Good morning class!
Good morning teacher!
How your day?
Good!
Good!
That’s good to know.

Before we start we start our lesson, jomen, will

you please lead the prayer?
Ok ma’am. Classmates please stand up, in the
name of the father, the son, the holy, spirit,
amen…..
Ok, thank you very much. Before we start please
pick up those pieces of paper under your chair.
Done ma’am!
Ok very good, you may sit now.
Thank you ma’am!
Maricel, is there any absent today?
None ma’am. We are all present today.
That’s good to know. Very good class!

A. ENGAGE

Before we start to our main topic, we will have a

prelim activity. As you can see on the board, I
wrote:

1. (5x8-20)÷4+10=N

Please answer the problem written on the board.

Write it in a clean sheet of paper. I’m giving 5
minutes for you to answer.

Done, class?

I need two volunteers to answer equation number Yes, teacher.

1. Go to the board and show your solution.
1. (5x8-20)÷4+10=N
(40-20)÷4+10=N
20÷4+10=N
5+10=N
15=N
Teacher, here’s my answer.

2. (5x8-20)÷4+10=N
(40-20)÷14=N
20÷14=N
1.43=N

This is my answer, teacher.

Pepe answered 15 while Pilar found 1.43 as an
answer in the equation. Who do you think got the
correct solution? We will find out in the next steps
of our session.
By the way, thank you for your effort in solving the
equation. That’s good, you are willing to
participate and learn.

B. EXPLORE

What have you noticed in the equation? Yes, Ion.

Teacher, I observed that it consist of different
operations like add, subtract, times and divide.
Yes, very good. Your observation is correct, Ion.
The equation on the board shows the combination
of operations in solving. It consists of Addition,
Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. In fact,
the expression Pepe and Pilar answered can be
solved by following the rules on order of
operations. It is called PMDAS.

Got the acronym, class?

Yes, teacher.
What is the first to be used in an operation, Rut?
I guess the first operation to be used is the
parenthesis.
Yes, Rut. Thank you. In solving any expression that
has more than one operation, you should see and
answer first the number inside the parenthesis.
What is the next step, Yom? The second step is the multiplication, teacher.

Very good, Yom. Multiplication as well as Division,

is next to be solved from left to right. Got it, class?
Yes, teacher.
What’s the next and last rule, Vax?
Teacher, the last rules to used the Addition and
Subtracton.
Very good, Vax. The last rule is to perform Addition
and Subtraction from left to right.
Do you understand, class?
Yes, teacher.
Let us see who among Pepe and Pilar got the
correct answer.

(5x8-20)÷4+10=N Solve the operations

inside the parenthesis
(40-20)÷4+10=N Multiply 5 and 8 first
20÷4+10=N Add 4 and 10
5+10=N Divide 20 by 4
15=N Add 5 and 10

Therefore, the answer is 15. Do you follow on how

I used the rule?
Yes, teacher.
All you have to do is to follow the PMDAS rules in
order for you to get the correct answer.

C. EXPLAIN

Now that you have prior knowledge on how to use

PMDAS rule, I am going to give some examples for
you to deeply understand our lesson.
Eyes and ears on me and on the board, class.

Example #1

400÷2x5-120+5 Divide 400 by 2

= 200x5-120+5 Multiply 200 by 5
= 1000-120+5 Subtract 120 from 1000
= 880+5 Then, add.
= 885
What did we get after solving the equation?
885 is the answer, teacher.

We got 885 as we follow the rules of PMDAS.

Example #2

44(9÷3)-81+45 Solve the expression

inside the parenthesis
= 44x3-81+45 Multiply 44 by 3
= 132-81+45 Subtract 81 from 132
= 51+45 Then, add.
= 96
What did we get after solving the equation? 96, teacher.

We got 96 as we follow the rule of PMDAS.

Example #3

100÷(18+10-18)x4 Solve the expression

inside the parenthesis
= 100÷10x4 Divide 100 by 10
= 10x4 Then, multiply.
= 40
What did we get after solving the equation?
40 is the answer, teacher.
We got 40 as an answer as we follow the rule of
PMDAS
Any question, class?
Nothing, teacher. We understood how to used the
rules of PMDAS in solving an equation.
If it’s so, let us move forward to our activity for
today.

D. ELABORATE

This is individual so all you need to prepare is your

pen and paper. Cell phones and calculator are not
allowed. Is that clear? Yes, teacher.

This activity is problem solving so you have to read

it and understand the situation for you to get the
correct answer.

Your time starts now.

Mang Delfin bought 60 crates of

chicos. Each crate contained 150
chicos. He repacked the into bags
of 6 chicos each. How many bags
of chicos did he make?

Are you done, class?

We are done, teacher.

Who wants to answer in the board

My solution is (60x150)÷6=N. The answer is 1,500
teacher.
Okay, thank you. 1,500 is correct but how do we
get 1,500? Here is the solution.

First thing to do is to know the total number of

chicos. Since there are 60 crates containing 150
chicos, we have to multiply 60 by 150 and we will
get 9,000. 9,000 will be divided by 6 and 1,5000 is
the answer.

(60x150)÷6=N
(60X150)÷6=9,000÷6=1,500

Therefore, Mang Delfin repacked 1,5000 bags of

chicos.
Did you get the same answer, class?
Yes, teacher. Same answer, 1,500 bags of repacked
chicos.

E. EVALUATE

It seems that you understood the lesson using

PMDAS rule in solving equation. I have here short
quiz. Copy and answer it correctly. Okay?
Yes, teacher.

Quiz :
Direction : Solve the following equations.

1. 2+100÷2-6=N
2. 45÷5-32÷8=N
3. 81-6x3+7=N
4. 81÷(9x3)=N
5. 25÷5+(14-13)=N

Seems that everyone is done doing their task. Seb,

what is your answer in number 1?
1. 2+100÷2-6=N
2+50-6
52-6
46
Very good, Seb. How about for number 2? Yes, Col.

2. 45÷5-32÷8=N
9-4
5

Correct, Col. For number 3? Yes, Ima.

3. 81-6x3+7=N
81-18+7
81-25
56

You are correct, Ima. What is the answer in

number 4?
4. 81÷(9x3)=N
81÷27
3

Very good! Now for last number? Yes, Cob.

5. 25÷5+(14-13)=N
25÷5+1
5+1
6
It is so good to know that everyone got the correct
answer. Therefore, you understood how PMDAS
rule works in an equation. It really helpful to know
PMDAS for you to get the correct answer. Hope
you enjoyed our session today.
For you assignment, copy the equations on the
board and you have to submit it on next week. So,
you have weekends to answer the assignment.

Assignment :
Directon : Solve each problem.

1) Mr. Solidarios charged Randolf Php320 for

parts and Php150 per hour for labor to
repair his bicycle. If he spent 3 hours
repairing her bike, how much does Randolf
owe him?

Thanks, class. Stand up and Joey, lead the closing

prayer.
Classmates, let us pray. In the name of the Ftaher,
the Son, the Holy Spirit. Amen…
Have a bless weekend, class!
