Make it personal.

In pairs, write simple instructions explaining

to child how to play a sport. Read them to another pair.

1. Basketball is played by two teams

of five players each. The objective
of each team is to put the ball into
the opponent's basket and prevent
the opponent from taking
possession of the ball or making a
basket.

2. It is forbidden to run with the ball in the hands. The player

must throw it from the place where he takes it.

3. The ball can only be held with the hands, not with the arms
or the body.

4. The basket in which a team attacks is the opponent's basket

and the one in which it defends is its basket.

5. The ball may be passed, shot,

dribbled, rolled or bounced in
any direction within the
restrictions of the relevant
articles of the rules.

6. Points are scored when the

ball thrown or shoveled from
the court, enters the basket
and stays there without the
attacking team touching or moving the basket. If the ball
stays at the rim and an opponent moves the basket, it will
count as a point for the attackers.

7. The team with the highest number of points at the end of the
fourth period or, if necessary, one or more extra periods,
shall be the winner of the game.

8. The assistant referee watches the players and notes any

fouls. He also warns the main referee when a team commits
three consecutive fouls.

9. When the ball goes out of the court it is thrown back into the
court and will go into the possession of the first person to
touch it. In case of doubt, the assistant referee will throw the
ball high and two opponents will try to intercept it by
jumping. The player who serves has five seconds. If it takes
longer, the ball passes to the opponent. It shall be considered
a foul if a team continuously delays play.

10. The head referee watches the ball and decides when it
is in play, when it has left the court and to whom it belongs.
He also decides when a point is scored, keeps the score and
controls the time along with other referee duties.

11. The match consists of four periods of 10 or 12 minutes

each. Between quarters there are five-minute breaks.
