1 requirement profile
principle
For admission to the Master's degree program in Statistics (degree program), all of the requirements listed below
must be met.
1
Admission to the degree program requires a university bachelor's degree worth at least 180 credit points
ECTS(4 (CP) or an at least equivalent university degree or a bachelor's degree from a Swiss university of applied
sciences (FH)(5) , in conjunction with which with any technical requirements within the given framework – the
technical and performance-related admission requirements can be met.
2
A bachelor's degree from a university only allows admission to a master's degree at ETH Zurich if it allows
unconditional admission to the desired university master's degree in the university system in which it was acquired.
The rector can also request proof of a place at university. He/she determines whether this proof must be provided
by the university of origin or by another university in the country of the bachelor's degree.
1
The master's degree in statistics requires basic knowledge and skills that, in terms of content, scope, quality
and skill level, must be equivalent to those taught at ETH Zurich (technical requirements profile).
2
The technical requirement profile includes a total of 21 credits and is based on knowledge and skills that
are taught at ETH Zurich in the mathematics, natural sciences or engineering bachelor's degree programs. This
also includes teaching the appropriate methodological and scientific thinking. The details are listed in paragraph
5.
3
If a candidate does not fully meet the technical requirements, admission may be subject to the requirement to
acquire missing technical knowledge and skills. The scope of the requirements is expressed in KP. The details
about meeting admission requirements can be found in Section 4
this appendix.
4
ECTS: European Credit Transfer System. Credit points (CP) describe the average student effort
required to achieve a learning goal. One CP corresponds to a workload of around 30 hours.
5
A diploma from a Swiss university of applied sciences is equivalent to a bachelor's degree in the same
field of study. Bachelor's degrees obtained at a German or Austrian university of applied sciences are
generally equivalent to a bachelor's degree from a Swiss university of applied sciences.

4
Admission to the course of study is not possible if a candidate has major gaps in their subject area.
The details are regulated in the following paragraphs of this appendix.
5
The technical requirement profile includes basic knowledge of the following
Areas of expertise:
Learning units (LE) in these subject areas are offered in various bachelor's degree programs at
ETH Zurich. The mathematical subjects and computer science of the Bachelor's degree program
in Biology serve as a guide for the content.
6
The knowledge acquired for the technical requirement profile in accordance with paragraph 5 must
generally come from a completed degree program. If this knowledge does not come from a completed
degree, you must have achieved very good academic performance in the relevant subjects.
1
The language of instruction in the course is English.
2
Sufficient knowledge of English is required for admission to the course
(Level C1(6) can be demonstrated.
3
Anyone applying for admission to the course of study with a bachelor's degree from a university of
applied sciences must also provide proof of sufficient German language skills (level C1) due to the
admission requirements (Section 2.2 Paragraph 2 of this appendix).
4
The required language certificates must be submitted by the last day of the application period at the
latest. The recognized language skills (certificates) are published on the ETH Zurich website.
Admission to the course requires very good academic performance in the previous course of study
in advance.
6 The required language level depends on the scaling of the European Framework of Reference for Languages:

1
Anyone who has a bachelor's degree from a Swiss university of applied sciences must meet all
the requirements set out in section 1 of this appendix in order to be admitted to the course of study.

The admission decision applies to entry into the master's program:
a. You can enroll in the degree program as soon as you only need to acquire the number of credits for the
bachelor's degree that enables you to enroll in the consecutive master's degree program in your original field
of study (7 .

The permissible number of missing credits is set out in the study regulations of the respective consecutive Master's degree program
(e.g.: BSc Mechanical Engineering ÿ MSc Mechanical Engineering).

c. Admission is provisional as long as the bachelor's degree has not been obtained.
It will be revoked if the bachelor's degree is not acquired or cannot be acquired.

4.1 General
1
Candidates whose admission was subject to conditions acquire the required additional
knowledge and skills before or during their master's degree through self-study or attending
classes. The performance assessments planned for the individual subjects must be
completed within the set deadlines.
2
If the performance assessments are not passed or the deadlines set for them are not met,
the course of study is deemed to have been definitively failed, which will result in exclusion
from the course of study.

candidates' previous education (see sections 4.2 and 4.3 below).
1
Candidates with a university bachelor's degree must have completed all performance
assessments for the first time no later than one year after starting their studies. The
requirements, including any repetition of performance assessments, must be met no later than
