Installation and connections
Before use
The figure shows an example of when you have connected all the
speakers it is possible to connect to this system. Obtain any extra
speakers to suit your needs.

surround sound on DVDs.

Center, surround and subwoofer speakers are not included.

If you purchase different speaker system, ensure the speakers have

Television settings
The menu language has been factory preset to English. You can
change the language by going to Display–Menu Language
(a pages 41–42).

The play indicator flashes to indicate that the resume function is

Using the resume function to restart play
While the play indicator is flashing, press [q].
Play starts from where it was stopped.
If you are playing DVD, you can activate the CHAPTER REVIEW
function while the message, “Press PLAY to Chapter Review” is
shown on your television. This message appears for a few seconds
before play is resumed.
Press [q] while this message is shown on your television and the
beginning portions of each chapter up to the current one are played.
Full play resumes from the point play was stopped at.
CHAPTER REVIEW is not possible with some DVD.
Note
¡Resume is canceled if you open the disc tray or change the play
mode (RANDOM a page 24 and PROGRAM a page 25).
¡Resume does not work if the disc’s play time is not displayed.
¡The position is saved even if the unit is turned off.

Dolby Digital
This is a method of coding digital signals developed by Dolby
Laboratories. The signals are highly compressed, enabling a large

This is the number of samples of sound taken per second during
conversion to a digital signal. Sampling frequency is expressed in
kilohertz (kHz). A high sampling frequency results in a sound close
to the original when played back.

Before requesting service, make the below checks. If you can’t fix the system as described below, or if something not listed here occurs, refer to

No power. Ensure the AC mains lead and flat cables are connected correctly. i !0
No sound. Turn the volume up.
The speaker cords may be shorted. Turn the unit off, check and correct the connections and turn the

No sound or distorted sound. Check all connections.

Noise is heard. Separate the AC mains lead from the surround cable. The unit’s other cords should also be kept
away from AC mains leads, fluorescent lights and other appliances.

The clock isn’t displayed. The clock is displayed for about five seconds when you press [CLOCK/TIMER]. !4
Cannot adjust the bass or treble. You cannot adjust the tone while CINEMA BASS or VGCA is on. Turn them off. #6
The timers don’t work. The play and record timers do not work if the unit is on. #8 #9
Ensure the indicator for the timer is on before you turn the unit off.
