If you’re just starting to explore new career possibilities, you may be wondering
what makes data such an exciting career pathway!
Data plays a huge part in your everyday life: from your social feeds, Netflix, and
Spotify homepages being perfectly curated to your interests, to your Fitbit helping
you reach your goals, to Google auto-completing your search before you’ve even
finished typing your question.
Whether it’s personalizing our experiences, cutting costs, optimizing workflows,
or solving problems, data is incredibly powerful. Knowing how to harness its power
is not only important for a successful business, but also to make you
a more empowered, informed user!
Employment growth in the data industry is expected to continue to grow over the
next decade as companies increasingly rely on data to make strategic decisions.
A 2019-2028 Trend Analysis from the Government of Canada reports that
employment growth for data analysts is projected to be one of the strongest among
all occupations, as rapid innovation in Canada continues along with the increasing
popularity of e-commerce and data analytics.
In other words, the data on data is clear - there has never been a better time to dive
into this industry!

What does a
Data Analyst do?
A Data Analyst collects, organizes, and draws meaningful conclusions from data
sets. A data set is any collection of data that relates to a certain subject, such as
past customer invoices, school test scores, demographic surveys, or government
budgets.
Data is everywhere, which means that a Data Analyst can work across a range of
industries, such as tech, marketing, healthcare, education, banking, and more - the
possibilities are endless!
A Data Analyst often begins their process with a question or a challenge that shapes
how they’ll approach their data collection and analysis. They may start by asking:
what stories do the numbers tell? These insights are typically used to help key
decision-makers in a company improve their products, processes, and marketing
strategies.
