Mummy In Egypt

Over one million animal mummies have been found in Egypt, many of which are
cats. The oldest known naturally mummified human corpse is dated as 6,000 years old.
The discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb is considered as one of the greatest discoveries.
He was the pharaoh in Ancient Egypt. His wife is Ankhesenamun. She was the third of
six known daughters of the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten.
A mummy is a dead human or an animal whose soft tissues and organs have
been preserved by either intentional or accidental exposure to chemicals, extreme cold,
very low humidity or lack of air so that the recovered body does not decay further if kept
in cool and dry conditions. Some authorities restrict the use of the term to bodies
deliberately embalmed with chemicals.
After dehydration, the mummy was wrapped in many layers of linen bandages.
Once the mummy was completely wrapped, it was coated in a resin in order to keep
the moist air away. Resin was also applied to the coffin in order to seal it. The mummy
was then sealed within its tomb. Egyptians saw the preservation of the body after death
as an important step to living well in the afterlife.
