Art Journaling
Art Journaling
Hi! I’m Amy from Mindful Art Studio. Thanks so much for joining me today for the Creative Art
Journaling Collage workshop!
I am so excited to be offering you these techniques on collaging in your art journal. I love to
make my art journal an “anything goes” kind of space. It takes my best work, my most messy
scribbles, and everything in between. I’m excited to share with you about how I work so you can
use some ideas for your own art journaling practice.
This workshop is about creating a space where our inner critic can relax, and be assured that it’s
okay to play and experiment. That’s what teaching art journaling is about for me - helping you
find a prescription for paying attention to and experimenting with what you create.
I want to invite you to begin creating in a new context - one that is warm, playful, and
welcoming of all experiments, whether you like them or not. I’m a big fan of giving folks ways
to create that are highly creative and original. Templates are a great starting place, but I believe
we all have highly original, creative images that want to emerge. I love helping people to coax
out their unique creations and expressions. Thanks for allowing me to come along on your
journey.
Creatively Yours,
Amy

BACKGROUND IDEAS
*This is also useful for altering pages that have a pattern and don’t quite feel like they
are working. Again - this is part of working in stages!
Magic Writing
1. Using a white gel pen or paint pen, write what you are feeling on a blank white page
with a gel pen or paint pen.
2. Once the writing is dry, brush over it with watered down acrylic or high flow acrylic
paint, and watch the words appear!
3. Options: Brush over the whole page, or create dots, lines, or other patterns in paint
so that some words show and others don’t.
Not sure what kinds of patterns you’d like to make? My Pattern Play retreat can help
you dig into a treasure trove of original marks and patterns.
My hole punch is one of my best friends in my studio. I love the way that punching
holes in my work offers me so many opportunities to be creative. Often I create
something that has potential, but isn’t quite right. Punching out 2 -inch circles from it is
a great way to use bits of my art for collage in my journal.
