DESIGN CONCEPT

The design of the split-level residential structure with an integrated pediatric clinic served as
inspiration from the ancient Chinese philosophy of yin and yang, emphasizing the harmonious
coexistence of opposing elements. This philosophy serves as a guiding principle for creating a balanced
and integrated living and healthcare space in Antipolo, Rizal.

The lower level of the structure represents yin, embodying qualities such as tranquility and privacy.
This area is dedicated to residential space, characterized by flowing lines and a seamless connection to
a serene garden. The design prioritizes creating a peaceful environment for the family, emphasizing a
sense of privacy and relaxation.

In contrast, the pediatric clinic occupies the higher level and symbolizes yang, embracing
characteristics like vibrancy, playfulness, and dynamism. The clinic incorporates lively colors, playful
elements, and child-friendly spaces to ensure a welcoming and engaging atmosphere for young patients.
This intentional separation of spaces based on the yin-yang concept allows each area to fulfill its distinct
purpose while contributing to the overall balance of the architectural design.

Despite their differences, the residential and clinic spaces are seamlessly connected. A consistent
material palette, a balanced color scheme, and circular motifs throughout the design subtly reflect the
yin-yang symbol. This integration reinforces the concept of harmonious coexistence, highlighting the
interconnectedness of seemingly opposing elements.

The exterior facade of the structure is designed with simplicity and elegance in mind. Clean lines,
minimalistic features, and a touch that resonates with the yin-yang concept contribute to a memorable
and visually appealing building exterior. This design approach extends the philosophy beyond the interior,
creating a holistic and cohesive architectural solution.

Importantly, the design process emphasizes functionality through thoughtful consideration of space
programming, anthropometrics, and ergonomics. This ensures flexibility to meet the diverse needs of
residential occupants and clinic users, resulting in a balanced and user-friendly architectural solution.
