Activity 1. Answer the following questions. Make a proper citation of your sources.

1. What is the difference between Resting Heart Rate (RHR) and Rate of Perceived
Exertion (RPE)?

Adults should have a resting heart rate of 60 to 100 beats per minute. In general, a lower resting heart
rate indicates better cardiac function and cardiovascular fitness. A well-trained athlete, for example,
might have a normal resting heart rate of around 40 beats per minute. In sports, and particularly
exercise testing, the Borg rating of perceived exertion scale is a commonly used quantitative measure
of perceived exertion during physical activity.

I
LET’S NQUIRE!
Activity 1.

1. How important is Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) in performing physical activities?

RPE stands for Rate of Perceived Exertion, and fitness professionals such as personal trainers can use the
RPE Scale to determine how hard their clients believe they are working. RPE stands for Rate of Perceived
Exertion, and it is a method of determining how hard a person feels they are working during physical
activity. A high connection occurs between a person's perceived exertion rating times 10 and the real
heart rate during physical activity; thus, a person's exertion rating may provide a pretty decent
approximation of the actual heart rate during physical activity.
