Unit Title: Living together as a family
Focus Question: How do family members relate to each other?
Attainment Target:
1. Develop an understanding of the interdependent relationship between man and
his environment.
Day 1&2
Objectives: After listening activity, at least 80% of students should be able to:
1. Identify different ways in which families and family groups live and work
together.
Procedures/Activities
Engage: Begin lesson with the reading of the story “The New Neighbour”.
Students will be engaged in discussion about what was read.
Explore: Students will speak freely about their time at primary school. They will turn to
page 38 of their Integrated Studies text. Students will view pictures of the story
“ A New Boy” ,they will describe what is seen happening in the story. For
example: 1. The children were laughing at the boy.
All the children are happy, they are happy. Each picture will be discussed.
Explain: Students will tell at least two ways in which a new student should be treated.
Responses will be recorded on the board. Students will give words to describe the characters
in the story. For example: unkind, friendly
Expand: Students will be placed in groups of four (4). Groups will be selected to be polite
and impolite. In groups, students will discuss how each group would treat a new child in their
class. Groups will then do a dramatization of how they would treat the new child.
Brief discussions will be done after each presentation.
Evaluate:
1. Students will use descriptive words given to make simple sentences about
the characters in the story. For example: mean- The boys were very mean
to the new boy.
2. Students will complete activity from page 39 of their Integrated Studies
Text.

Day 3 & 4
Objectives: With at least 90% accuracy, at least 95% of students should be able to:
1. Switch on command from creole to SJE
2. Identify the main idea from presentation shown.
Skills: switching dialect,
Material: Integrated Text
Procedures/ Activities
Engage: Recall previous day’s lesson. Guide students to read the words of the song “ Howdy
Tenky” written in creole. Students will listen then sing along with the song with the teacher.
Explore : Students will be guided to try and sing song in SJE. This will be done
several times. Student will watch a computer presentation on social graces. YouTube

Explain: Students will tell what they have learnt about social graces from the presentation. A
brief discussion will be done.
Expand: Students will be given word cards with creole words from the song. Guide students
to say the words in SJE.
Evaluate: Students will be given Creole words to write the SJE words for each. For example
1. Mi soon come back – I will be back soon.
