Instructions: This paper consists of two questions which are mandatory, complete both in a new
file in AutoCAD.

1) A piece of string AB, shown in Fig. 2 , is wrapped around the cylinder, center O, in a
clockwise direction. The length of the string is equal to the circumference of
the cylinder.
(a) Show, by calculation, the length of the string, correct to the nearest 1 mm, taking
π=3.14.
(b) Plot the path of the end B of the string as it is wrapped round the cylinder, keeping the
string taut.

(c) Name the curve you have drawn. (15 marks)

2) Draw a cycloid of a rolling circle of 80mm, with the initial point at the bottom of
the circle's vertical center line. Locate a point P at any point on the drawn cycloid
and draw a normal and tangent. (15 marks)
