and Management (MESM)
under the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST).
OVERVIEW AND PROSPECT OF THE DEGREE

Pollution and climate change are the major challenges of the 21st century. A substantial number of
qualified environmental professionals are needed both in home and abroad to efficiently handle those
challenges of our Mother Earth. Besides, today’s most careers have a linkage with environment, such
as, Business and Environment (Green Business), Finance and Environment (Green Banking),
Economics and Environment (Environmental Economics), and Development and Environment
(Sustainable Development). So, considering creation of environmental professionals and enhance
career opportunities, we offer an interdisciplinary weekend M.Sc./Master’s Program
with overlapping social, ecological and economic issues. It admits students from different
academic backgrounds.

The degree of M.Sc./Masters in Environmental Science and Management (MESM) from BUP has
been designed for producing the most competent environmental professionals and experts. The
degree will be awarded in two categories: M.Sc. for students from science background and
Masters for students from other disciplines. In addition, this program builds and strengthens
knowledge and environmental leadership as a critical foundation for the advancement of open and
environmentally sustainable societies. The employers of Environmental Science graduates include:

✓ Four years bachelor degree from any discipline.

✓ BA/BSc (Pass Course)/Diploma passed with Master Degree or 05 years’ service experiences.
✓ Armed forces personnel having 05 years of service experiences.

NOTES ON ELIGIBILITY

✓ For qualifications/degrees other than those mentioned, equivalence will be determined by

Equivalence Committee of BUP.
✓ Eligible applicants will have to appear in written test and viva voce.
✓ List of eligible candidates to get admitted in this program will be published in website and
campus notice board.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

➢ Application Processing Fee is Taka 1000.00 (One Thousand only).

➢ Application processing fee must be deposited to the account of MESM Program: Account
Name: MES, FST, BUP; Account No: 0028-0210012876, Trust Bank Limited, Mirpur
Branch, Dhaka. Applicants can also pay application-processing fees from any other branches
of Trust Bank Limited or from any other banks or via online transaction. In case of
submission of application fees from any other bank except trust bank, routing number
must be mentioned in the application form along with applicant’s mobile number.

➢ The application form has been attached with this notice and also available in BUP Website:
www.bup.edu.bd. You can also collect the form physically from program office, room no.
510, Academic Building, BUP.

➢ Interested candidates must download the form, fill relevant sections with signature and send
the scan copy of the form to mes@bup.edu.bd along with the proof of application processing
fee (scanned copy of the money receipt). Students must preserve the original copy of
application form and money receipt for future evidence.

➢ Students will get their admit card to their respective email address.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADMISSION TEST:

Eligible candidates will have to attend a written test followed by a viva voce. The syllabus of the
written test will cover contemporary environmental issues (both national and global) such as the concept of
environmental science, pollution of the environment (air, water, soil, noise, etc.), waste management,
climate change, environmental hazards and disaster, environmental policies, energy and sustainable

development and so on. The total marks on the admission test will be 50 (40 marks - written test, 10
marks – viva).

DOCUMENTS TO BE CARRIED DURING VIVA-VOCE

Candidates need to bring the following documents (both original and attested photocopies –
mentioned in next section) during viva-voce, failure of which will be considered as unfit for
interview. The original copies will be returned immediately after checking and the attested copies will
be received by the program office.
