I DEFINITION OF TERMS
1. ENERGY- the capacity for doing work. It may exist in potential, kinetic, thermal, electrical,
chemical, nuclear, or other various forms.
2. WORK- the energy needed to apply a force to move an object a particular distance.
3. POWER- a measure of the rate at which work is done (or similarly, at which energy is
transferred).
4. VOLTAGE- the pressure from an electrical circuit’s power source that pushes charged electrons
(current) through a conducting loop, enabling them to do work such as illuminating a light.
5. ELECTRIC CURRENT- refers to the flow of electricity in an electronic circuit, and to the amount
of electricity flowing through a circuit.
PART I
GIVEN:
E=8V
R 1= 5 Ω
R 2= 6 Ω
R 3= 4 Ω
R 4= 8 Ω
R5= 14 Ω
R6= 14 Ω
R7= 11 Ω
R8=5 Ω
REQT:
1. COMPUTE FOR THE TOTAL RESISTANCE (RT = 9.235 Ω)
R 1= 5 Ω
R7 + R8= 16 Ω
(R7,8) (R6) / R7,8 + R6 = 16(14)/16+14= 7.47 Ω
R4+R6,7,8= 8+7.47= 15.47 Ω
R2+R3= 10 Ω
R2,3(R4,6,7,8) / R2,3+R4,6,7,8 = 10(7.348)/10+7.348= 4.235 Ω
RT = R1+R2,3,4,5,6,7,8
RT=5 Ω + 4.235 Ω
RT = 9. 235 Ω
2. COMPUTE FOR THE TOTAL CURRENT (IT = 0.87 Amp)
IT=ET/RT
IT= 8/9.235
IT= 0.87 Amp
3. COMPUTE FOR THE TOTAL POWER (PT = 7 WATTS)
PT=ET x IT
PT=8(0.87)
PT= 7 WATTS
