1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake.
Chock the tires.
2. Disconnect the batteries at the negative post, including the batteries for the auxiliary
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), if equipped.
3. Remove the transmission. Refer to section "Removal of the Transmission" .
4. Loosen the clutch bolts incrementally in a star pattern. Do not remove the bolts.

6. On the upper half of the pressure plate, replace two of the bolts with pressure plate
guide pins. To manufacture pressure plate guide pins, refer to the dimensions in the table
below.
Pressure Plate Guide Pin Installation

NOTE: Manufacture two guide pins from M10 bolts according to the dimensions shown:

B. 30 mm (1-3/16 in.)
C. M10 x 1.5
Typical Guide Pin Installation

A. Range for Installing Guide Pins

B. Install two guide pins within the shown range, as widely separated as possible.
NOTICE:
The pressure plate has an internal adjustment mechanism, which cannot be reset. The
pressure plate does not need to be “caged,” and is designed not to adjust during removal,
but rough handling or an improper resting position could affect the adjustment. Do not
drop the pressure plate, and always store it resting on the friction surface to prevent
unintended adjustment.

7. Remove the remaining bolts. Remove the clutch and rest it on the friction surface.
8. Inspect the flywheel surface, starter ring, and pilot bearing. Repair as necessary.
