Obedience = specific type of social influence where an individual folllows the rules or orders given by
an authority figure

GAD hypothesis = “Germans are different” Milgram disagreed that the holocaust happened because
of this hypothesis, believed it was an over simplification.

Research methods = observational , correlations, interviews, questionnaires, field, lab

Independent variable = should have been nationality, to prove GAD hypothesis to be wrong
Once he saw how obedient the Americans were to kill a person, he no longer had to test Germans to
compare.

Issues and debate = If used questionnaire to study obedience, participants may have guessed aim of
study. Instead used deception so participants didn’t know what was being measured.
