty and

wonder of science , possess sufficient knowledge of science.

Concept of Localization

Contextualization and localization is a new approach to learning and highlighted

in the K-12 Curriculum .Localization meanwhile involves adopting the curriculum to local

conditions and relating the content of processes of teaching and learning to the local

environment.
