INDIVIDUAL WRITING PROJECT - ODE, SONNET, ELEGY

TOPIC: POEM MAKING

Learning Outcome:
Able to write poems coherently to communicate thoughts, feelings, and ideas, in which the
development, strategy, organization, and style are appropriate for writing purposes.

Your Project:
Purpose:
Create a sonnet or an elegy or an ode (length depended on poem’s type characteristics).

Task:
After learning about elements of poetry, points of view, reading strategies, writing strategies, and
how to analyze a poem in groups and individual works, students will create a poem as their final
writing product. The poem is related to social studies or science topics and based on the
characteristics of the poem itself.

The product will be graded based on this rubric. Consequently, students have to use this rubric as a
guide when working on the writing product and recheck it before they submit it.

Okay, so the idea is a basketball player was playing recklessly then when he tried to
dunk the basketball he slipped and broke his knee. And the poem will express this by,
for example, saying how he built his career and because he was playing recklessly and
broke his knee, his career ended
