A- Defining Ethics and Morals

1-What is ethics: (/1.5)

Ethics is defining what is right or wrong according to the rules of the society.

2-What are morals? (/1.5)

Morals are what is right or wrong according to individual’s believe.

3-Take a moment and write what is the type of the morale dilemma. Also write down your
justification on why you considered it that type. (/3)

Scenario:

In this scenario, a loved one has been placed in a special residential center, which is
expensive. Their children don’t have the funds to pay, but the loved one does.
Unfortunately, the only way to access those funds is to trick the loved one into revealing
their bank account information.

Answer:

This is an obligation moral dilemma; where the person had a sense of responsibility to take
care of children’s funds, but to do so she/he must trick their loved one.

4- Identifying Stages

Scenario: Mona recently witnessed another company employee taking food from the
vending machine without paying. She didn’t say anything, reasoning that everyone does it
at times and this person must be in need.

a- What is her Level of Development? (/2)

She is at level two: Conventional Morality.

She normalized that the employee took food without paying because everyone does
that at a time.

b-What her Decision at Level Three would be? (/2)

If she is at level three: Post- Conventional Morality, she would ask the employee to pay or
tell his/her supervisor to take an action.
