Fresher: Bachelor of Commerce.
From playing basketball for the past 8 years, I have learnt one important thing: working hard
always pays off and I believe I have the quality of diligence deeply ingrained in me. Born in
Ahmedabad to two event managers, I completed my schooling in 2015, consistently topping my
class. Thereafter, I took admission in Ahmedabad University and am currently pursuing Bachelor
of Commerce degree there. I got selected as a Students’ Council member and Sports Committee
member in my first year itself. I managed a lot of cultural and sports events while maintaining my
academic track record. In my second year, I was selected as the Sports Secretary of my college,
becoming the youngest office bearer of my college. As the Sports Secretary, I managed ‘Sports
Fest’ which saw about 600 students participating.

I am currently the Sports Coordinator of my college and am also the captain of my university
basketball team. One field where my ability to work hard pays off is when I plan trips. I love
travelling and have travelled to 6 countries and 13 states. In the last few years, the onus of
planning my family trips has been on me and I have been able to manage them pretty well –
keeping the costs at a minimum while making sure that we don’t miss out on anything.

Ever since I completed my 10th grade, I was certain that I wanted to get into management of
businesses and thus opted for commerce stream. Over the years, I have imbibed a broad overview
of the world of business. However, to make it more efficiently usable, a more in-depth knowledge of
these subjects would be required. The MBA curriculum offers a ton of options to choose from
regarding the subjects I want to study. This allows me to target competencies that would further my
career goal. I am thus interested in pursuing an MBA from a college as reputed as Narsee Monjee
Institute of Management Studies.

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, one of the top b-schools of India is committed to
developing a complete socially aware manager. NMIMS has become synonymous with
management education in India, having accomplished academicians, strong industry interface and
locate d right in the financial hub of the country. It conducts lecture series delivered by CEOs and
employs business simulation games – two methods of transferring knowledge that I believe will be
extremely beneficial to me. Apart from studies, NMIMS offers many opportunities to excel in other
disciplines such as sports, where the Sports Board of NMIMS is committed to providing
professional sports management services. I value the power of peer-to-peer learning from my own
experience which NMIMS provides. Narsee Monjee would thus take me a leap closer to my
ambition of holding a top managerial position in a reputed company

My principle for navigating life is ‘Dedication and commitment are what transfer dreams into reality’,
which is evident from the fact that I was able to shed 40 kgs in 4 months during my last semester,
bag 1st position in the Inter College Table Tennis Tournament and was among the college toppers
in my last semester.

An additional dimension to my life is that I am a sportsperson. Sports had been in my life from
childhood days. I stood 3rd in 300-meter category in National Skating Championship-2002, 1st in
21st Gujarat State Roller Skating Championship-2001. I am equally able in Table-Tennis as I
stood 1st in Table Tennis District Tournament-2006, bagged 1st in Table-Tennis in Inter College
Sports Competition during all the 4 years of my engineering.

Sports have helped me develop several skills in myself. Sports has also given me exposure
leading a team, getting the best out of team members, facing impromptu situations, establishing
good communication with people, being disciplined and working hard. I wish to pursue a career in
management that uses skills like the above. A manager requires such versatile skills. I wish to take
up challenging managerial roles that will best utilize and further hone these skills and help me
achieve great professional success.

Hailing from a middle-class family, education has been of prime importance in my life for
achievement of high goals. Being a state board student, I found it difficult to compete with peers
from other boards during the beginning of my graduation. However, a college like HLIC-the best in

you learn the less you know’, the desire in me to grow has only deepened ever since. It is justified
to accrue this desire to reading as well.

During my schooling I consistently strived to perform well in academics while also actively
participating in extracurricular activities like dance, sports and writing. Being curious to know the
world around me, I developed reading as a hobby from a young age. Always being eager to learn
about the functioning of human body and all living forms around us, I pursued Biochemistry in
graduation, from St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad.

Coming from a family where calculated risk-taking, versatility and the spirit of adventure are
appreciated, I soon developed an inclination towards travelling. For me travelling is about learning
practically from Mother Nature and developing kills to face adverse situations. With this in mind, I
co-founded ‘FunExpedia’, which later got incubated as a Startup at GUSEC. The team of
FunExpedia has an experience of organizing Everest Base Camp, 2017 for more than 200
participants from leading B-Schools. Howsoever successful an idea is, it brings competition. This
year there were four competitors but we emerged above the competition by officially associating
with XLRI and IIMB to organize more treks for B- schools and their alumni, Startups and
corporates. The experience of initiating a venture in service industry has taught me about product
and business development, vendor and team management, negotiation skills and customer
relationship.

Given the vision that we have for our venture and the lessons learnt, I realized that the learning
from a business administration and general management course will go a long way to help me
understand each aspect of business.

The course will add dimensions to my personality with its broad curriculum and diversity. NMIMS’s

individuals from across the country, getting the perspective of industrially relevant case studies and
being mentored by the prominent faculty would ensure that I get a major boost to attain my goals

Fresher: MicroBiology.

Change is the only thing constant in this world. To handle change effectively and successfully one
needs to have a sound balance between theoretical knowledge as well as practical implementation
ofthisknowledge. My graduation has enhanced my theoretical knowledge but participation in
various activitiesmademerealize that practical application of this knowledge is equally important.
Therefore I want to blend my hard skills to
the soft skills that MBA would teach me. I believe management education would be a stepping
stone to my future.

I have always been a consistent performer and have been amongst the toppers in college and also
have received scholarships for five consecutive years in school. Apart from academics I have
taken part in all sorts of activities from sports to theatre to dancing all throughout my school and
college. My prime interest being studies, I did not pursue any of these as a serious hobby but my
friends describe me very well as jack of all trades because I have basic knowledge and some
experience about almost every activity and never refrain from participating in events.

As a science student and college and state level winner in seminar presentation I have strong
research skills and communication skills. I also am a team player and had led my team in the IIM
SATVIK FOOD FESTIVAL with innovative ideas of prebiotics and probiotics. All these skills make
me inclined to marketing and HR. In the short run I would want to see myself working as a
marketing or HR manager in a reputed firm, but in the long run I wish to open my own firm where I
would amalgamate the innovative ideas of science with the managerial skills of MBA.

Being a fresher, where mind is like wet cement, anything that falls on it makes a lasting
impressionMBA from NMIMS would be the best way to reach my goal because of the exposure
both domestically and globally it gives to its students and its strong pedagogy. I also like the way it
nurture talents of students by various clubs and its location in the financial capital of India enables
us to have a strong view of the business and industries and also gives us a chance to learn.

Fresher: Bachelor of Arts: Economics, NMIMS – Hyd.

As a daughter of a woman who is the sole breadwinner of the household, I learned early how
tough it is to be an independent working woman in urban India. My mother works long hours in the
corporate world, always putting her professional duties above everything else, but rarely having
the opportunity to reap the rewards of her efforts. Witnessing this struggle birthed my interest in
the field of human resource management (HRM) as I deeply appreciate the need for companies to
nurture better employee relations and provide supportive and enriching work environments for
mutual growth.

During my school years, my empathy and compassion toward others helped me rise to lead the
social service club. I later went on to be a core team member of the youth organisation, Sauhard.
During my undergraduate studies, I was introduced to the fields of managerial economics and
industrial psychology, which further fuelled my ambitions.

I would like to pursue the HR program at NMIMS, to gain the skills and knowledge needed to
succeed in the HRM field. After completing the program, I aim to work my way towards being a
successful, empathic and proficient HR Manager at a leading company. In the long term, I aspire to
rise to the position of Director or Vice President of HR in order to bring about significant positive
impact on employee relations and recruitment.

Studying at NMIMS will be the ideal route toward achieving my goals because of the focussed
curriculum and distinguished faculty. I particularly look forward to working on various research
projects by Dr. Sashi Sivramkrisna and being an active member of the HRiday club.

I believe my strong academic record and leadership skills will make a valuable addition to the program
and I eagerly anticipate the journey ahead.
Fresher: Pharmacy.

I believe in my ability to learn new things. Since childhood, I have imbibed the qualities like
diligence and perseverance and displayed them in many activities, in academics as well as
extra-curricular activities.Ihave played sports like basketball, chess and table tennis at state level.
My oratory skills and writing ability has helped me win many debate competitions. I got an
opportunity to represent my institute in the universityby writing scripts and directing plays. As my
father owns a business in the pharmacy sector, it has always given me an environment to become
business oriented.

My goal immediately after completing my masters’ degree is to be in a good management team of

leading corporations. Thereafter getting the experience first-hand, I’d like to start my own
business and establish my father’s business in urban cities.

The potent communication skills I possess will help me while doing MBA. Being elected as Head
boy in school and Executive Head in student organization of our college, has inculcated leadership
quality which will be enhanced while I pursue MBA. I feel the zeal and competitive streak which is
required for management has been there since childhood by the participation of other activities. I
can also develop interpersonal and technical skills by doing MBA. It will help me to build a holistic
perspective of the industry.

I feel good infrastructure, industry interface, peer bonding and faculty interaction are very important
requisites for effective learning in MBA. The state of art infrastructure that NMIMS Mumbai
provides is best suited for any student. The holistic curriculum and international tie-ups that
NMIMS has are also the major assets, motivating me to be in NMIMS. Lastly, its well maintained
placement records will be of great support for me to enter the corporate world.

Fresher: Bachelor of Urban Planning

I am pursuing Bachelors in Planning from CEPT University. The curriculum at CEPT is designed to
bring about collaboration of students. Team work is therefore, just a way of life at college. This
learning environment at CEPT has disciplined me to work rigorously at a stretch for 15 hours, and
has contributed immensely in developing team skills, and a hard-working attitude.

During college, I used to visit my father’s office to help him with small tasks around the office.
These visitsto my father’s office inspired my interest in business and I chose to take electives
around differentmanagement concepts. Overtime, I developed an interest in the marketing space
and have therefore taken up the topicof ‘City branding’ for my final semester dissertation. The topic
will align my skills with interests, while introducing me to aspects beyond planning such as
marketing and branding in the context of a city.

Though I come from a technical background, I am driven by the nuances of a business. However,
until now, I have been taught things in a theoretical manner which sometimes leads to intuition
based decision making. I believe, a business education in the company of varied functional
specialists, would help me diversify my thought process and look at things in a realistic manner.

NMIMS’ case based methodology and a multi-disciplinary curriculum will help me progress from a
functional specialist to a manager and prepare me to apply my knowledge in the practical world.
Moreover, its strategic location, would not only provide me with an unparalleled exposure, but
immense learning and placement opportunities. After an MBA, a few years of corporate experience
in a managerial role will allow me toapply the knowledge I gained at NMIMS and thereby help me
pursue my long- term dream of a career in entrepreneurship.
Fresher: Bachelor of Dental Surgery.

The main goal of my life is to give back something substantial to the society. This is the reason I
took up healthcare profession and pursued dentistry. Throughout my life I have been lucky enough
to be chosen for leadership roles. I was elected the captain of my house in school. I was the
captain of the state volleyball team. During my graduation I was the head of the hostels committee
of my college. These roles have developed my interest in a managerial career. They have
developed group dynamics, sensitivity, and leadership within me. Dealing with a variety of patients
in dentistry in a day to day life I have learnt the skills of patience and tolerance. As my field is
directly related to healing and emergencies, I have encountered many a stressful situations and
have learnt to be functional under stress. All this early life experiences will help me develop my
skillsets in a managerial career.

NMIMS has carved a niche for itself since its inception in 1981. With an illustrious alumni -network,
a dynamic peer group, and an eminent faculty this is surely one of the best choices in the country
for acquiring management education. Studying from this institution will surely complement my
management knowledge in the business field.

In our country healthcare is a very important yet ignored industry. I see myself leading a hospital
chain in the future. MBA will help me acquire the skill and tactics required to begin and sustain a
business.it will help me bridge the gap between my skills as a health professional and my goals
as an entrepreneur.

MBA will not only help me gain expertise in my desired field, but will also be my asset for life. With
this aspiration I seek admission in NMIMS and look forward to fulfil my dreams.
Sample Statement of Purpose for Work Ex
Work Ex: Mechanical Engineering

“Dare to dream & work to win”- these are the words that thrive my hunger of learning. Right from
my childhood, I have never shied away from working hard & understanding the importance of
discipline, perseverance & dedication. It has helped me in persistently securing a place at the top
of the podium in academics & various co-curricular activities.

In the curriculum of mechanical engineering, analysis of complex problem cases and exploring the
best solutions have always been the keen areas of interest for me. These interests turned into an
opportunity when I was selected to work as a Research Associate (Automobile) at RAGC, Mumbai
- a prominentVocational training institute of India. An early, concrete experience of marketing for
me was being part of the vibrant team promoting vocational education in rural areas of
Maharashtra & Gujarat. As a part of my training, I was involved in designing & monitoring course
modules with diversified skill sets, aligning with the need of the automobile industry.

The only permanence in life is constant change. The transition from a training institute to a
manufacturing company has given me the opportunity to help architect the quality control system
which played a vital role in transforming the company to a substantial position. My experience from
multiple internships in diverse fields has been invaluable in performing my current role as a
Production Engineer at Shrinkwell Packaging, helping me provide commercially viable and
technically scalable solutions. I could understand and solve operational problems with the help of
acquired domain knowledge but I felt dearth of the in -depth domain knowledge required for
efficient product positioning in the market.

I believe MBA from renowned institute like NMIMS having its in-depth curriculum along with the
pedagogy of participatory learning i.e. analysis of Harvard business case studies&live projectswill
definitelyenhancemy domain competency. Continuous evaluation of students and support to them
through mentorship program constitute an integrated culture at NMIMS.The leadership skills and
the network I will acquire through an MBA, along with my industry experience, will help me achieve
my long-term goal in a strategy making role within an organization, managing a team of dynamic
individuals towards achieving best numbers in the business.

From being born in a middle income family to seeing at an age of 4, my father’s demise, it was my
mother who remained determined enough and it was due to her belief in me that I spent my
nascent days under the pedagogy of St. Xaviers. Ever since then, I have always remained
consistent in academics and was awarded a 5-year scholarship from the Central government.
Then, I pursued my graduation in BE Electrical from L.D College of Engineering, Ahmedabad.
During this tenure, I was a part of the various commitees such as the ‘VOX POPULI CLUB’ and
‘YOUTH CONNECT MAGAZINE.’
Having a work experience of 18 months with ‘LARSEN & TOUBRO’ and being a part of the EPC
business has enhanced my understanding of business sector. Working in Project Management has
facilitated working with cross functional departments and continuous interactions with the clients.
My onsite stint in
Commissioning has given me an opportunity to face different challenges faced while completing
various project activities.
These were the avenues that intrigued me towards Operations and as I don’t have a theoretical
knowledge of this subject, an MBA would provide me an environment wherein I don’t just study the
theoretical nuances but also apply my knowledge through various Business simulations, field
visits, live projects and develop a holistic view in order to perceive a business problem through
multiple perspectives.
My beliefs are synchronous with that of the NMIMS University’s that learning is most fruitful when
knowledge and expertise of individuals from diverse backgrounds are shared. NMIMS has Harvard
modules and case studies in curriculum, various student committees, great faculties and an alumni
network along with its location in the financial capital of the country which would provide better
industry exposure and thus better opportunities.

Petroleum University, I had the opportunity to intern with Larsen & Toubro. I was drawn towards the
management aspects of my duties as a trainee, and it helped me find my calling. With my
communication skills, an abil ity to read people and my inquisitiveness, I decided to chart my own
path, and I took up the role of Business Development Associate at a travel startup, SeekSherpa.

SeekSherpa taught me how to take initiatives and be adaptable. I became the face of my company,
directly dealing with all the stakeholders involved: customers, multinational organizations, tour
agencies, and tour providers on a daily basis. This helped me acquire the necessary leadership
skills to manage the workflow of summer interns,as well as take care of daily inventory of tours that
we put up on the website.

Working for 19 months and taking up so many roles, I realized the need to merge practical
exposure with theoretical knowledge. I believe that an MBA would help me bridge that gap, and
provide me with prerequisite skills required to make business decisions in the corporate world. An
MBA will also prepareme to take up bigger roles and responsibilities in the marketing and sales
domain.

A chance to study at NMIMS School of Business Management and explore the aforementioned

individual. I would be extremely honoured to be admitted to the school and am sure I would also
contribute to it with hard work and success.
Work Ex: Bachelor of Commerce.

I completed my graduation from H.L. Institute of Commerce in 2016. For the past 5 months, I have
been working as an Assistant Manager with Bahuchar traders, a manufacturing company in the
textile industry. My work in the organisation is to manage all the operations of the organisation,
right from purchasing raw materials to the completion of the product. I aspire to pursue my
post-graduation in Business Administration from a premier B-school of India to achieve my career
objective.
My short-term goal is to work in an organisation where I have opportunities to develop my skills,
take on interesting projects, work with people, from whom I can learn a lot and where I can apply
the knowledge gained during my graduation. As a teenager, I accompanied my father on his
factory visits. Seeing him face numerous challenges and emerging victorious, instilled in me the
belief that hard work, patience, and perseverance can help one achieve one’s goals. Gradually, I
developed an inclination towards setting up a venture of my own. Winning several business plan
competitions at college further strengthened my belief of moving towards my goal of becoming an
entrepreneur and boosted my confidence. This has also made me realize that I possess leadership
and team skills. With adequate experience and knowledge, I would like to start my own venture.
An MBA would help me get a better business network, holistic perspective of the business world,
new skills, and knowledge. It would help me to have an in-depth understanding of all the functions
of the organisation, and managerial and communication skills.
NMIMS’ case study approach of teaching would help me a lot to gain theoretical as well as
practical experience. It goes to great lengths to make students feel at home through its
mentorship program.

Work Ex: Bachelor of Commerce.

‘Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.’ – Theodore Roosevelt. I have always firmly
believed in this quote as it motivates me to thrive for the best results possible in any and every
situation. It has made me a responsible, disciplined & focused individual since my school years in
various cities where I had been the head prefect & house captain for 4 years through which I
understood the importance of discipline & potent, focused leadership. The transferable nature of
my father's job made me learn the art of adapting to changes. Having participated in fun fairs at
school, was my first taste of what a business, a sale, a negotiation meant.
I pursued my Bachelors in Business Administration from Atmiya Institute of Technology &
Science.Marketing & Communication were the two domains in which I had a special interest,
participating & winning competitions at various levels, helped me prove my mettle in the same field.
An opportunity to handle the marketing & scheduling for the flagship management event ‘AATMAN'
in 2013 which saw an increase in sponsorship portfolio, participants, & MDP attendees, owing to
which I was promoted as the Chief coordination in 2014. I also completed a live project where I
conceptualized & bootstrapped a library -café. Also having worked part time with a Marketing
agency kept me occupied after study hours.
I was placed at L&T ECC, as an Administration supervisor. During my training, I had the
opportunity to have a macro view of the functioning of a huge diversified conglomerate highlighting
the importanceofcompetent cross departmental communication. A major part of my work was
handling client relations, liaising with various government personnel & negotiating various
procurement decisions with suppliers pan India, which was in line with my interests.
Having a lucid idea that I want a career in marketing and a strong desire to lead a team for
organizations such as HUL, P&G in the long run, makes pursuing an MBA a logical choice to
enhance my skills and built on what I have learned during my tenure at L&T. I have had a macro
view of the field but an MBA at NMIMS will equip me with the skills I need to understand micro
aspects of marketing & implementing the same to achieve qualitative, tangible results for the
organization I work for in future. NMIMS has been the top choice for Business education and being
situated in the commercial capital of India, will provide me ample hands-on learning experience,
along with the case study approach that the college follows.

Work Ex: Computer Engineer.

Competitiveness, Team skills and Leadership are the defining traits of my desire for a Management
career. My academic record of being a consistent topper throughout school and college reflect my
hardworkingand competitive approach and a strong passion for education. Being elected as class
captain throughout school and having served as the Group representative (GR) of my batch at the
Initial Learning Program (ILP) of Tata Consultancy Services showcase my leadership skills. Over a
period of two years in TCS, I have been a part of both: team projects as well as single-handed
project. The former has sharpened in me excellent team skills while the latter has trained me in
managing project deadlines on my own while working with the client. The data analytics projects
with the client, General Electric, has given me immense exposure to the industry.

Given my quest for a career in Relationship Management, I seek the General Management
programme from NMIMS. Po

st my MBA from NMIMS, I envisage my long- term future as a Business Relationship Manager in a
global technology consulting practice, partnering with businesses to usher in transformational
changes in the way businesses think and operate. I look forward to engaging myself in teams
comprising professionals from diverse backgrounds and dovetailing strategic business concepts
with real-time implementation projects.

One of the biggest draws of applying for MBA Program at NMIMS is its geographical location, the
heart of the country. Opportunities for summer internships would enable me to make the right
transitionaldecisions regarding my choice of industry. I also believe that the high calibre faculty at
NMIMS is a real differentiator. Best of all, the intense selection process at NMIMS assures me that
I will have the opportunity to study with peers who are outstanding in their fields and will create an
unforgettable educational experience.
On a personal level I am looking at the MBA experience to endow me with a top-notch toolkit of all
aspects of management consulting and strategy, allowing me to further enhance my leadership
capabilities and expand my horizons.
Work Ex: Biotechnology Engineer.
I grew up in Ahmedabad in a neighbourhood that had a strong sense of family. My father started
his own business in 1990 and my mother was a teacher. This instilled in me, at a very young age,
the value of work, education, and independence. I received distinction throughout my schooling
years and also startedreading from a very young age. I have since enjoyed the cognitive, spiritual,
and emotional stimulation that books provide. I completed my graduation in Biotechnology.

Along with my education, I was involved in sports. I pursued basketball for 10 years and volleyball
for 4 years, participating in and winning various district and state level competitions. I have also
been practicing MMA since the past 1.5 years. I also took part in and won various debate and
extempore competitions, which polished my communication skills and has and made me a
confident public speaker. I organized various events in school and college, which gave me an
insight into management especially managing and retaining human resources.
After my graduation I went on to work as a project engineer in Wipro Technologies where I
provided technical and product support. I was also the work flow manager and was responsible for
handling urgent and critical issues for my team of 10 members through which I learnt a lot about
team building and its dynamics.
All of my experiences have been instrumental in making me an organized and disciplined
individual and have nurtured a sense of responsibility, leadership and accountability - all of which
are essential to become a good manager.
An MBA HR program will help me gain perspective, learn, and solve challenges related to one of
the most crucial element of any business – its people. Industry exposure, interaction with experts
in the field of management, and building a network over the coming years will help me develop
skills and competencies to create HR solutions and tackle change management. With a legacy of
35 years, NMIMS is one of the most dynamic Universities in our country. World class programs,
excellent pedagogy, and the University’s partnership with SHRMare an excellent platform to learn
from industry experts. I believe that the time, energy and money I will spend here will be well
rewarded.
Work Ex: Computer Engineer.

Right from school days, I have been a consistent performer in academics. I also have participated
in extra- curricular activities which further helped me to strengthen my personality. For instance, I
was class representative in early days of school and also served as a committee member of boy’s
hostel during BE.

My stint as a Software Engineer has given me a fair amount of feel about an importance of
customer satisfaction and product quality. Real-time participation from beginning to the end of
launching the product made me realized that being able to handle complex problems from a
multi-faceted approach would become increasingly important in the 21st century. I also have faced
few situations where my role was not just limited to technicality but also present results to the
senior management which can help them to take decisions. This made me understood an
importance of soft skills on broader level. Such things inculcated me with the belief that there are
lots of opportunities that include an exposure of involving me into decision making and business
side intensively.
My enthusiasms for the same lead me to accept a beginner role into management as a business
development executive where I learned basic tactics of marketing, meeting different type of
stakeholders, negotiate with them, convince them about USP of products we were offering, make
them chew advantages they will be making out of this.
Owing to my predilection for managerial roles, at this juncture of my career, I feel that an MBA
would help me get equipped with tools to realize my long time goal of playing meaningful and
substantial role and eventually lead a talented group of people in a successful organization.
NMIMS Mumbai enjoys an illustrious alumni-network, campus location in financial capital of the
country, dynamic peer group and an eminent faculty. With the help of rigorous curriculum, I will be
able to learn the nuances of business involved in broader perspective with the right kind of attitude,
ability to control and manage efficiently. It is surely one of the best choices in the country which will
provide better exposure along with the profile of one’s interest.

Work Ex: Bachelor of Business Administration, Advertising.

After completing my graduation specializing in Advertising from Symbiosis Centre for Media and
Communication, I worked for 16 months with Rediffusion Wunderman – a direct marketing firm in
Mumbai. I joined as a Project Executive but 10 months into the job, was awarded a double
promotion, and for the remaining part of my tenure, I worked as a Senior Account Executive, where
my responsibilities expandedto include management of a 12-member team for Rediffusion
Wunderman’s largest client – Audi India.

This experience served to greatly enhance my confidence. Moreover, the role made me more
patient, compassionate, people-oriented, and empathetic. My sense of accountability grew stronger
and I learnt to take ownership for my team’s mistakes as well as proudly give credit where it was
due. I also develo ped a broader, more holistic perspective.

Despite having been entrusted with this role and responsibility, I felt was not equipped to take
decisionson my own, and was being micro managed owing to my unfamiliarity with formal
management theory; consequently, I was still very far removed from the decision-making and
strategizing part of the job, which I believe I have the potential for.
To learn the dynamics of the complex business environment and become a proficient manager, I
feel a professionally designed business administration program is my best bet. A formalized
education in management would equip me to take on decision-making and strategic roles in an
organization, allowingme to contribute more significantly and meaningfully to its growth and
development.
NMIMS, with its contemporary curriculum with a focus on experiential and personalized learning
through live projects, exposure to real-market scenarios via simulation of real-world business
problems, and guest lectures by corporate leaders and industry stalwarts, will surely empower me
with a broader strategicvision in addition to grooming me to be a holistic and well-rounded
individual.
Work Ex: Electronics and Communications Engineer.

With an undergraduate degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering and a work

experience of almost 3 years in Tata Consultancy Services as a Systems Engineer, I have
developed the technical skills and learned the business implementation of these skills. I am working
on one of the products in Engi neeringand Industrial Services (EIS) domain, where I am
responsible for developing the features of our product and customize our product based on
customers’ requirements. Working closely with our management and sales team, I also carry out
tasks to improve the credibility of our product and gain a competitive edge over rival products.
Taking business decisions and creating a strategy to carry out these tasks, gave me an opportunity
to improve my analytical skills. This gave me a brief insight into the busi ness side perspective of
an organization from a technical perspective.
This experience has encouraged me to pursue a course in management and take these skills to
thenextlevel. By acquiring these skills, I aspire to enter into consulting roles in technology sector.
After gaining experience in this sector, I aspire to start a venture and offer my product to the
market.
I firmly believe that NMIMS, being a top B-school, will help me sharpen my managerial skills. Its
superior industry interface, diversity, network of contacts with top professionals and its location in
Mumbai with its huge corporate presence will give a head start to my career.
Work Ex: Chemical Engineer.
Values that a person derives during his school life remain with him for life time. From my days at
school, I started recognizing that hard work, perseverance, honesty to oneself, constant
improvement is the foundation block for a successful life. It also helped me become a top
performer in school and be the Gold Medallist in Civil Engineering.
Graduating from Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, I was selected by Tata Chemicals Limited
as a Graduate Engineer Trainee. The induction and training session enlightened me on the
importance of customer needs, quality control, safe and positive work environment, impact of
communication and pro- activeness. I was first introduced to management with the responsibilities
of an Assistant Manager in Civil Projects department. While working on a construction project I
came across numerous individual an d interdependent activities. During the course of my work I
discovered how difficult but important it is to delegate and coordinate work. I was impressed by our
department executive head playing a leader rather than a manager, the impact of his decisions on
the organization.
While I carried out my responsibilities to the appreciation of my superiors, I felt the lack of
professional experience and qualification to manage different challenges and scenarios. To
successfully develop as a better leader and help organizations through my decision making ability,
I would need a thorough understanding of various business domains, corporate strategies, and
global markets as well.
Due to diverse peer groups and excellent pedagogy of NMIMS, I would be able to enhance my
managerial skills. The Industry Institute Partnership Cell will help me acquire intellectual skills that
are needed in a constantly changing industry. The national level events conducted by OPTUMIZ
will help me haveinteraction with industry stalwarts. An MBA from NMIMS will help me fulfill my
aspirations.
Work Ex: Entrepreneur.

Even while pursuing a bachelors of commerce from Ahmedabad University, I have tried to gain
practical exposure through internships and my venture www.Trendingus.com which I have
cofounded.
I have worked on my leadership skills, team-working abilities and risk appetite with the help of my
venture and participation in various national level intellectual events. I have learnt to work for the
community and societal development through the AIESEC and Radio NAZARIYA. I have also
played football up to state level.
My career goal is to work with some of the most innovative conglomerates of the country and to
create a positive impact to the organization. After obtaining experience from various industries, I
would like to pursue entrepreneurship or business consultancy. In the coming years, I see myself
leading/working with a team of employees towards fulfillment of individual & organization’s goal. I
wish to pursue MBA from one of the leading b-schools of the country to fulfil my career goal. My
inquisitive nature and quick learning ability will help me immensely in the process of learning.
I believe School of business management (SBM) of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management
Studies (NMIMS) will be a great crafter for my talent and provide me the best opportunities.
NMIMS with its premium, advantageous location in the commercial capital of India will allow me
great e xposure. Further, the peer learning, rich alumni network, guest lectures by industry experts,
business magnates and case - study based practical pedagogy will be enriching. I also find
‘SAMRIDHI’ & ‘NM premier league’ to be a wonderful practical learning opportunity for students of
NMIMS.
Thus, An MBA from NMIMS will not only add substantial value to my skillset/help me gain
expertise in my desired area of interest but will be an asset for life.
Work Ex: Civil Engineer, HR.

First major management and teamwork experience I got in my life was when I got the opportunity to be
the Administrative head of Orces (Organization of civil engineering students) in the college I organized
competitions at various levels which inculcated in me the belief that I can take decisions and
achieve team goals. I am a strong believer of performing to the best of my capabilities which
propelled me to win “Eco Palazzo” a green building design competition and a paper presentation
competition at national level symposium. Clearing the Services selection board (SSB) of Indian
Army at Bhopal, an institution recognized for selecting the best leaders for the armed forces of
India was a testimony of my versatility.

Work experience with L&T has provided me with the opportunity of interacting with HR
professionals regularly because of whom I was able to understand the variegated roles played by
human resource department in tackling issues related to employees, providing training to
employees to keepthemmotivated and skilled to achieve organizational success. My career goal is
to work with an MNC that will allow me to play an active role in achieving organizations goals and
objectives. Ten years from now I see myself as an independent human resource consultant,
providing professional advice to clients and organizationstoassist them in taking best decisions
related to Human capital.

NMIMS has Collaborations with aggregators like “Ebsco” and “Proquest” in addition to its vast
internally managed corporate database that will give an ample opportunity for a student like me to
pursue myinterests further. Along with comprehensive projects that will give me an opportunity to
work on live issues , NMIMS will also help me gain cross-industry and cross-functional perspective
from the diverse backgrounds of my peers.

NMIMS equipped with a strong legacy of 35 years, experienced faculties along with a regular
update of curriculum with the feedback from industries and alumni , will provide a perfect platform
for me to pursue MBA in Human Resource Management.

Work Ex: Civil Engineer, HR.

From my childhood I have seen the people in my family become successful because of their
academic excellence and career centric goals. I tried to do my best towards the objective I aimed
for. I have a keen interest in meeting new people and travelling. When I joined Nirma University, the
first thing I didwastojoin all the clubs in the college and started working in the sponsorship
department and worked for 2 years with them. This was a great experience as I met a lot of people.
Other than this I also play lawn tennis and am a semiprofessional weight lifter.
I am a civil engineer and I chose this field because other than the design and material aspects, civil
engineering is all about management. During my graduation, I have worked as an intern with three
different construction companies and I have worked under the marketing heads and the project
managers. These internships taught me a lot and helped me develop my social skills and how to be
an effective leader. I am currently working as an intern with Larsen and Toubro Group, Mumbai as a
junior project manager. A post graduate course in management will increase my potential and give
me the push I will need to enter the corporate world.
I also have a keen interest in marketing as the through which goods and services move from
concept to the customer intrigues me. Marketing is based on thinking about the business in terms
of customer needs and their satisfaction and it gives me a sense of fulfilment in knowing that those
needs are met.
NMIMS is located in Mumbai which will give a great exposure and help in networking with its cross
industry and cross functional perspective. It follows a case study based approach to teaching by
engaging academic community as well as corporations. This will encourage independent thinking
and enhance my decision making skills. I believe that NMIMS is best equipped to help me achieve
my objectives.
Statement of Purpose for Chartered Accountants
Work Ex: Chartered Accountant

Coming from an all science background, with both the parents being science graduates, I was
presumed to be the logical successor to the family manufacturing business. However, a knack for
numbers backed by a consistently good academic career and determination to carve out my own
career paved a way to my becoming a Chartered Accountant. Pursuing the Chartered
Accountancy course has brought out the traits of focus, determination, hard work and has
developed a grit to face challenges. The three years of articleship gave me a hands on experience
of working across industries and across different forms of businesses.

An exposure to a cross functional and cross geographical assignment for a textile giant of the
country helped me understand the importance of team collaboration, team building and business
relationship management. Handling assignments for various industries like manufacturing,
education, hospitality and banking and finance amongst others. This has helped me better
understand industries and businesses which I would like to excel in in the future. Participation in
college free style dance club ‘Seekho’ developed the traits of coordination and aligning individual
interests to a common objective. Active participation in Oratorship and Model Making competitions
have curated the skills of presentation and public speaking.

Learning more about the nuances of the financial sector in the Chartered Accountancy curriculum
piqued my interest and made me passionate towards a career in the financial industry. The
inspired me to pursue the Chartered Financial Analyst course of which I am a Level III candidate.
Strong number crunching and analytical skills have been the learning outcomes of this course.
While both CA and CFA courses have given me ample classroom learning and technical expertise,
a NMIMS MBA in finance focused on research and experimental learning will open the doors to the
plethora of opportunities in the venture capital industry. After making a name in the industry and
gaining expertise, I wish to build my own team and start own venture capital firm.

NMIMS is the most suitable ground for interaction with diverse minds and learning from industry
veterans. Its goal towards providing dynamic academia in tune with the changing environment is a
perfect fit for a career in the ever dynamic financial industry. The curriculum, a perfect mix of
classroom learning and opportunities for practical exposure via research opportunities and
internships acts as a launch pad for achieving my goals.

Work Ex: Chartered Accountant

I have completed CA in May 2016, clearing all its levels in the first attempt. Three years of
Articleship in G.K. Choksi & Co., Direct Tax Department, has given me the opportunity to develop
my research, interpretation and drafting skills while preparing communications for the clients.
Working in the preparation of
submissions to Income Tax Settlement Commission for two clients carrying out construction
activityhas given me a deep insight into the construction industry. In August 2016, I started my
proprietary firm Dhwani A Shah Chartered Accountants with the guidance of my father, also a
practicing CA.
A consistent academic performer, I am also a passionate dancer and choreographer - trained in
Bharatnatyam for 5 years and in Vocal Hindustani music for 3 years- winning dance and music
competitions up to state-level. My leadership abilities were honed with every leadership role that I
took up – school prefect, house vice-captain, leader and organiser of the school annual day and
the 5-day long cultural fest. I have been selected twice to participate in the Frank Anthony Debate
at the regional level.
I intend to take job experience for 5-7 years and eventually develop a multi-disciplinary and
consultancy firm. Achieving this goal takes much more than subject knowledge. I therefore want to
pursue MBA to develop my overall managerial and leadership qualities.
The vital feature of NMIMS Core MBA Program is that I am not required to select a single field of
specialization. This enables a multi- dimensional development that is required for a long-term
entrepreneurship endeavour like the one I aim at. An understanding of how various industries work
is vital for my long-term plans. NMIMS being in Mumbai, using the case study method to deliver
knowledge makes it a tailor-made path for me to achieve my success.
Work Ex: Chartered Accountant
“Don't wish it were easier. Wish you were better.” A statement which has been motivating me and
will keep motivating me to reach a notch higher and better in all my endeavours. I have always
tried to embed this discipline, of striving for continuous improvement, in me.

I wish to become an authority in finance and strategy. In short run, I want to get expansive
exposure and deepen my understanding of various functions like Investment Banking, Corporate
Finance, Mergers and Acquisitions, Research and Structuring etc. and identify my core
competency. In the long run, I would want to head one of these functions and be in the top
management of a multi-national corporation.

It was during the time when I was studying for my graduation as well as for Professional
Qualification of Chartered Accountancy, I realized my calling was Finance and Strategy. It was then
I decided that my career objects towards management and I shall do utmost efforts, holistically, to
learn the subjects, work, and functions under this umbrella. I was 21 then and my aspirations and
efforts have only become specific since then. I have taken Professional Qualifications of Chartered
Accountancy, Cost and Management Accountancy and Company Secretary and a Bachelors of
Commerce in Accountancy, I also need a
manager’s perspective to get an all-inclusive understanding of a business organization and to
advance through managerial positions.

I have pursued multiple professional qualifications and authored eight research papers which have
helped me in building perseverance and to continuously strive for better, conceptual, clear and
rational understanding about any idea. My work life has taught me time management, team
connections, rewiring the box etc. and being a sports person has helped me get a disciplined
outlook of life. Hobbies like photography and cinematography have allowed me to appreciate
different perspectives.

My ideologies align with NMIMS belief in the philosophy of transcending horizons by going beyond
the average, putting in that extra mile, extending to excel and win on all accounts. The college
situated in the financial hub also provides exposure to various opportunities. The dynamic and
aggressive rigour of the course helps in shaping intellectual curiosity, knowledge and personality
traits. Apart from the specialized education, it helps to develop, practice and enhance skills of
self-discipline, time management and working in diverse environments.

Theodore Roosevelt said “Nothing worth having comes easy.” I firmly subscribe to this thought and
experienced it first hand during the journey of Chartered Accountancy. I faced various ups &
downs and there were times when I felt like giving up, and that is when this philosophyhelped me
the most.
Eventually, I managed to clear it in the first attempt. This journey taught me patience and
perseverance. Being a cricket aficionado since childhood and also having played the sport at
different levels, cricket taught me to be a team player, which I believe is an essential learning for
any management role.

In the long run, I wish to achieve a senior managerial position in a large organization and want
to be in a position where in I can take strategic decisions and significantly advance the
organization.

Having acquired a deep theoretical understanding of the financial aspects of an organization

through CA and the practical exposure by 3 years of intensive Articleship at “M/s Talati&Talati”, a
leading CA Firm of Gujarat, I believe that the next logical step for me in accordance with my goals
is to develop my manage rial skills and knowledge of other domains of business by pursuing MBA.
Add something more tangible here, about how MBA will help. Only in one short sentence, not
exceeding the word limit.

NMIMS, with over 36 years of academic experience, is one of the premiere B-schools of the
country. Its unique course structure and case study based pedagogy is second to none. The
atmosphere that it provides in terms of a variety of extra—curricular activities would help me hone
my leadership skills. Also, the fact that NMIMS is aiming for global status, as highlighted on the 15th
University Day only bodes well for the students as it will give a diverse exposure of different
cultures to them.
Sample Statement of Purpose for Fresher Engineer

Fresher: Mechanical Engineering

My nascent days were shaped by Bhagwati International Public school Patan, then I moved to a
residential school for further studies. Despite being a mediocre student at first, I managed to top
my class with a 93.6%. Those two years taught me that with a positive attitude and hard work,
anything can be achieved. I am in the final year of B.Tech in Mechanical discipline. The practical
aspects of my education have always intrigued me and thus I have done various projects like
‘Modification of desert coolers’, ‘Performance analysis of eco-friendly refrigerants and an industrial
defined project on ‘Machining and finishing’. I was also the publicity co-ordinator of my college’s
techno-cultural fest ‘Repertus 2k16’, where I led a team of 50 students and managed to get a flux
of 1500 students. I have also been part of a cultural club ‘INK’ where I organised and hosted many
cultural events.
Managing my team and organising events successfully boosted my desire of pursuing business
administration as a career option. Various subjects taught to us in bachelors such as ‘Economics’
and ‘Infrastructure Planning and management’ have always interested me. The focus on
theoretical aspects of the subjects helped me develop a reasonable understanding of the
concepts and pushed me towards its practical aspects. My primary objective of doing MBA is to
put myself under rigorous training and acquire analytical, logical and problem solving skills. My
long term goal is to be at a general management position and lead my department to help my
organisation and people associated grow.
School of Business Management (SBM),NMIMS is one of the most prestigious B-schools in the
country. Situated at the financial capital of India SBMhas vast experience in the f ield of
management education. SBM follows a case study based approach to teaching by engaging both
academic community and corporations to conduct courses based on the same. This will encourage
independent thinking and improve my decision making capabilities. Moreover students are
required to apply the theoretical concepts learned on live industry projects.
Thus I believe SBMis best equipped to help me achieve my objectives. I have no doubt that I
too will contribute to the forward march of NMIMS by always giving my best efforts if
selected.

Besides my academics, I have been actively involved in sports, cultural & social activities, college
projects. I had actively participated in various Intra and Inter college cultural gatherings and some

Having done my schooling from Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Assam, three different corners of our
country and pursuing my graduation from Gujarat, I have gained diverse cultural experiences and
have grown into a practical and empathetic individual.
As a student of a Convent school, I realised the importance of discipline, punctuality and dedication
atavery young age in life. My graduation in Mechanical Engineering has not only given me a sense
of how things function from a technical point of view but also enhanced my capability to analyse
problems with a quantitative approach. My graduation in Engineering has taught me to be able to
effectively connectthedots from the books to solve the practical problems of the outside world. I
took learning beyond the four wallsof the classroom by participating and organising various events
in the college. During my graduation, I worked as the event manager in "Augen”- a socio-cultural
club, organising various events, among which the flagship event being ‘TEDxNIRMAUNIVERSITY’.
Working with a group of diverse people not only enhanced and developed my leadership and
communication skills but also helped me to become a better team player.
Although my interest in business management has been deep rooted, it grew stronger while
working in the club. Throughout the tenure, the more experience I gained, the more eager I
became to explore the worldof business in depth. By pursuing a management degree, it will allow
me to challenge myself by learning new concepts which will not only fulfil my short term goal of
improving quality of my life along with the benefit of the organisation but also my long term goal of
being one of the best and successful manager inthecountry.
NMIMS, known for its corporate connectivity and emphasis on experimental learning, where
students are encouraged to work on live industrial projects, will empower me with strategic vision,
contributing to my development as a efficient manager. Its strong belief in “one cannot be lectured
into a great decisionmaker” makes me further inclined towards the college’s environment. Having
seminars and guest lecturesofindustry experts, faculty members with great expertise in their
respective fields and diverse mindsinpeergroupwhich will be a great guiding resource, is what I am
looking forward to.

“Listen, Learn, Act, Excel” This quote is the guiding principle which augments my curiosity to
learnsomething that interests me. After acknowledging the source, I try my best to satisfy the
curiosity by dedication, staying optimistic & pursuing it till the end. During my schooling, I was
amongst the toppers in 10th and secured distinction in 12th. I also secured a rank within top 1%
throughout India in AIEEE and got admission in Institute of Technology, Nirma University. Presently,
I am pursuing Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and have done several projects till now with
‘electromagnetic rail gun on spider drone’ as my final year project. Apart from academics, I have
also been actively involved in extra-curricular and sports activities. I was the chief
administrator and sponsorship head of an on-campus socio-cultural club which organized a
National-level cultural festival “Horizon’15” followed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy music concert with a
budget of INR 44 lakhs. I was also the playing manager of a cricket team in Nirma Cricket
League’15 and stood 2nd in the tournament. In my leisure time, I like to play bowling and read
success stories of business personalities.
After completing my MBA from a reputed Business school, I want to work with a MNC for 4 to 5
years and gain rich corporate knowledge about the business process which will help me in
promoting my entrepreneurship interest. A professionally designed MBA program will instill many
skills in me like taking calculated risk, forming effective collaborations to enhance team
performance and sound decisi on making which will help me to establish myself in the industry
where I have decision making power and enough resources to contribute back to the society.
NMIMS with its visionary director Dr. Debashis Sanyal, esteemed and experience rich faculty, wide

Self-improvement is a continuous process and I firmly believe that one should always strive
towards enhancing one’s analytical, interpersonal and social skills. A bachelor’s degree in
Mechanical Engineering from Nirma University, Ahmedabad has infused the required domain
knowledge in me. Being a meritorious student throughout and a Gold Medalist in college has given
a strong foundation to analytical skills and strategic problem solving. Fond of mathematics, I joined
the abacus program and was awarded second position in State Level Mental Arithmetic
Competition and was a city topper in International Mathematics Olympiad.
Being a Student Head of Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Cultural Head of Enchanted Rhythms
Club has given me an excellent opportunity to hone my leadership skills. I was a team member of
automobilecluband participated in various competitions of Go-Kart racing conducted throughout
India. We won best B-Plan award for the same. Managing events and fests like Praveg, Nu-Tech
has helped me in organizing work at a larger scale. I have also served NGOs like Keep India
Clean, Sparsh, and Make a Difference.
I believe that my mechanical skills, interest in mathematics and planning and my rudimentary
efforts at planning and organizing will serve as basic skills to carve a career in operations research,
resource planning and supply chain management. However, without an MBA, a career in
operations management isimpossible. An MBA will teach me the dynamics of complex business
environment and help attain man agerial competence.
NMIMS being one of the premier institutes of country will facilitate my becoming a proficient

During my school time, my parents used to quote "Winner must have two things: definite goal and
burning desire to achieve it." They also taught me the importance of studies as well as
extracurricular activities therefor in my school and college, I was an active sports person and
handled various cultural and sports events and able to manage a respectable academic
background. I have been playing football club since 2010 for a local club and have competed at

Having keen interest in machinery, I opted mechanical engineering. During college, industrial visits
and training had a substantial impact on deciding my career path. I aspire to start my own
manufacturing unit. I am currently working at a manufacturing entity where production and quality
control are my key functions. My industrial experience of handling a production team of 12 workers
has helped me emerge as a good
leader, which requires an ability to identify the right talent for the team, groom their skills and build
an efficient team. Apart from this, I also work as a visiting faculty of fluid mechanics at coaching
centre and as a Football coach. This makes me a natural team player, leader, learner, adaptable
to different environments and tremendously competitive.
Despite good technical knowledge, I’ve always felt a dearth of sound business acumen. The
experienced faculty of NMIMS would bring me a whole new range of knowledge from their
respective fields and help me to understand corporate scenario better. Pedagogy of NMINS is
mostly case study based in line with the current market practices and management methods which
would provide me with a chance to test out different fields and give optimum exposure. NMpremier

Banaskantha which falls under NVS (Navoadya Vidyalaya Samiti), the biggest network of schools
in India. During school time, I got the opportunity to show my hard work as I was transferred to

A tree, to me, is very symbolic. Its roots symbolize values, its stem, character and its leaves
change. Raisedin a humble business family, I did my schooling from ICSE board, which has a
syllabus of global education standards. Featuring in the top 10 rank holders list, and participating in
sport and annual functions,Imanaged to balance co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in
school. As the cultural minister of school cabinet 2009-10, I played a significant role in executing
the talent day programme and have led the school paradeon Republic Day.
My efforts paid off when I could secure an admission in Nirma University and graduated in
chemical engineering. As the technical head of RCNI (Rotaract Club of Nirma Institutes), I played a
key roleinorganizing various socio-cultural events, through which I could learn to manage time,
resources and talent. In RCNI, I engaged myself in photography, logistics and hospitality which
made me a versatile team-player. In college, I have experienced some grievous setbacks due to
momentary lapse of judgement and hard luck thatcaused depression and could have proved
harmful to my future. But I conditioned myself to be positiveandemerged a stronger person.
I am determined to achieve a good career by pursuing MBA in operations. At NMIMS Hyderabad, I
seemyself taking up a challenging role in one of the committees to hone my skills which were
developed in me through RCNI. I look forward to networking through peers, internships and faculty,

Discipline is the cornerstone for success in any given field. From a very young age, discipline was
imbibedin me because of my Karate training; I have practiced Karate for 13 years and hold an
International level 1st Degree Black Belt. The discipline instilled in me has helped me secure 90
plus percentages in my board examinations. I have also managed to maintain a CPI of 8.56 (till 6th
semester) in my chemical engineering under graduation, and I currently stand 3rd in my college and
14th in my university. Karate has also made me health conscious. I was an active athlete during my
school days and have won several medals in track and field events alike. I used to be introvert and
shy, but it was my Karate training that helped me come out of my shell and gave me greater
confidence about myself.
It was after I got admission into one of the oldest engineering colleges of Gujarat, L.D.College of
Engineering, Ahmedabad, that I started attending various quiz competitions. I wanted to start the
culture of quizzing in my college and subsequently, l Co-founded the official quiz club of my college,
Mind Palace, in the year2013. Since then, this club has conducted quizzing events at the Gujarat
Technological University-Techfest in 2014 and 2015, drawing more than 1000 people each year. I
was the Event Coordinator on both the occasions. It was when I was running this club, that I
developed an interest towards pursuing a career in management. I got a glimpse into the financial,
marketing and operational aspects of running an organization, even though it was on a much
smaller and a raw stage. This made me curious as to learn more about manageme nt and the
working of the modern day corporate setup.
Getting a MBA degree from a top B-school like NMIMS seemed like a right step in order to realize
my dream of working in a corporate. NMIMS will not only give me managerial skills but also

I come from a middle class family which has upheld the value of hardwork and perseverance. My
father’s work took us to different locations giving me exposure to different cultures and regions at
an early age. Staying away from my family for study purposes I understand the importance of
decision making and planning ahead.
I am pursuing BTech in Chemical Engineering from Institute of Technology, Nirma University. I have
participated in various technical and cultural festivals, in the process interacting with various
people. The various roles within the college as part of a club have given me various opportunities
and situations to learn leadership and organizational skills. My keen interest in new technologies
drove me to take up projects on new topics such as shale gas and energy savings in distillation
column wherein I researched on the viability of both techniques in real life industrial operations.
The adaptive nature of my research helped me secure 2nd place in Chemology in Nu Tech 2017, a
state-level fest.
The finance field with its ever-changing nature has intrigued from the day I started studying the
subject of Banking and Finance. The ability to identify various prospects which can return the
investment has always intrigued me. The hardwork, research and persistence required in the
process only attracts me . An MBA will provide me the theoretical understanding and experience
of real business situations and thus prepare me for a career in finance.
Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies provides a wide range of projects and
opportunities to experience such situations. Being associated with major international universities,
companies allows for a global perspective. The disciplined and rigorous schedule of NMIMS will

An Electronics and Communication engineer from Nirma University, Ahmedabad, my journey has
been a plethora of experiences which instilled in me the importance of discipline and time
management. I have been a consistent academic performer throughout my academic life. Having
pursued Bharatnatyam for eight years and completing my Arangetram, I learnt that the tree of
hard work and perseverance always bears sweet fruits. With a keen interest in honing my
leadership and diplomacy skills, I actively took part in many Model United Nation conferences
during my graduation participating in capacities of both as a delegate and member of the
Executive Board. My rich experience of MUN’s as well as keenness for executing well planed
events, lead me to organize a MUN in The Golden city, Jodhpur.
Throughout my academic journey, I have strived to develop my interpersonal skills, to
seizeeveryopportunity to interact with multitude of individuals from different walks of life. This has
helped me develop an acute judgment of the human behavior, and developed me in getting my way
through multiple situations. Serving as the General Secretary of Indian Society for Technical
Education (ISTE), Students Chapter Nirma University, my portfolio was handling the publicity of
various events happening on campus as well as sponsor branding. The exposure to these activities
has helped me understand some nuances of marketing. However, upon reflection, I believe that a
formal education and structured knowledge of these would make my foundations stronger and help
me move up the corporate ladder.
NMIMS, with its case study based pedagogy will help me accumulate the minor details in the
practicalities of various situations, further developing a sound understanding of the theories. With
the added advantage of being situated in the financial capital of the country, I see a wide horizon
of opportunities for me.
Moreover, the provisions to undertake research under the reputed faculties will help me to work
closely with them, and further enhance my learning of the subject.

Being from an education-cum-business focused family, the focus on education in my life has
always been more which is evident from my SSC and HSC marks. The fact that I made among the
top 1% of students in my state in SSC also goes further to show my dedication for competition,
albeit healthy. My mother’s interest in reading fiction was passed along to me at an early age which
on continuing till date has also made writing to take a majority of share in my recreational time after
reading, of course. Apart from these, having a family business and also spending a good deal of
my evenings there, especially in the inventory section, a good knowledge of inventory management
and pricing of the products has been instilled in me.

I, being an engineer, having a long term entrepreneurial aim, have a short term goal of working in a
National/Multinational Corporation as a manager, which can teach me nuances and details of doing
and managing business, especially on the marketing side. On a long term basis, I see myself as an
entrepreneur in e-commerce or related field which owes much of its business to marketing. My
involvement in mostofmy college functions’ marketing and sponsorship teams, also as a leader at
times, shows my immense interest and a basic level experience in marketing.
Being an MBA will help me in a lot of ways to achieve what I am aiming to. The managerial skills,
needless to say, that are required can only be gained from an MBA. Apart from this, the knowledge
and exposure that a 2 year MBA program will offer to me will push me towards what I really want to
be. Also, in today’s scenario where world is going smaller and flatter, to survive in the corporate
world from the global competition an MBA will really give me a head start as a fresher. As my
ultimate goal is being an entrepreneur I really want to know all the ins and outs of all the sections of
any business and hence an MBA will help me.
NMIMS’ intensive focus on being industry oriented and on the practical applicability of concepts
along with the theoretical knowledge is the first thing that attracts me to the institute. Secondly, I
believe a vibrant campus is very important for an MBA course, the quality which this institute has.
Umpteen number of international university tie-ups which NMIMS has will give me an added
advantage owing to the resultant global exposure. The cherry on the cake is the impeccable
placement record which truly help me to get a head start over my fellow peers.

It often happens that the best of our competencies emerge when we challenge ourselves, which
was the reason that I topped consistently through school, and came first in my city in 10th boards.

profile of Digital and Youth marketing. I was awarded first prize in the CCD campaign, for
successfully organizing promotional activities at over 15+ CCD outlets in Ahmedabad, leading a
team of over 30 people. I have read over 100 books, and it has imbibed the values of perseverance
and patience. Remarkable books like 1984 and the Fountainhead have opened doors to new
perspectives of the world around me.

Coming from a business family, and being brought up in a state that is renowned for its business
acumen, I have an inane sense of commercial engagements, but there are certain understanding
gaps, which often strike as difficulties in my parents’ businesses. The knowledge gained by
pursuing an MBA will fill these gaps, and professionalize my skills to work in a position of
responsibilityof a growing organization. In the long-run I would use my experience to contribute to
the society, and bring reforms in the education practices, especially in the underdeveloped
communities. Experience gained in the corporate sector would enable me to attain financial
freedom, which will allow experimentation in the education sector.
Pursuing an MBA from a premium institute like NMIMS will help me gain a wholesome view of
business frameworks, and pave the way to my future. It’s eminent alumni network, expert faculty
and interactive programs will broaden my strategic vision, and prepare me to put my knowledge to

True to this quote, my most distinguishing characteristic is the diversity of experiences that I have
had. My father’s transferable job enabled me to travel to various places and imbibe different
cultures. My family values encouraged me to read and excel academically since childhood. I stood
second in my school in class tenth CBSE board examination and was amongst the top 10%
throughout my school life. I’m an articulate person and love debating. I represented Gujarat at
National Outlook Debate Competition in Delhi (2010)and was adjudged best delegate at DPS MUN

University. I am a consistent performer and currently working on a project aimedat using dye
wastewater to produce electricity. I am a voracious reader and write poetry and travelogues. Iwas
Editor-in-chief of Chemical Engineering Students Association and led my team to
publishtheannualmagazine “Synergy”.
I am inspired by the idea of giving back to the society and took up voluntary teaching at an NGO
“Make a Difference”, teaching underprivileged girls English at an orphanage-which nurtured my
leadership skillsand instilled perseverance. I believe that technical education is imperative for
laying a groundwork for higher education and pursuing MBA would further enhance my techno
commercial ability y and provide an insight into functioning of an organization. It will provide
opportunities to practice problem solving, effective decision making and gain a holistic view of
business. I’m fascinated by brands and would like to take up marketing. I aim to work with an

I am an undergraduate in Electrical Engineering from Nirma University. My keen interest from an

early age in how money works around the world has created in me the desire to become a
successful entre preneur. This same interest also led me to explore simple ideas that could be
transformed into businesses duringmy college days. Along with my team, I started work on two
ideas that we named ‘Koshish’ and ‘Gyan Mitran’. Koshish was an effort to use technology to solve
the problem of rush and undesired delay in food service in canteens. We conducted market
surveys to understand the exact nature of this problem. Gyan Mitran was an effort to enable easy
and economical access to textbooks for students of all eight semesters of all branches. While the
ideas were well planned, implementing them seemed a challenge. Our lack of business and
management knowledge made it difficult for us to understand the various aspects that come into
play in the setting up of a business and its successful running.
.
On other fronts, I have participated and won in several competitions. I have also been actively
rendering community service – I was awarded the silver medal for collecting the second highest
funds for the welfare of cancer patients.

I seek management education to fulfil my long-standing dream of becoming a successful

entrepreneur. An MBA will teach me the roles played by each vertical and how they function in an
integrated manner.

awholesome view of the nuances of business administration; all of which I wish to further utilise to
bolster my long term goal of setting up my own company. An MBA will also help me polish the skills
that I possess and developthe ones I lack, transforming me into a person fit for working in
managerial positions. Working closely in teams, giving presentations as well as the skills of
negotiation and people management that I acquire during my MBA degree will all contribute to
shaping me to tackle real-life situations during the course of my career, thus making me ready to
make my own mark in the corporate world.
The practice of prescribing a common curriculum to all students during the first three trimesters
followedat NMIMS, will help me gain knowledge of a variety of fields, thus aiding my holistic
development. The geographical location of NMIMS in the financial capital of the country; apart from
the frequent guestlectures by distinguished industry experts and the plethora of internship
opportunities as well as the Semester Exchange programmes that NMIMS has to offer, makes it the
perfect choice of an MBA college for me.

Fresher: Computer Engineering.

I was brought up in a family where it was hard to make the ends meet. However, these hardships
did not affect me much. I have been a constant performer in sports activities, quizzing events and
academics. I was awarded the Grand Master title in Mental Arithmetic by Aloha for my
accomplishments in the course.
Currently in my final year of Computer Engineering at L.D College of Engineering, my areas of interest
include Website Development. I am the recipient of Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme by Government
of Gujarat.
I developed interest in management when the management subject, Human Resources was
taught during the third semester. I found myself inclined mainly to Human Resource-Planning. To
gain an insight into and have practical experience of this subject, I joined as an HR intern in Walk
for Water (in partnership with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports). I recruited and managed
coordinators to work and organize events in different districts of Gujarat to promote the concept of
water management. I was awarded a Letter of Recommendation for my work in the internship.
An MBA in Human resources from NMIMS would be an effective way to pursue my goal of working
in an HR capacity with a multinational company. This study would eventually pave the way to my
long-term goal of working as a Chief Human Resource Officer of a reputed organization.
NMIMS is one of the most reputed business schools in India. Its location in the financial capital of
the country provides the advantage of exposure to various industries. NMIMS has a global
environment with linkage with various foreign universities and student exchange programs that
provide global exposure to students. The case-study based curriculum is also one of its kind.

Born and brought up in Surat - one the fastest developing city of India, I am always inspired by the
simplicity that the people here have in them irrespective of their successful career. I have an
excellent school record with a 2nd rank in 11th std., for which I was even awarded a scholarship, and
a 1st rank in 12th std. I am currently pursuing B. Tech in Computer Engineering from Nirma
University. My father has a textile businessandmother is a home-maker. I have served as a Club
Director of RCNI i.e. Rotaract Club of Nirma Institutes, a socio- cultural club, for the year
2013-2014. In my leisure time I like to watch documentaries read non-fictionbooks covering genres
like success stories, biographies and understanding India.
A bachelor's degrees in Computer Engineering has enhanced my logical and analytical skills that
are vital for a career in Business Management. I believe that with Business Management, I will be
able to deal with a larger scheme of things that a B. Tech in CE may not provide. Instead of
working as a Software Developer, I can work as a Project Manager that will provide me a broader
perspective of the intricacies involved in the management field. Apart from this I will also be able to
develop skills such as: building a strong reputation, collaborating successfully, building a strong
network, communicating effectively and understandingbusiness environment from different
perspectives.
NMIMS is one of the premier B Schools in India and with its vision to define 21st century
Management, it is an ideal institute to pursue and MBA. The institute is known to provide overseas
summer internshipsinsome of the leading universities in the world. Apart from this the faculties are

subtleties required to pursue a career in Business Management.
Fresher: Information Technology Engineering.

I have always believed that growth and evolution are never-ending and have been
workingtoimprovemyself all my life. When I moved to Mumbai from Assam at the age of 6, I didn’t
know one word of English - one of my teachers gave me the book of Little Red Riding. Since then, I
have barely gone a day without reading- be it a book or a newspaper. I owe a lot of things in my life
to my habit of reading - my stint as a freelancing content developer and my communication skills
included. While pursuing Bachelor of Technology degreein Information Technology from Nirma
University, I have held many positions of responsibility invariouscollege clubs. I have also been the
editor of a popular college magazine named and have also assumed the role of the Curator of
TedX, Nirma University for two consecutive years.

My primary objective in the near future is to acquire managerial skills and develop a personality
thatwillhelp me get ready to excel in the corporate world. I want to work in the corporate sector and
gain the necessary experience and skills that will help me further my ultimate goal of setting up my
own entrepreneurship venture aimed at educating the underprivileged children of tire 2 cities.

An MBA degree is a stepping stone in my vision of being a leader and decision-maker. It will help
me hone my skills and bridge the gap between my present skill set and that required to run and
manage a company. In a society where women CEOs are a scarcity, I wish to make a mark as my
own person and inspire several other women to do the same.

In my opinion, the niche learning experience that NMIMS offers is best change word to support
andperfectly, with its change word alumni network as well as its unique case-study based teaching
methodology. The frequent guest lectures by industry experts and eminent gurus, along with the
active and vibrant campus activities at NMIMS will act as the best propellant to all my goals.

Fresher: Information Technology Engineering.

I did my schooling in Ahmedabad and studied for a year in a convent boarding school. Boarding
school made me disciplined, sincere and adaptable. I have been academically consistent
throughout school. As Prefectof my house in Primary School and the House Captain in Higher
Secondary School, I learnt leadership skills. Getting trained in Bharatanatyam for 4 years and
playing the synthesizer for 6 years enhanced myconfidence. I am currently in my final semester of
Engineering (Information Technology). I was part of the Rotaract Club of Nirma Institute as
Creative Head for the club. This helped me pursue my creative interests and honed my group
working skills.
In the long run, I intend to launch my own cosmetic brand. The engineer in me wants to create
beauty products. This will require me to do extensive market research, study about the industry in
detail, analyze competition, and create a profitable business model. This is the primary reason I
want to do apost-graduation
in Business Administration. Doing an MBA will help me gather knowledge about various sectors
andhowthe business works. It will also help me acquire various managerial skills which will be
professionally beneficial.
Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies is situated in Mumbai. Most organizations have
their head offices in Mumbai which opens up many corporate opportunities. Also, Mumbai with its
mélange of people, will give me exposure to various cultures. NMIMS follows a case study based
pedagogy, which will improve my decision- making skills. The summer internship where I will gain a
lot of practical knowledge will confirm my interest. NMIMS also has a vast alumni network which
can be leveraged to gain knowledgeaboutdifferent industries. Other attractions are the various
seminars, workshops and guest lectures conducted by industry professionals. Thus, I believe that
NMIMS is best equipped to help me achieve all my objectives.
Fresher: Information Technology Engineering.

Having both of my parents involved in the field of education, importance of the same is ingrained
inmesince my formative years. Being a house prefect and topper at school highlights my academic
excellence. Ranked at 27th position out of 4772 students reflects my consistent performance in my
bachelor's degree as well. I am currently in final year of obtaining bachelor's degree in engineering
(Information Technology) from LD College of Engineering. Organising college fests helped me gain
first-hand experience on managementand honed my leadership skills. Having effective
communication skills, helped me raise handsome sponsorships for cultural fests. I was a research
assistant for a project by Sessame Street, USA. I was awarded an elite certificate in the course of
decision modelling by IIT Kharagpur. Teaching, which initially began as an aid to my mother has
now turned into a hobby. It has turned me into a good listener and helped me manage my time
well. On personal front, it has induced patience and empathetic behaviour in me.

I firmly believe that people are the biggest resources in an organization. Four years into teaching, I
have learned that being a guide to someone can bring enormous changes over the years. The two
principlesIhave always stood by are hard work and discipline. An MBA in HR will incorporate my
qualities with required industrial knowledge thus preparing me for undertaking a team and its
responsibilities.
NMIMS' case study based curriculum supported by student centric approach resonate with my
desiretolearn and grow. A general management curriculum followed in first year teaches various
aspects of management. NMIMS' live projects and workshops will help me gain insight into
industrial environment. Thus, I believe NMIMS with it’s a strong industrial network and diverse
student culture is best equipped to help me achieve my objectives.
Fresher: Automobile Engineering.

My undergraduate program in Automobile Engineering has given me a strong technical footing.

Afterhaving gained adequate technical knowledge, now I look forward to learning about the
managerial sector in this industry. I see myself working at executive and managerial positions in
this industry. My innateabilitytolead, manage and communicate effectively has empowered me take
such informed decision.
My undergraduate studies also brought me various enriching academic and non-academic
experiences. During 8th semester, my classmates and I made a tricycle on our own. We created a
tadpole type of Trike, which was combination of two designs. Our tricycle performed smoothly and
we secured 5th place at an inter-college competition. We earned a lot of plaudits from the
professors. The major experience ofworking on this project helped me learn about various aspects
both technical and practical and developed new skills. Besides academics, I actively involved
myself in various extra-curricular and co-curricular activitiesorganized in college. Specifically, I had
always been at the forefront of activities organized by Automobile Department and I was leader in
the management team in ‘Technical festival’ two years in a row.
NMIMS with a well-connected alumni base and located at the heart of the financial capital of India
offers a great opportunity to help me gain an overall understanding of the various aspects of
management. The case study approach followed by the college will help me gain a practical insight
into the functioning of the corporate. The challenging curriculum will provide a thorough
understanding of all important management concepts and help me choose my specialization. The
mentorship programme and personality development
workshops along with guidance from best faculty, industry experts and batch mates from diverse
backgrounds will be a great learning resource for the future and the experience will be invaluable.

oneself and never to settle for something less than what you deserve.

Responsibility shouldered:

Professional: During the university cultural fest Horizon’13, being an organising committee
member, several flagship events were handed to me and I was given full authority right from the
planning, marketing to the execution of these events.

– be it through blanket / winter cloth distribution or similar other activities.

Your formative years.

School life was easy and at least academically, I was extremely consistent hence there wasn’t any
pressure to perform. As I come from a vernacular medium, I was faceda lot of hiccups initially
during the first year of my BTech. I found it difficult to catch up with other students. I retorted to
aggressive reading, loud reading and other English building techniques and now I am in a position
to claim I have cracked nearly all entrance exams that have English as a backbone. I strongly feel
there isn’t a substitute to hard work and that perseverance always pays.

Were you part of a team where the intended outcome either failed or exceeded
expectations? What was your role?

Our performance in the coding event during National level techno management Symposium 2013
was where we performed way beyond expectations. The event was first of its kind – a six hour
long marathon coding competition. We were competing with top coders of the country – be it from
the IITs / NITs. We coded hard and eventually won the competition with 400 out of 700 points
where as the runners up were at 200 points.

If failed, what were your learnings? If exceeded what was your special contribution?

Our decision to select C as programming language was the ultimate factor. There were options
like: python, java to code. But, the complex structure of these programming languages made the
execution speed less and C language’s simplicity and proximity to machine language helped us to
execute faster. So, I took decisions of selection of tools and designed algorithms. My partner was
supposed to prepare data structures and test the modules. Task of coding was divided equally.
There were other softer learnings on work distribution / team skills etc.
Have you faced Ethical Dilemma?

Not a major ethical dilemma till date.

Have you been in a situation where you have brought about any improvements in yourself,
your work or the society?

I believe the Earthquake happened on 26th January, 2001 put the base of my perspective towards
life. One month before that, we had paid our house loan completely and in the next month itself, we
lost our home. The subsequent pressure on my parents made me naturally more responsible,
sensitive and closer to family. I became completely dedicated towards studies. The first reaction of
my hard work was in the coming year, when I worked really hard and secured first rank out of 500
applicants in the admission test of Sheth CN Vidyalaya – one of the most prominent schools of
Gujarat. From that year, I have never compromised with my dedications and have always tried to
achieve whatever that is expected from me.

Sample 3:

Programme Details: Marketing

Mention your interest:

While studying at Nirma University, I got immense opportunities to be a part of various student
activities on campus. Being the Managing Director of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE)
Students’ Chapter, Nirma University, gave me a good exposure in general management. I have
managed and organise d various events over the years. This created a keen interest in me for
pursuing management and especially in marketing and I think marketing profile will suit me well.

Adversity Faced in Life

Family: One month before my class 12 board exams, marriage of my sister was scheduled and could not
be postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. My family was highly tensed about my academic
performance. Though I wanted to help out, they would not let me and took the entire burden on
themselves.

Personal: In my early school days, I used to face difficulties in making friends due to my
aggressive nature. Eventually I realized what I was missing out on and made a conscious effort to
change. After persistent efforts, I succeeded and actually became a calm, cheerful and friendly
person.

Responsibility Shouldered

Family: When I was 20 years old, my aunt was hospitalised for cancer treatment, my uncle needed
support. Since my family members were not always available, I was responsible for handling the
hospital errands.
The entire year I juggled between my responsibilities and academics. The entire experience left
me emotionally strengthened.

Professional: As the Managing Director of ISTE Students Chapter, I had various organizational
responsibilities. In I-Fest 2013, I was in charge of campaigning team. Planning an effective
publicity schedule, considering all the geographical and timing constraints, involved formulating
strategies and making dynamic decisions. This improved my managerial skills.
Sample 4:

Write 5 statements (Not more than 30 words each) to describe unique qualities about you (e.g.
accomplishments, versatilities, academics, major experiences, family background etc.) to
support your application.
● Represented as the managing director of ISTE Students’ chapter IT-NU. Core committee
member of I-Fest’13, a national level techno cultural symposium with more than 2000
participants
● Event organizer of NU-Tech’13, national level techno-management symposium of Nirma
University
● Coursera certification for the course of ‘critical thinking in global challenges’ by University
of Edinburgh, UK. Certificate of excellence for a short term course study in sustainable
development by Rio+20 India program
● In the Macmillan International assessment for Indian schools, I was among the top
5% in Mathematics and top 10% in Computer Skills in class 9 and top 8% in
Mathematics in class 8
● Consistent academic performance in 10th, 12th and graduation with distinction

Contribution to society

● Distribution of sweets and clothes during Diwali to all the labourers of our industry by the
family members
● Providing lunch to all the under-privileged children living in the nearby industrial area
by our industry once every four months
● Distribution of woollen clothes and blankets to the needy in slum areas during winter
● Tutoring the children of house maid and the society sweepers as and when required

Formative years

The formative years of my life were mainly during my college years. I was able to get a good
exposure to various students of different cultures, learning and experience them. Also active
participation in various student activities helped me to discover myself about my skills and also
experienced many things which is necessary outside the classroom. Staying away from home
helped me to experience the outside world, and learnt to be a responsible citizen of the nation.

Part of a team where the intended outcome failed

During I-Fest’13, we had organized 3D-Mapping and Laser Show in the campus, which was first of its
kind in Gujarat. We expected a foot fall of 2500 people but were short by 500 and only 2000 people
came. The
entire team tried hard to increase the number of people but we couldn’t. My role was mainly in the
marketing of the event.

What I learnt from the failure?

As per university standards, we were not supposed to charge the people for the show. We had
distributed many passes, but since it was free of cost many people opted out from coming to
campus as they had no loss for it. What I learnt is that we should have kept some nominal fees for
the same and should have donated the collected amount to some NGO. By doing so not only we
would have followed the university standards but also the people who have paid for the show
would have come as they were already charged, thereby increasing our footfall.

Ethical Dilemma

I have faced an ethical dilemma during my exam days. One of my friends was weak in studies, and
it was his last chance to pass the course or else he would have been drooped out by the university
from the graduation course. Ethically what I did was wrong but his family could not afford another
formal education for him from the scratch. Considering the practicality of the situation I had to help
him.
Improvements in yourself/work/society

When I joined ISTE in my 1st year of graduation, there were many areas in which I found
improvement can be done. For students to be a member of the organization, they have to fill up
the membership form. The
forms were available with other member students or at our canteen desk. But many a time’s forms
are not available when needed, so we developed an online system in which they can fill up the
form using their university login id. It created an ease of access for the students to become a
member and also for us to maintain the database.

Macau, China; extreme Quad biking in Mauritius; paragliding in Manali etc.
Distinct contributions to society by you or your family members:

I’ve been a regular blood donor and have donated blood more than 10 times. My parents and
grandparents have always been involved in charity and social services. My father is a paediatrician
and has offered his honorary services at Tirupati trust hospital for 10 years. He also provides
education fees for all the children of his hospital staff members. My mother has donated tricycles at
‘Apang Manav Mandal’. My grandparents regularly donate for tiffin services of Civil hospital
patients. They have also provided sewing machines to some of the poor families. I have
accompanied them many times for distribution of household items and food packets in slum areas.
Being a patient of lung cancer herself, my grandmother used to donate regularly for the medical
expenses of poor cancer patients’ families. My family has also provided free school bags,
lunch-boxes and stationery kits to the poor students in Municipal schools.
Your formative years.

My higher secondary school years as well as my early college years have been my major formative
years. These were the years when my personality and attitude started taking a new dimension and
getting transformed into a more mature, responsible and passionate one. I became more ambitious
and optimistic. Having dependable friends taught me the importance of sharing and thinking
beyond oneself. I understood the importance of hard work and thrived to deliver my best. It was in
these years when I realized what level of fierce competition one has to face in every domain of life
to thrive and fit in the society where we believe in survival of the fittest. The values, culture, ethics
and principles that I imbibed from my family during these years as well as the learnings from my
surroundings played a significant role in making me who I am today.

Were you part of a team where the intended outcome either failed or exceeded
expectations? What was your role?
When I was in my 2nd year of MBBS, I along with some of my friends decided to attend the
national socio-cultural and sports festival ‘Pulse 2010’ held at AIIMS, Delhi. We thought of
performing something as a team but didn’t have enough time to prepare anything. I came up
with an idea of performing a drama in a cultural event there since we were a group of 15 friends.
The idea I had in mind was to perform a comedy -drama with events of Ramayana in the mod ern
era, bringing in the CID team from the famous TV series. Everybody agreed and we worked
everything out aggressively in a very short time. We were still not sure i f we could actually do
well. However, we gave a fantastic performance in front of a huge c rowd and won applause from
them. We also won a prize for the same.

Distinct contributions to society by you or your family members:

I was the one who came up with the idea of performing a drama and convinced everyone that we
could do i t in the short time w e had. With the help of some of my friends, I prepared a script and
assigned roles to everyone. I organised our meetings where we would come together to practice
and make necessary changes in our drama before leaving for Delhi. Even on the previous day of
the event, some of the team members were skeptical that we might make a fool of ourselves i f
we couldn’t perform well. I tried to boost their morale and encouraged everyone. We practiced for
3 hours continuously that night. The next day, we really put up a n incredible show in a jam-
packed auditorium with more than thousand students and exceeded everyone’s expectations. We
were applauded and congratulated by everyone and also won a prize for the same.

Ethical Dilemma

Last year, my 81- year old grandmother was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of lung. She was
having severe cough and her condition was deteriorating day by day. In the first week of
December, she started getting breathless even at rest. At that time, our oncophysician opined
that her condition was serious and she should be put on ventilator and for pleural effusion, he
suggested pleurodesis. Being near relatives and doctors of the family, my father and I faced an
ethical dilemma. The reason was that such invasive treatment modalities could only extend her l i
fe-span by a few weeks while causing her a lot of pain and agony. Since her condition was
incurable, with a consensus of other family members and my grandmother herself, we decided
to continue with non-invasive medical treatment only so that she could spend her last few days
peacefully amidst the family members.

Have you been in a situation where you have brought about any improvements in
yourself, your work or the society?

During my 2nd Year MBBS, I used to devote my spare time to teaching underprivileged
handicapped children in a special school named 'Vikalang Punarvas Kendra'. For this I had to
travel to Uvarsad, a village located near Gandhinagar. Some of my friends and I visited the school
every week on Saturdays and taught different subjects to the students of standards 4 to 10. We
tirelessly worked for the benefit of these differently abled children. We continued this effort for a
period of six months. To be part of such a selfless endeavour gave me an immense sense of
satisfaction and joy. It was truly an enriching experience and it gave me an opportunity to give
something back to the society. It is my sincere belief that this episode in my life has brought about
significant improvements in my personality and made me a more socially aware and responsible
citizen.

Sample 6:

Write 5 statements ( Not more than 30 words each) to describe unique qualities about you (

have been funding the education of a girl child through an NGO soon after I started
working. I wish to do the same on a larger scale in the future when I have sufficient
resources and infrastructure.
● Integrity is reflected in the uprightness with which I perform all the duties given to me. I

Distinct contributions to the society by you or your family members.

● My mother takes tuition for the children of some of the maids working in the society who
cannot afford any extra help beyond school.
● I have been funding the education of a girl child through an NGO since I started working.
I donate some amount every month towards her school expenses.

Your Formative Years.

I have been very fortunate to have wonderful people in my life who have moulded me so well.
The most important among them are my parents. Even though I am a single child, I was never
pampered or spoilt. They have imbibed in me strong values and morals. My father has been
posted at different cities since the year 2001 but he has always insisted on keeping my mother
and me in Ahmedabad so that my studies did not get affected. I will always be indebted to my
parents for this sacrifice they made for my education.

My friends and colleagues have been instrumental in shaping my character. It is from them that I
have learnt the lessons of team-work, sharing, being adaptive and accepting others viewpoints,
decision making.

Were you part of a team where the intended outcome either failed or exceeded
expectations? What was your role?

While working on a project in L&T Construction for Tata Steel, there was an issue where the client
made some changes in the specification of an instrument during the detailed engineering phase
because of which the price quoted for the instrument cost Rs. 2 Lakh more than what was quoted
during tender stage. Since this meant a loss for L&T, we tried to convince the customer that the
previously quoted instrument would work as well in the changed specification and this led to the
delay in project for about 2 months. I help ed my team in gathering supporting evidence from other
projects and also co-ordinated with various vendors to obtain information on the instrument and
references of previous jobs executed with the same instrument. Though it caused a delay of 2
months, the client accepted our explanation and went ahead with our proposal.
Did you contribute to the process or outcome?

Yes

If failed, what were your learnings? If exceeded expectations, what was your specific contribution?

From the experience I learnt that if we are confident about something being right, we should stick
to that and not buckle under pressure. We should take the pains of gathering all information that
supports our claim and try to convince them.
Have you faced an ethical dilemma?

No

Have you been in a situation where you have brought about any improvements in yourself,
your work or the society?

I think self-improvement is a continuous process. We can bring improvement in our character by

imbibing the good qualities that we see in people around us. While working, I helped my juniors
with their queries, explaining them about the client, how to make some particular documents
relevant to the project over and above my daily responsibilities.

Sample 6:

Describe yourself as seen by your parents/siblings, teachers, friends, colleagues & superiors in 5
distinct statements (not more than 30 words each).

● My parents and sibling view me as a particularly sincere and honest person, who is not
quite careful about her health.
● My teachers see me as someone who is very regular and understands concepts to the core.
● My friends see me as someone who is genuinely concerned about and goes out of the
way to help people. They also find me too voluble.
● My colleagues appreciate my strong work ethics, flexibility and responsibility.
● My superiors consider me to be an extremely curious, enthusiastic and responsible subordinate.

Your Formative Years.

Until I finished schooling, I had a very idealistic and stubborn view of the world. Life after school
was a revelation. I pursued Chartered Accountancy along with graduation. The phase of pursuing
IPCC was a like being shaken awake from the sense of entitlement that had taken root. I was
fortunate enough to have seniors who helped me realise that pursuing a professional course is not
an excuse for poor participation in college. The amount of work I did and the time I spent during
peak seasons in Articleship – up to fifteen hours a day was made me appreciate the importance of
work ethics and the challenging nature of a professional’s career. Articleship exposed me to office
politics and I was forced to grow out of my naivety. Simultaneously managing college, work and
studies familiarised me with working under constant pressure.

Were you part of a team where the intended outcome either failed or exceeded
expectations? What was your role? (150)

Articleship gave me ample opportunities to lead a team. I was required to lead teams of junior
articles while doing audits at governmental organisations such as Ahmedabad Municipal
Corporation, A hmedabad Urban Development Authority, etc. While the work flow was always on
the higher side at such positions, it would immensely intensify during two peak times – financial
year end and pre Diwali month. There would be several issues that had to be addressed – clearing
all the bills on time, maintaining accuracy even in the face of work overflow and proper
documentation of work. The first time I was asked to lead a team during the peak hours, I was
delegated three juniors. With extreme effort, we succeede d in finishing the reporting well within
time.
Did you contribute to the process or the outcome?
Yes.

What were your learnings from this experience? (150)

The team faced plenty of pressure from contractors – to go easy on several areas that formed an
important part of the audit, to requests to remove qualifications from the reports etc. Because we
did not yield to these pressures and also because of the thoroughness of our audit, we received
appreciation from superiors and earned the respect of the officials as well as the contractors. We
understood is worth doing is worth doing well. Furthermore, the team also understood that
independence of auditors is not a textbook concept – it is the very basis for credibility of the entire
profession and therefore, as the representatives of the profession, it behoves us to execute our
work in an independent manner. Furthermore, as much routine and tedious documentation
appears, it is a very practical tool to efficiently manage huge assignments.

Have you been in a si tuation where you have brought about any improvements in
yourself?

I was born in Bikaner and later brought up in Ahmedabad. As my family shifted to Gujarat from
Rajasthan, the mode of instruction in school switched from Hindi to English. The transition was
tremendously difficult and was not aided by the fact that I had to pick up another language –
Gujarati, as well. With the support of my parents and teachers and extreme hard work on my part, I
was able to adapt to the change and become fluent – both in English and Gujarati and went on to
become a topper throughout the school.

Describe yourself as seen by your parents/siblings, teachers, friends, colleagues & superiors in 5
distinct statements

1. Parents/siblings

For my parents I am a childish, forgetful and immature yet responsible kid. They have taken
great pride in my academic success and my accomplishment as a classical dancer.

2. Brother

For my brother I am his first choice to pick up a fight with. He sees me as the one whom he
could express his desires to be put in front of our father. He considers me as his go to person in
difficult times.

3. Teachers

I was awarded the title “the one who would burn midnight oil to reach the top” for consistently
being among the toppers throughout my academic career. They remember me as a fine classical
dancer.

4. Friends

My friends describe me as a youthful and a cheerful personality who wouldn’t miss out on a
opportunity to play pranks on others. They see me as a one who is always approachable during
difficult times.

5. Colleagues

My colleagues and my superior consider me as the one on whom they could pile loads of work
and yet expect the desired output. They would also have my work reviewed because of my
impatient and forgetful nature which makes me prone to committing many mistakes.

Your Formative Years.

My parents have believed in the notion that success owes to hard work. Wanting to teach me this
notion in my young days they encouraged me to pursue interest in various activities. With
academics I participated actively in learning classical dance and swimming. Childhood exercises
also gave my body the flexibility that
help me work tirelessly. Thus, I hardly sat idle during my school days. My school taught me to face
the competitive world outside by providing me with a competitive environment to prove my worth. It
also provided me with some rough experiences which shaped me to be a better human.
Experiences with some untrustworthy people taught me not to be too dependent on anyone that
the person could easily mend you according to its will. My family taught me values of giving back
to the community something that has provided me with happiness and confidence.

Mention any distinct contributions made to the community by you or your family members.

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. This is what my family
believes in. My grandfather goes around the slum areas to donate clothes, food items and various
other things to the needy. He has also been working on an initiative to install coolers for the bears
in the zoos near Agra to provide them with a better living environment. Following the tradition I too
was a part of a social initiative NuHope during my college time. This initiative was aimed at
educating municipal school kids in areas of Mathematics mainly. I volunteered for teaching them
basic mathematical concepts starting from counting to solving complex word problems.

Were you part of a team where the intended outcome either failed or exceeded
expectations? What was your role? Did you contribute to the process or the outcome?

I was a part of NEC (National Entrepreneurship Cell), an event organized by IIT-B to encourage
entrepreneurship among the youth which involved performing various tasks in various domains.
One of the tasks was to organize a rally in the college to spread awareness about importance of
water and reduce its wastage. Due to certain unavoidable circumstances some of the members of
our team were unavailable.
Owing to time constraints we had to complete the rally the same day. Thus, I along with my friend
took to handle the entire situation. I kept the event going and the crowd bounded while my friend
gathered more people. Though the outcome wasn’t as desired yet we managed it with some
success.

Apart from organizing the rally I also contributed towards organizing debates, social awareness
campaigns and writing reports. The team secured 11th position nationwide which was something
unexpected and it feels good to know that I was a part of that team.

Have you faced an ethical dilemma?

It was during one of my school days. My school teacher forgot her personal belongings in the
classroom after a class. These belongings also contained question papers for examinations that
were approaching. Some of my friends wanted to have a look of it without the teacher knowing
while I along with my some other friends wanted to return the bag to the teacher. When I revolted
against their idea they accused me of being naive and childish. Not paying heed to any of their
comments I returned the belongings to the teacher. Later that day those friends accused me of
being the spoiler in the group expressing their hatred towards me for the act. I asked them one
question, what good would it do by cheating to their knowledge apart from just bringing good
marks, to which their response was a mere silence. That silence answered my dilemma and made
me realize that I did the right thing then.

Have you been in a situation where you have brought about any improvements in yourself?

Vacations are the time students want to relax. Being at home and sitting idle was something I
wasn’t too fond of and my parents too discouraged it. During these vacations I engaged myself into
learning skills like drawing and dancing. It was during one of these vacations that I found my
interest in Bharatanatyam dance form. It gave me a different perspective to life a new way to
express yourself. It helped me control my muscles in a better way and also improved upon my
ability to work for long hours at a stretch. It also
provided my body with greater flexibility. Making use of this leisure time of vacations helped me
pursue Arangetram in Bharatanatyam and am looking forward to pursue Visharad in the same.
Write 5 statements ( Not more than 30 words each) to describe unique qualities about you ( e.g.
accomplishments, versatilities, academics, major experiences, family background etc.) to
support your application.

● While developing Remarkin.com, I was involved right from conceptualization for integration of
gamification, e-learning and chat to developing platform . Team building, defining roles, execution
and innovation were my responsibilities.
● As the placement coordinator, I helped place 75% of my batch. Right from conducting sessions for
grooming and aptitude tests to the placement day organizations, I handled them all.
● I love reading. I am an eclectic reader and have read a good number of books on business
strategies, biographies, fiction, politics as well as modern Indian history.
● Led 5 peers to two national level short film making competitions where we came 2nd in both of
them. Script writing, direction, editing and managing peer egos were key learning’s.
● As part of NGO Yuva, I worked for the development of underprivileged kids. The key highlight
was my management of a drive by Narcotics Bureau to raise awareness about drugs.
● My grandfather Dr KP Singhal is a physicist whose completed his doctoral thesis on cosmic rays
and black holes in the tutelage of Dr Vikram Sarabhai at PRL, Ahmedabad. He worked at PRL for
some time and then joined Gujarat University as a Professor at the Physics department .First as
a student of pure sciences and then as a professor, he contributed in the development of various
students at
the Gujarat University. My dad is a civil engineer associated with the development of various
landmarks in and around Ahmedabad, the most famous of them being the Vaishnodevi temple and
Savvy Swaraj housing projects. As individuals, they have contributed towards making life more
fulfilling for the society around them. In my own way I have tried to make learning more fun. It is a
new concept and if it takes off, it could definitelyusher in a new era of learning.

Your Formative Years.

My formative years have to be the last year of college and the one year after that .Initially in college I had a
laid back attitude. However in the last year, as I prepared for CAT and then the interviews, I realized how
fierce the competition was .I then gave my best to create an amazing final year project, maintain grades as
well as prepare for CAT. However, in spite of scoring 98.98 percentile in CAT, I could not convert many of the
colleges that I targeted .At the same time my grandfather was duped of all his life savings, which was
meant for our housing loans and medical insurance. With liquidity gone, my father's salary was our only
source of income. My decision not to join TCS and develop an idea based only on a hunch, is the
period that has made me a much stronger person.

Were you part of a team where the intended outcome either failed or exceeded expectations?
What was your role? Did you contribute to the process or the outcome?

When I was first selected in the editorial board of Vox Populi,my college magazine, we planned to
take out two issues in that year thus making it a magazine that comes out every semester. Everyone
in the
team was enthused about it and we started working towards it. We used to brainstorm and come up with
great
ideas. However the ideas remained ideas for a long time as the articles took time to form. Deadlines were
stretched, and things started to unravel. I had to choose either to compromise with the quality and get the
issue on time or else stretch it to the next semester to maintain the quality. Ultimately I choose to
compromise with the quality since it was extremely important for us to be more visible on the campus.
Though the issue was popular and had better circulation, I wasn't really satisfied with my work .
As an editor of Vox Populi, my college magazine, I led a team of 15 members. We had the daunting task
of making every student aware and make them contribute though most were from vernacular
background.
Other challenges included absolving accusation of favouritism, management of funds and overcoming
administrative hurdles. From the experience I learnt that at it isn't always good to have so many ideas
at the same time. I should learn to prioritize as well as delegate tasks to people keeping time lines in mind. I
also realized that even after spending a lot of time behind formulating strategies and plans, nothing can really
compensate for on ground execution.

Have you faced an ethical dilemma?

As the placement coordinator for my batch,I was often confronted with ethical issues at varying
degrees of intensities. The day zero placements for my batch was offered to two companies. Our
college also
had a one company per student rule that was wavered for certain dream companies. We also as a
committee at times had to tell the students to tell a blatant lie if companies asked certain questions like
plans to study in the future etc .Though I knew that the things that were happening were wrong,I
accepted the that they were for the greater good. A lie on our behalf could improve the future of many of
my
classmates. So I never actually did anything about it, rather accepted things as they were and did not
interfere much.
However I made sure that there were no instances of favouritism or inflated grades
during my tenure.

Have you been in a situation where you have brought about any improvements in yourself?

The past one year has made me a more confident individual than before. My failures and work have taught
me that it is always better to fail rather than aim low or worse, do nothing at all. In this period of time, I have
juggled passion, work and studies at the same time .My website Remarkin.com is currently having 7000
active users and we are looking at collaborating with some universities to implement the project as part of
the curriculum .Along with that, I have been associated with Friday Fiction Films as a screenplay and a
scriptwriter. We are currently embarking on an ambitious project of releasing 52 short films in a year
starting from the first Friday of January. The fact that I didn't compromise on my ambitions and took
decisions having confidence on my abilities is something that has made me a better individual than before.
IIM B SOP
Sample 1:

I was born in the UK and relocated to India at the age of 8. I have been a voracious reader since childhood,
which has made me perceptive, imaginative, and rational. I have formally been learning and performing
Bharatanatyam, contemporary and jazz dance forms which have made me agile and thoughtful. The more
flexible I became through my dance forms, the harder I could push my thresholds. Since both of my parents
are surgeons, there has always been a strong emphasis on a value based education. I won the Kushagra
Award for my meritorious performance in higher secondary school. For my graduation, I moved to Pune in
2011 to Symbiosis Centre for Media and Communication. I lived in the student hostel for 3 years away from
the warmth of a home. After initial bouts of home sickness, I saw that my interpersonal communication
skills were greatly improving and I was taking up leadership challenges.

My first stint was as a Finance Head for the inaugural edition of my 5-day intercollegiate festival. This
experience, coupled with that of living by myself, made me accountable and self-assured. The followed five
internships as a part of my curriculum, which also gave ample of initiative opportunities. Today, I feel I am
confident enough to take on unfamiliar situations without being overwhelmed under any circumstance. I
specialized in advertising and then worked for 16 months with Rediffusion Wunderman – a direct marketing
firm in Mumbai. I joined as a Project Executive but 10 months into the job, was awarded a double
promotion, and for the remaining part of my tenure, I worked as a Senior Account Executive, where my
responsibilities expanded to include management of a 12-member team for Rediffusion Wunderman’s
largest client – Audi India. This role made me understand the people side of business and its significance.
At the same time, it dawned in me the need to further my knowledge and skills to face the real-time
challenges of the corporate world. My sense of accountability grew stronger and I learnt to take ownership
for my team’s mistakes as well as proudly give credit where it was due. However, I was not equipped to
take decisions on my own, and was being micro managed owing to my unfamiliarity with formal
management theory; consequently, I was still very far from the decision-making and strategizing part of the
job, which I believe I have the potential for.

To learn the dynamics of the complex business environment and become a proficient manager, a
formalized education in management would be my best bet. IIM B, with its contemporary curriculum with a
focus on experiential and personalized learning through live projects, exposure to real-market scenarios via
simulation of business problems, and guest lectures by industry stalwarts, will surely empower me with a
broader strategic vision in addition to grooming me to be a holistic and well-rounded individual.

Another feature that sets IIM B apart is the diversity in student mix as a stated objective so that
students can tap into each other’s experience to supplement their classroom learning, therebycreating
a truly enriching learning
experience – something I eagerly look forward to. Now with my considerable exposure to how a business
operates, I am in a much better position to take full advantage of the pedagogical tools available to me by
contributing more meaningfully with better insights as well as cultivating deeper understanding of the subject
matter. Most
importantly, I’m certain that the attributes learnt and knowledge gained here will augment various areas of my
personality which will help me in all aspects of my life, not merely the professional sphere.

Sample 2:
“Dream Big, small dream is a crime” As rightfully said by late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam made me more inclined
towards MBA. In spite of being a fresher; completed my bachelor’s and master’s degree in nanotechnology
through an integrated dual degree course in Converging Technologies, I have done few extracurricular short
term internships in renowned institutes of India such as IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, MNIT Jaipur along with
industrial fabrication in SDM Academy which give me a research background edge.
I have completed a thesis on “Enhanced dielectric properties of novel 3-dimensional hollow ZnO
heterostructures” from Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, DRDO, Pune. It was a rich experience as I
learnt the intricacies involved in research and the kinds of demands that it makes. I even learnt analyzing
data along with seriousness of writing a standard research paper. Being it a defence institution made me
discipline and punctual.
During my final internship I even presented posters in well known institutes like IIT Bombay and DIAT,
DRDO which taught me to how to be presentable and explain the complicated work to veterans and even
those who have no background knowledge about the topic. I have also written a research paper during my
M.Tech final semester which is currently communicated to Royal Society of Chemistry publication.

I have received many prizes in my 10+2 years from Oracle (Think.com) along with this achievement I was
even nominated for school vice captain in 11th and school captain in 12th class. Multitasking turned out to be
my greatest weakness which degraded my performance in academics. The same multitasking issue I faced
in my first year of college. I had 14 subjects to cope up with and ended up with the worst percentage in my
entire academic life. But it was this load of so many subjects that I ended up making multitasking as my
strength and kept on consistently performing well in my academics. Since my college was a new
establishment and we were the 4th batch to pass out we participated a lot in the administration section of our
college be it a syllabus or tentative date sheets proposals or contacting various renowned professors for
lecturing seminars in out college. Along with the academics I was even a team member (team leader too for
2 years) in cultural committee in college as well as hostel which made me pick up time bound tasks and
managed a group of diversely talented individuals.

As my parents belong to a backward class they have struggled a lot to be where they stand today. My
father is a M.Tech graduate from IIT Delhi in Civil engineering, and was the first child in his village to grow
more than just 10th standard and my mother is B.Arch. from NIT Trichy. She was the first girl in our clan to
study after school and an inspiration to many others. She was even the first girl in NIT Trichy before that
the college never gave admissions to girls. My parents who started their life from scratch and emerged out
from orthodox societies have taught me the value of opportunity, independency and down to earth attitude.
My father’s transferrable job has enabled me to travel to different places and be exposed to diverse
cultures. A frequent change of schools has made me adaptable to new surroundings. I feel I can adjust
easily with new people.

Even though I was not left with much time to completely dedicate myself to a particular hobby, I tried
playing guitar in leisure period. I am also fond of dancing and gardening.

Since I have no deep knowledge of finance, but as the key factors lying are mathematics, networking,
planning and imagination, I want to pursue a goal of being an investment banker or analyst and gradually
growing to become one of the finest IIMB alumni and an inspiration to many coming generations.

MBA from a renowned institute IIMB will not only help me in comprehending new methods and systems
easily it will also give me a team of expert peers and a panel of veteran professors which nurtured some of
I ndia’s finest alumni. Ultimately, I consider MBA as a professional stepping-stone in the field of
industrialization and I hope you will give me the opportunity to realize my ambition.

“Everything is possible!”

Sample 3:

Born in to a typical Indian middle class family, my formative years were spent across the length and breadth
of the country, on account of my father’s employment with a Fortune 500 Public sector undertaking in the Oil
and Gas sector. By the time I had turned thirteen, I had studied in four different schools scattered across
Western, Northern and North-eastern India. Little did I know that this early exposure to various cultures and
geographies would be a pivotal element in shaping my adult personality.

I continued my family’s tradition of academic excellence by finishing within the top 3 academic ranks in my
class for ten consecutive years. In 2010, I was accepted into Vellore Institute of Technology, a premier
privately owned engineering institution, for an undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronics
Engineering. I graduated in the top 10% bracket of my class in the year 2014, after being recruited on
campus by one of the country’s leading conglomerates- the RPG group, for an engineering role in its
flagship company CEAT Ltd.
Whilstat CEAT, I was assigned to the team working on the brownfield expansion of the company’s existing
tire plant in Vadodara, Gujarat. My job responsibilities included designing and preparing the specifications
of the equipmentto
be procured and discussing the same with domestic and international vendors, executing the erection and
commissioning of the equipment and ensuring coordination between all the stakeholders to ensure
adherence to project deadlines. I was one of the nodal persons for equipment orders worth INR 100 crores
out of a total project cost of INR 700 crores. Daunting as it may sound for a fresh graduate with no industry
experience, nevertheless it was a great learning curve in my nascent career, which was instrumental in
gravitating my interest towards the management domain. In fact, the very first lot of equipment for the project
was commissioned under my watch by a team comprising engineers from Germany and local contractual
workers.

Being an only child, I have always had time for self-introspection. Reading was actively promoted by my
parents and visits to book fairs and libraries were commonplace. Armed with an internet connection, I
turned to online articles, blog, periodicals and the Wikipedia to satiate my quest for reading material. With
the passage of time, this exposure to knowledge and facts found a logical outlet in quizzing. I became a
mainstay of my house quiz team at school and even went on to feature in a reality TV quiz show as a zonal
winner. I took this passion for quizzing to college and won several inter and intra collegiate quizzing events
as a member of the VIT Quiz Club.

By June 2016, my father would have spent 32 years of his life scouring the seas and lands of India, doing
his bit to secure our energy resources. Being an electrical engineer myself, I am well aware of our endless
quest for energy and the need to meet it in a sustainable manner. Therefore after completing my MBA, I
intend to join the Power and Energy sector coverage group of a leading investment bank, enabling me to
develop expertise in various types of transactions including fundraising strategies which in turn would be a
stepping stone for my long term aim of leading a vehicle dedicated solely to investments in renewable
energy projects and facilitating i nnovative and ground breaking renewable energy deals.
IIM-B’s PGP, with its diversified curricula, innovative teaching methods, exposure to best practices and
experimental learning will provide me with a wealth of experience in managing in a vibrant emerging
economy. Its highly qualified faculty, plethora of distinguished alumni and a peer group harvested from the
most academically consistent minds of the country are the rationale behind me applying to this programme
to pursue my management education.
Sample 4:

I am Parth Shah and my biographical sketch starts from the time I secured an admission into the arguably
the most established school of Gujarat – Sheth CN Vidyalaya, by securing first rank amongst 500 applicants.
Growing up listening to stories of our notable alumni like Vikram Sarabhai, Gautam Adani etc. always
encouraged us to give more than 100% to the task at hand and never to settle for anything but the best.
During school I was topper for 3 consecutive years and in the HSC board exams, I secured 27th merit rank in
state and for the same I was awarded a scholarship by Gujarat State Education Board. I also passed two
scholarship exams and two talent search exams – conducted by GSEB – that of International Mathematics
Olympiad conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation. Apart from this, I have participated in a lot of literary
events and I, as a committee member, managed Computer Exhibition of our school, which led our computer
centre to win literacy Excellence Award by the former honorable President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
During Oil and Gas Conversation Fortnights 2009 and 2010, I participated in state level essay competitions
and received Trophies as well as cash prizes for my devotion to the conservation steps of these conventional
resources.

My love for coding and fascination for computers made me aspire for and secure admission into one of the
best Engineering college of Gujarat – Institute of Technology, Nirma University. The first of the four years of
Engineering was a serious challenge wherein apart from the concepts I was faced with the challenge of a
transition from Vernacular (Gujarati) medium to English medium of education. With complete dedication
and hard work, I made myself comparable to other students within a short span of a year. During my
college years, I participated in various events organized throughout the university. Winning “Code Sprint”
and “Hunt for Code” are some of the most significant achievements of college years. I also had won Team
Chess events organized by RCNI. These experiences provided the base to understand leadership and
team building qualities. I have always enjoyed logic based puzzles and for the same I started a blog on
Puzzles, which currently has 8000 views. I also recently organized a Mystery Puzzles based competition
on this blog.
Reading books has been one of my keen delights which started with Gujarati and then carried on to English
books. I like to read success stories and fictions. Stories of Google, Zenefits, Rahul Dravid and Lance
Armstrong are so me of those fascinating ones that keep my faith in perseverance intact. I believe that
there are few entities that can make me divert from my aspirations. I have always tried to convert any
stumbling block into stepping stone towards success. Stick with Ethics and give your best are my
philosophies and I believe that these qualities of mine will never let the institution’s reputation down.

I have always been passionate about Entrepreneurship and hence want to expand my learning curve with
managerial concepts. For this, the opportunities I can get from IIM Bangalore through case studies,
peer-to-peer learning, faculty guidance and alumni interaction will benefit me the most in filling in the gaps.
IIMBangalore provides me with an opportunity of pursuing a semester at a partner school under its student
exchange program. A program like this will help me nurture my entrepreneurship dream by bringing in
global perspective which will help me to sustain and progress in this world of internet and softwares.

Sample 5:

I was born in Bikaner and later brought up in Ahmedabad. As my family shifted to Gujarat from Rajasthan,
the mode of instruction in school switched to English from Hindi. The transition was tremendously difficult
and was not aided by the fact that I had to pick up another language – Gujarati, as well. With the support of
my parents and teachers and extreme hard work on my part, I was able to adapt to the change and
become fluent – both in English and Gujarati and went on to become a consistent student and topper
throughout school. I actively participated in extra- curricular activities as well – I have good oratory skills
and won almost every debate and elocution competitions that I participated in at school. As the Head girl of
the school, I organised and anchor several events. I stood first in Ahmedabad taluka in HSC examinations
and received scholarships from the Gujarat State Government as well as GCMMF.

I joined the H L Institute of Commerce of the Ahmedabad University to pursue Bachelor of Co mmerce. It is
the finest college in Gujarat for the commerce stream and has an extremely dynamic set of students. The
kaleidoscopic culture of the college – full of events and festivals, helped me explore and develop my
personality. Authors such as Ayn Rand, O G Mandino, Gurcharan Das, George Orwell and JK Rowling
have been pivotal in influencing my thoughts and perspectives – I am an avid reader and have read over a
hundred and fifty books, spanning across several genres, chiefly business philosophy, light British humour,
Indian politics and fiction. Literary Events in college furthered my interest in reading - I have won inter and
intra college book review competitions.

The flexible college environment allowed me to pursue Chartered Accountancy along with graduation. I
secured distinction in Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) and also managed to maintain a
position in top ten percent of the college ranks. Presently, I am a student of the CA Finals.

I have an experience of thirty six months of Articleship. It has given me an exposure to several aspects of
businesses’ functions, some of which are accountancy, tax audits, government audits, service tax
compliances, document drafting and project finance. Working with entities such as Ahmedabad Municipal
Corporation, Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority, etc gave me an insight into the hierarchies and
functioning of large governmental organisations. I worked in the Project finance field, for Greenfield and
Brownfield projects, for short as well as long term loans. Simultaneously managing college, work and studies
familiarised me with working under constant pressure.

During Chartered Accountancy, the professors of Financial Management instilled in me a deep

affection for the subject. Furthermore, as I observed the relevance of the discipline in day to day
business operations and the subtleties of the function, my respect and inclination towards the subject
increased. I have developed particular interest in credit research and analysis and corporate finance.
Understanding sophisticated financial terms and events gives me immense satisfaction. It is my
ambition to build a career in investment Banking.
While Finance is an area of special interest to me, I need to be well versed with all the facets of busi ness.
Post Graduate Diploma in Management of IIM Bangalore offers a wide array of courses, both core and
electives, which
will provide versatility to my profile. The case based pedagogy of the institute is of great value in
practical applications of fundamentals of any course. This, along with the intellectually diverse peer
group, the bevy of internationally sought-after recruiters and the aesthetically soothing and stimulating
campus makes it a college I aspire to be a part of.

Sample 6:
I was born and brought up in Ahmedabad. My father is employed as a government official and my mother is
a homemaker. Early in my life, at the high school level, I learnt the value of hard work and perseverance.
This led me to secure 85% in my higher secondary examination. This served as a foundation for BTech in
Mechanical Engineering. I was awarded a central merit scholarship for my college education. In the final
year, I worked on the project of Sun Tracker using closed loop feedback mechanism. Co-curricular and
extra-curricular activities such as being a Volunteer for Mechanical Engineering Student Association
(MESA) helped develop my interpersonal skills. Canvassing for the college tech-fest ‘Ingenium’ conducted
by MESA was a platform to interact with students from different colleges and to encourage students to
participate in different events, which boosted my confidence and kept me positive. I also coordinated
robotics events in Ingenium from 2011-2013.

I was placed in Reliance Industries as Graduate engineer trainee in 2013 through the campus placement
program of Nirma University. My hard work and enthusiasm to learn about the job was appreciated with a
promotion to construction engineer during the first-year appraisal process. As construction engineer, my
first assignment was oil storage tank fabrication and erection. This assignment helped me understand
application of manufacturing processes in equipment fabrication, quality procedures and safety
procedures. Overseeing the whole process as execution engineer helped improve my leadership and
team skills because I had to manage different teams.
Everyone faces challenges in his job. My assignment of 70 m steel scaffold erection did, undoubtedly, help
me learn technical aspects of the job but more than anything helped me overcome my fear of heights.

I like swimming both as a sport and an exercise and I have been pursuing it since childhood. Swimming
helps me to stay fit and active. I also workout at a gym.

At Reliance Industries, I worked on diverse technical assignments. Having worked in technical roles, I wish
to learn management skills. For becoming a competent manager, high quality theoretical learning coupled
with its practical application is the best possible tool. IIM-Bangalore with its cutting-edge pedagogy,
infrastructure, and international and domestic industry exposure will help me to imbibe this knowledge. The
vibrant intellectual atmosphere created by the very accomplished faculty, peers from different backgrounds
and industries will give me an enhanced le arning experience. The post graduate program in management
would equip me with the necessary operational skills along with the conceptual knowledge necessary for a
managerial role in the dynamic business scenario.

Working as construction engineer for 2.5 years, I learned to execute the project using the available
resources. On all occasions, I have executed the work with set quality and safety parameters within the
scheduled time. I would like to learn allocation of resources- people, material and equipment. I would like to
learn how Management allocates the resources to projects based on the organization’s priorities. I do not
