Detailed Lesson Plan in Electrical Installation and Maintenance

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard
The learner demonstrates an understanding of the principles in the installation
of electrical lighting systems, auxiliary outlets and lighting fixtures
B. Performance Standard
The learner independently installs electrical lighting systems, auxiliary outlets
and lighting fixtures based in the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) standards
and Local Code/Utility Company Regulations

C. Learning Competencies
LO2. Install electrical systems auxiliary outlets and lighting fixture
a. Identifying the purpose of a 3 way switch works
b. Circuit using 3 way switches in 2 locations
c. Value the importance of safety precaution in connecting the 3 way switch in two
different locations.
II. CONTENT
A. Subject Matter: Basic electrical wiring installation
3- way switch
B. Materials:
2 three way switch junction box
THHN wire receptacle
Incandescent bulb utility box
C. Tools:
Multi tester
Combination plier
Side cutting plier
screw driver

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References
IV. PROCEDURES

Teachers Activity Students Activity

A. Reviewing previous lesson or
presenting the new lesson
Preliminary Activities
-Greetings
-observing the health protocols Positive responses from the students
-Checking of attendance
-Maintaining clean and orderliness inside the
room
The teacher let the students trace back their
family history from their grandfather, to
parents then children ( 1 minute)

Follow up questions:
1. Have you traced any Tingguian roots?
Students answer varies.
2. How many generations do we have? Three.

3. Regardless of what tribe you have, will Students answer varies

you cite 3 ways on how we connect to
a. ATANG (food offering)
our dead relatives?
b. SANIB (dead soul enters living
body of human)
Our culture belief and customs differ c. PALUALO ( rosary prayer for the
depending on what tribe we belong to. We dead souls)
have different traditions and practices on how
we connect to our dead relatives in order for
their souls to attain peace/enlightenment in
God’s grace and receive Eternal Life.

B. Establishing a purpose for the

lesson
To understand the lesson better, let us have a
game.
(Teacher will divide the class in groups
heterogeneously. Instruct clearly the
mechanics of the game on how to come up
with the right connection and earn points)
So, what do you think of our lesson today?
3 way switch

The learners are expected to

a. Identifying the purpose of a 3 way
switch works
b. Circuit using 3 way switches in 2
locations
c. Value the importance of safety
precaution in connecting the 3 way
switch in two different locations.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the

lesson

The teacher will present the correct answer of

the game.

Very Good, this is the 3 way switch

D. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills no. 1

Three way switches are used to control a

light bulb in different locations
The teacher will play a 3 way gif to show
how a 3 way switch work.

These switches do not have an ON/ OFF

position like that of single-pole, single throw
switches It is called a 3 way switch because there are
three conductors connecting the switches.

It is called a 3 way switch because there

are three conductors connecting the
switches.
 Common terminal
 Terminal 1
 Terminal 3
E. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills no. 2

The teacher will demonstrate the technique in

wiring 2 three-way switches controlling a light
bulb.
*PRECATIONS AND REMINDERS:
In any electrical works, SAFETY
PRECAUTIONS comes first. That’s why we
also need to discuss some safety precautions
In order to achieve a safer and better result of
works.
1.Always wear personal protective equipment
(PPE)
2. Always have presence of mind while
working.
3. Do not connect directly to the source
current.
4. Make sure that the two opposite lines not
be contact with each other.
5. Used appropriate tools in joining two wires.
6. Test the circuit before connecting it to the
source current.

STEPS IN CIRCUITING A 3 WAY SWITCH

1. Mount the electrical boxes and circuit
breakers following he given dimension
2. Prepare the
3. Mount the electrical boxes and circuit

4. Connect the common wire of three way
switch S3W1 to the power source L1
5. Connect the pair of travelers of three
way switch S3W1 to the pair of travelers
of three- way switch S3W2.
6. Connect the common wire of the S3W2
to the first terminal T1 of the light bulb.
7. Connect wire from the second terminal
T2 of the light bulb to the source L2.
8. Review connections and test it with a
multi- tester
9. Energize the job.
F. Developing Mastery
Students will proceed to their group
The teacher will present the dimension
and perform the given task on
of their performance task with rubrics.

health protocols and safety
precautions. They will follow the rubric
as their guide.

Aside from a staircase, cite possible places or

areas, where we can apply 3 way switches.
H. Making generalizations and
abstractions about the lesson

To generalize the topic today, I would

like you to come up with an illustration
of schematic diagram using a 3 way
circuit in 2 different locations along a
staircase of a 2-storey residential
building.

Present and explain the purpose of this

switch, the correct connections of wires Students’ illustration may vary but
and the importance of safety when connection of 3 way switch remains the
performing electrical installation. same.

I. Evaluating Learning

Short quiz.
1. How many switches do you need to Answers
construct a three way switch? 1. C
A. 1 B.2 2. B
C. 3 D. 4 3. A
2. What is the purpose of three way light 4. B
switch? 5. A
A. It allows you to dim the light
B. It allows you to control the light
from two switches
C. It allows you to control three
switches
D. It allows you to stop the flow of
current.
3. What does a “three” in a three way
switch refer to?
A. Three terminal in the switch
B. Three position each switch can
be set to
C. Three switches in the circuit
D. three lamp in two switch

4. What you must do in testing the

electrical current?
A. turn of the switch
B. turn off power
C. remove all the light bulb
D. cut the wires

5. What are the wires in a 3 way

switch?
a. Common(0), terminal1(1) and
terminal 2(3)
b. Common(3), terminal1(1) and
terminal 2(0)
c. Common(1), terminal1(0) and
terminal 2(3)
d. All of the above
J. Additional Activities for application
or remediation

Using your own designed schematic

diagram in 3 way switch, finalized it
and make a blueprint with 3 way
switches in 4 different locations.
