Madam/Sir,
As you are aware 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' (AKAM) is being celebrated to commemorate
the 75 glorious years of a progressive Independent India. Under the aegis of AKAM, a campaign
"Har Ghar Tiranga" will be celebrated from 13th to 15th August 2023 to encourage the citizens
to hoist the National Flag of India in their homes. For reference, salient features of the Flag Code of
India, 2002 including changes made therein on 30th December, 2021 & 20th July, 2022 is
attached as Annexure-A, and FAQs about the use/ display of the Indian National Flag are a lso
enclosed as Annexure- B.
It is requested to disseminate this informa tion to all the Kendriya Vidyalayas under the
Region to encourage the teachers/staff members/ students/ parents and community at large t o
hoist the National Flag of India in their homes from 13-15 August 2023 .
Further, It is also requested to give wide publicity to this campaign through websites,
social media platforms with proper hashtags by Regional Office and Kendriya Vidyalayas .
An action taken report with 5 best photos and videos in this regard, may be submitted to
this office on 16.08.2023 to the AKAM email id of this office.

Salient Features of Flag Code of India, 2002
1. The Indian National Flag represents the hopes and aspirations of the
people of India. It is the symbol of our national pride and there is universal
affection and respect for, and loyalty to, the National Flag. It occupies a
unique and special place in the emotions and psyche of the people of
India. ~ . -
c) The Flag Code of India, 2002 was amended vide Order dated 20th
July, 2022 and clause (xi) of paragraph 2.2 of Part-II of the Flag
Code of India was replaced by the following clause:-
(xi) "where the Flag is displayed in open or displayed on
the house of a member of public, it may be flown day
and night;"

Q-1. \\' hat is the appropriah.· size and ratio of the National Flag?
/\s per paragraph 1.3 & 1.4 or the Flag Code or India, the National
1:1ag shall be rectangular in shape. The Flag can be of any si1.t.: but the
ratio or the length to the height (width) or the National Flag shall be
3:2.
/\s per paragraph 2.2 or the Flag Code or India, a member or the
puhl ic, a private organization, or an educational institution may
hoist/display the National Flag on all days or occasions in accordance
wi th the dignity and honour or the National Fl<-~g.

The Flag Code or India, 2002 was amended vide Order dated 20 111
July, 2022 and clause (xi) o!'paragraph 2.2 ofPart-11 of the 1:1ag Cotk

Q7. What should I keep in mind while displaying the National Flag at
my home?
Whenever the National Flag is on display, it should occupy the
position or honour and should be distinctly placed. !\ damaged or
dishevelled National !:lag should not be displayed .
Q9. Arc there any rules for prevention of insult to the Indian
National Flag'!
Yes. 111 accordance with explanation 4 to section 2 or ''the
Prevention or Insults to Nationalllonour Act, 1971 ',the rollowing
should be observed:
• ., he National Flag shall not be used as a portion or costume
or uniform or accessory of any description which is worn
below the waist or any person nor shall it be embroidered or
printed on cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, undergarments
or any dress material.

Q 13. How can we display the Indian National Flag along with flags
of other nations'!
• J\~ per paragraph 3.32 of the Flag Code of India, when the
National 1:1ag is displayed in a straight line with flags of other
countries, the National Flag shall be on the extreme right. The
flags ol' other nations will f(Jllow in an alphabetical order as per
the I~ n g l ish versions of names or the nations.
• If the flags arc flown in a closed circle formation, the National
Flag is flown first and is followed by flags of other national in a
clockwise manner.
• When the llag is di splayed against the wall with another !lag
fl·o m crossed staffs, the National Flag shall be on the right and
its stalT will he in ll·ont ofthe staJTofthe other f1ag.
• 'When the National Flag is ll own with flags or other nations, the
flag masts shall be or equal si/.e.
