PIPES & PIPING ITEMS

Part 1: For Pipes

Part 2: For Pipe Fittings & Flanges
APPENDIX 7TO TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
CONSTRUCTION OF FLOWLINE & ASSOCIATED WORKS FOR EXPLORATORY &
JURASSIC WELLS AT NORTH KUWAIT AREA

PART-1

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR FERRITIC STEEL PIPES AND

PIPING ITEMS IN SOUR SERVICE

A. GENERAL

1. Line pipe shall meet the requirements of KOC-MS-001 Pt.1 Rev-2 (Line Pipe for Sour Service).

2. Pipes shall be ordered as seamless to API 5L Grade B PSL2, and shall comply with NACE MR-0175
/ ISO15156 latest edition and KOC- MP-018. X grades up to X52, PSL2 may be considered in special
cases at KOC discretion to limit wall thickness

3. Where welded pipe is required, it shall be electric fusion welded. Neither electric resistance nor
electric induction welded pipe shall be used in sour service.

PART-2
MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SOUR SERVICE

FERRITIC STEEL PIPE FITTINGS AND FLANGES

A) GENERAL
Incorporate the following comments against general requirements for Pipe fittings & Flanges:

1. All fittings and flanges for sour service shall meet the requirements of NACE MR0175/ ISO
15156 and as supplemented below.

2. Fittings shall be ordered as seamless for sizes up to NPS 24 (irrespective of whether line piping is
seamless or welded).

3. Butt weld tees and extruded outlet headers in API-5L Gr.B / X 52 (as applicable) shall be ordered
to ASME B16.9 with material to ASTM A 234 WPB / ASTM A 860 WPHY 52. Forged fittings
and flanges shall be ASTM A105 / ASTM A 694 F 52.

4. Elbows, reducers, caps and other butt-welding fittings for lines in API-5L Gr.B / X 52 (as
applicable) shall be ordered to ASME B16.9 or B16.28 with material to ASTM A234 Gr.WPB /
ASTM A 860 WPHY 52. Forged fittings and flanges shall be ASTM A105 / ASTM A 694 F 52.

5. All in-line fittings for API5L-X 52 grade lines shall be ordered to the corresponding grade of
MSS-SP-75 with material to ASTM A860 WPHY 52. Butt welding flanges shall be to the
corresponding grade of MSS-SP-44 with material to ASTM A694 F52. Blind Flanges may be
ASTM A105.

6. Small fittings and flanges for connections to X-grade pipelines may alternatively be ordered to
ASME B16.9 or ASME B16.5 with material to as (4) above.

7. Where the supplementary requirements of HIC / SWC testing of materials then the following
applies: -

a) A coupon from the thinnest section used from each heat shall be tested in accordance with
NACE TM0284 with exposure to solution “A”.
b) Specimens may be taken at supplier’s option from plate per Section 5 of NACE TM0284 or
per Section 4 from a “mother” pipe or a finished fitting.
c) Acceptance criteria shall be as follows: -
Crack Length Ration (CLR): not to exceed 15%
Crack Thickness Ration (CTR): not to exceed 5%
Crack Sensitivity Ratio (CSR): not to exceed 1.5% (5% if all cracks are within the centre
segregation zone and there is no crack face separation >0.1 mm).

Note:
 Above criteria shall apply to average ratios for 3 examined sections from one specimen.
 All cracks with any part lying 1 mm below the test surfaces are discarded from the
calculation.
 If subdivided specimens staggered over the thickness of heavy wall materials are used, all
cracks within each set of specimens covering the full wall thickness shall be considered
to be cumulative and CLR, CSR and CTR values shall be evaluated as for one full size
specimen.
 It should be noted that CTR and CSR are thickness dependent measures. Higher
acceptance criteria may be appropriate for thin sections, e.g. < 8mm.

7.1Flanges, Anchor Flanges and Forged Fittings (Carbon Steel)

a) Forgings shall be fully killed, fine grained and shall be supplied in normalized condition.

b) The chemical analysis shall be in accordance with the applicable product standard with
the following limitations,
C - 0.25% Max
S - 0.025% Max
P - 0.025% Max
Carbon Equivalent - 0.38% Max (IIW Formula)

c) HIC Testing is not required.

7.2 Seamless Wrought Fittings (Carbon Steel)

a) Fittings shall be fully killed and fine grained, shall be supplied in normalized or
normalized & tempered or quenched & tempered condition.

b) The chemical analysis shall be in accordance with the applicable product standard with
the following limitations,
C - 0.18% Max
S - 0.01% Max
