1. Is a set of vectors {(1, 1, 1), (3, 1, 2), (0, 1, 0)} form a basis for a vector
space? If yes then write the vector (1, 2, 3) in this basis.

2. Find a basis for the linear vector space of matrices , with

condition a + d = 0. Here a, b, c, and d are real numbers. Find its
dimension.
3. Does {t + 1, t − 1, t2 + 1} form a basis for a vector space?
4. Find the angle between two functions f( x) = sin(2x) and f2 (x) =
cos(2x) over the range [−π, π]. Are these functions linearly indepen-
dent?
5. Find the orthonormal basis for the subspace of R4 spanned by x1 =
(1, 0, 1, 0), x2 = (1, 1, 1, 1), and x3 = (−1, 2, 0, 1).
6. Discuss the diagonalizability of the following matrices
       

p2 → p2 defined as T (p2(x)) = −2c + (a + 2b + c)x + (a + 3c)x2 where
p2 (x) = a + bx + cx2.
