6 1.0 ROUTINE BUSINESS

7 1.1 Opening Prayer: The meeting commenced with prayers led by Prof. Auwal
8 Ibrahim Magashi at 11:16 a.m.

9 1.2 Reading, Corrections, and Adoption of the Agenda: The agenda of the
10 meeting was adopted on a motion moved by Dr. Suleiman Dahiru and was
11 subsequently, seconded by Prof. Muhammad Alhaji.

12 1.3 Chairman’s Remarks: The Chairman welcomed Members to the 111 th

13 Emergency Senate Meeting. He informed them that, the meeting was
14 convened to consider the Second Semester 2021/2022 Examinations
15 Regulations and Irregularities Committee (ERIC) Report and Review of
16 Undergraduate Registration Fees.

14 2.0 SUBSTANTIVE BUSINESS:

15 2.1 Memo on Request for Review of the Undergraduate Registration Fees

17 The Chairman of, the Senate Business Committee (SBC) presented a Memo
18 on a Request for a Review of the Undergraduate Registration Fees for

consideration.

21 The Senate may recall that the State Government Policy on 50%
22 Registration Fee for all Kano State Indigenes for the State Tertiary
23 Institutions, and in compliance with the above Policy, the existing
24 Undergraduate Registration Fees for the Indigenes and non-Indigenes need
25 to be reviewed.

28 After extensive deliberations, the following observations were made:

29 Approval: The Senate approved the Review of the Undergraduate

30 Registration Fees as presented.

31 Note: By this approval, it is a violation for any Faculty, Department,

32 Directorate, or Unit to charge Students over and above these charges. It is

1 recommended that should there be any need to charge Students for any
2 service, the Department concerned should resort to the Senate for
3 approval, please.

5 2.2 Memo on Request for Upward Review of Laboratory Coats Fees

6 The Chairman of, the Senate Business Committee (SBC) presented a Memo
7 on the Request for upward Review of Laboratory Coat Fees. Considering the
8 high rate of working materials, the Directorate of Entrepreneurship and
9 Innovation Centre has proposed to review the Laboratory Coat Fees from
10 Three Thousand Two Hundred Naira only (N3,200) to Five Thousand Naira

only (N4,500).

13 Senate may wish to note that only concerned Departments involved in

14 Laboratory practicals will be allowed to charge Laboratory Coat for fresh
15 Students.

16 After extensive deliberation, the following observations were made:

17 1. The Senate has requested the Director, of the Entrepreneurship
18 Development Centre to present the cost analysis of the Laboratory Coat.

19 Approval: The Senate approved the request pending the presentation of the
20 cost analysis to the Senate.

22 2.3 Second Semester 2021/2022 Academic Session Examination Malpractice

23 Cases
24 The Chairman of, the Senate Business Committee (SBC) presented a Memo
25 on the Report of Examination Regulations and Irregularities Committee for
26 the Second Semester 2021/2022 Session Examination Malpractice Cases
27 for consideration.

29 After extensive discussions, the following observations were made:

31 1. Some Invigilators report to their Invigilation Venues late.

32 2. Some Invigilators fail to attend their invigilation without cogent reasons.
33 The Senate requested the Chairman University Scheduling Committee to
34 report those who fail to attend their invigilation at the end of each
35 Semester examination.
36 Approval: The Senate approved the Recommendations of the ERIC Report
37 for the Second Semester 2021/2022 Academic Session.

3 3.1 External Assessment Report for Promotion of Professorial Cadre:

4 The University Registrar informed the Senate that Assessment Reports for
5 the Promotions of the following Academic Staff to the rank of Professorial
6 Cadre were returned positive:

14 4.1 Adjournment: Prof. Abdu Muhammad Yaro moved the motion for
15 adjournment which was seconded by Prof. Iliyasu Garba.
