Talakag National High
School hired new teachers and
borrowed another six elementary
teachers from different schools
because, when the pandemic
swept the globe, a new problem
emerged as the number of en-
rollees at TNHS outnumbered
their facilities and faculties.
“I’m so happy because,
aside from the fact that this is a
DepEd school, I will again see
a new side of the world and a
new environment,” said Mrs. Ki-
eth C. Malaran, a former math-
ematics and DRRRM teacher
from Xavier de Kibangay High
School. She shares the same
testament with the other new
teachers, Mrs. Mary Jenelyn U.
Gallentes, Mrs. Alma L. Hibon,
Ms. Trisha Mae S. Francisco,
Ms. Elizabeth Lanciola, and
Teacher Jay-Ann L. Ligpusan.

Because of the lack of
faculties and teachers and be-
cause there are a lot of enroll-
ees, TNHS had to hire newly
graduated teachers and borrow
teachers from different schools.
“At first, I was so scared
because the pathway is zig-
zag, but then after a long while,
when I met the people in Talak-
ag, especially when the teachers
and the principal warmly wel-
comed me, I found it amazing!”
Mrs. Lilian M. Agawin, a newly
hired teacher at TNHS, said in
an interview that she’s good and
content despite being nervous
at the beginning of her work.
The new teachers share
their happiness and great expe-
riences all through the process
and journey; however, the ele-
mentary school borrowed teach-
ers share a different perspective.

“I had no choice; I don’t
know how to decline; that’s why
I accepted the offer. I feel happy
and sad at the same time, but we’re
looking on the brighter side; at
least we experienced something
new,” Teacher 1 Lovely Jane B.
Dimakuta said in an interview.
“As for me, which is very
different from them, I feel happy
and content. Me, along with the
other two teachers, applied and
transferred here in our own accord,
unlike the other four, who were
involuntary,” said Mr. Avelino M.
Sechico Jr., one of the elementa-
ry teachers who was transferred
to TNHS in December 2022.

were happy and fine with being
transferred because it was ac-
tually their wish to teach high
school students. Meanwhile,
Ms. Leizel A. Perez from San
Isidro Elementary School, Ms.
Lovely Jane B. Dimakuta from
Santo Niño Elementary School,
and Mr. Rey S. Mapano Jr. from
San Antonio Elementary School
were displeased at first, saying
they had a hard time adjusting.
The sole reason they
were pulled out of their schools
was because their previous
schools were overstaffed while
TNHS was lacking teachers.
According to the pre-
vious TNHS principal, Sam-
uel B. Quijardo, TNHS was
short of nearly 60 teachers.
If asked if there are differ-
ences between teaching elementa-
ry and high school, they said there

were a lot, such as the student’s
attitude and class management.
“It was challenging and frus-
trating at first, but now that
we had already coped, I could
tell that everyone was already
happy,” Ms. Lizzel Mapa

The school may have
borrowed their time and rou-
tines, but they gladly lend them
their spirit. Mrs. Charisse Joy
S. Gamon, a Practical Research
sub-teacher from Lampanusan
National High School, brings
inspiration and support to stu-
dents by nurturing their cre-
ativity in textual imagination.
“It is a privilege, and I’m very
happy to be here because the
environment is very good and
the people are approachable, es-
pecially the teachers, students,
and all,” she said while smiling.
