DYSTOPIA OR REALITY?

How do dystopian works reflect people’s fears and anxieties?

• Night Raiders, Danis Goulet

• Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker

• Paradise, Boris Kunz

NIGHT RAIDERS

• Danis Goulet

• 2021

• dystopia, science-fiction, thriller

In a future where North America is under military occupation and

children become the property of the state, a desperate mother joins a
group of vigilantes to infiltrate the youth assimilation camps and reclaim
her daughter.

This dystopian movie can reflect people’s fears and anxieties by the totalitarian
government that is controlling all the country in a horrific way, and by the
children who are mistreated.

I liked Night Raiders because it shows us that the world can easily degenerate
with bad person in the power.
BLACK MIRROR

• Charlie Brooker

• 2011

• dystopia, science-fiction, thriller, drama

Black Mirror is a popular anthology series that explores the dark

side of technology and its impact on society. Each episode tells a
different story, often set in a near-future or alternative reality. The show
delves into themes like social media obsession, virtual reality, artificial
intelligence, and the consequences of our interconnected world. It's
known for its thought-provoking and sometimes unsettling storytelling.

Black Mirror can reflect people’s fear and anxieties by the influence of
technology on us and on our psychology. The more time advances,
the more efficient the technology is, and this can have harmful
consequences on us as we can see in the episodes of this TV series.

Black Mirror is one of my favorite TV series. All the episodes shows us

a new version of the failure of the technology and this serie is
prevention for us. She warns us against the dangers of technology.
PARADISE

• Boris Kunz

• 2023

• dystopia, thriller, science-fiction, action

In the future, a method of transferring years of life to another

person changes the world and makes Aeon a billionaire company. To
repay her debts, Elena has to pay 40 years of her life, depriving her and
her husband Max of their shared future. Max, an employee of Aeon, tries
to reclaim those lost years, but it proves to be more difficult than he
thought.

Paradise can reflect people’s fear and anxieties because this movie
shows us that we can buy things with the time. As we can see in it,
sometimes it can be impossible to buy with the time and there are
horrible consequences.

I liked this movie because it shows the world with the time as its way
of paying. As the two other dystopian works, it is reflecting the world
as it worse, a world doomed to its downfall.
