Attention
Personal injury or property damage due to improper operation
Observe the following safety instructions.
Personal injury or property damage due to equipment modifications that
could jeopardize safety
No modifications may be made to this device without the permission
of the manufacturer.
Patient environment is the area where patients can come into contact
with any part of a medical electrical equipment (ME equipment) or with
another person being in contact with the ME equipment.
In the patient environment, use devices that conform to IEC 60601-
1. If a multiple power socket is to be used, or if a device is to be used
that
does not meet the IEC 60601-1 standard, use an isolating
transformer.
Attention
Risk of personal injury or damage to property due to an incorrect level of
safety
Connecting the ImageCam® 3 with its non-medical electrical equipment
(e.g. data processing equipment) to a medical electrical system must not
result in a patient safety level below that prescribed by DIN EN ISO
60601-1. If making this connection leads to the leakage current threshold
being exceeded, protective measures including a circuit breaker must be
in place.
Ensure that connections with non-medical devices are made
correctly.
Use only a computer that meets the specifications given in this
instruction manual, sect. 18, page 64.
Attention
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC / Cables)
Risk of personal injury or damage to property due to electromagnetic
interference
Portable and mobile HF communications appliances (high frequency) can
affect medical, electric equipment.
Make sure that portable and mobile RF communications equipment
do not cause interference.
Recommendation: Maintain a minimum distance of 4 m. If the
distance is shorter, you must ensure that the ImageCam® 3
functions correctly.
Cybersecurity
Do not use the ImageCam® 3 with wireless technology, for example with
☞
wireless USB.
To ensure cyber security in order to the usage of the device, the following
security measures should be considered. Contact your computer
administrator:
Note
Also observe the regulations, notes and recommendations of the
Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik for the protection of
critical infrastructures.
5 Intended Use
The ImageCam® 3 system is intended for the use described in this
operating manual.
It is used to capture, process and archive images and video sequences of
the slit lamp examination.
Make sure that the device is only be used by personnel, who, due to their
training or their knowledge and practical experience, can guarantee
proper handling of the device.
Heed the safety instructions listed above.

7 First-time Operation
Before you put the ImageCam® 3 into operation for the first time, you
must first
have it installed and set up
have the beam splitter and camera hardware mounted
connect the foot switch, if necessary sect. 8.2, page 10
Attention
Risk of incorrect values/equipment damage due to improper setup
Please note that the ImageCam® 3 must be set up, connected and
instructed by our Service Department or by an authorized OCULUS
technician prior to initial use.
Note

The menu bar shows the magnifications that are available on your slit
lamp. If you want to identify lengths in the images later, the selected
optical magnification of the slit lamp must be known.
Select the magnification that you will be using for the image
capture.
This information is saved together with the image and the correct
calibration for the according tool will be used when identifying
lengths. You can set the magnification/zoom that you use most as a
default setting.
Click the right mouse button.
The following is displayed:
Press this button to set the zoom factor as the standard or default
setting.
Every time the image capture / camera window is opened, the zoom that
has been set as the standard or default value is now pre-defined.
Settings that relate to the quality of the image are saved in an exposure
programme.
You can choose various pre-set image capture parameters with the
exposure programmes. You can save any number of configurations,
sect. 9.3.5, page 21.
The light conditions in the examination room can be very different. The
light spectrum, i.e. the colour of the slit lamp illumination, also depends
on many factors. To capture an image/video in colour, the white balances
should be adjusted:
After installation of the ImageCam® 3
Whenever the colour fidelity is not good
Adjust the white balance separately for every configured exposure
programme, “Use Shortcut to Select an Exposure Programme” on
page 16
Then save the white balance for the respective configuration.
To achieve the best possible image quality, OCULUS has pre-set the
camera parameters for common image capture situations and has saved
them as exposure programmes. You can edit these settings, sect. 9.3.2,
page 16.
You can then save the edited settings as your own exposure programme,
sect. 9.3.5, page 21 or sect. 9.3.6, page 22.
The following exposure programmes have been pre-set:
If you are not satisfied with the image quality, you can optimise the
☞
images using the pre-settings; also see sect. 10.6, page 26.
1 Resolution 3 Gain
2 Exposure 4 Gamma value
Fig. 9-11: ImageCam® 3 image window
If you want to record and send an email or a longer video sequence, the
☞
lower resolution has a lesser data volume and gives a smoother video.
The longer the exposure time is, the brighter the image will be. The image
can, however, become less sharp as a result caused by motion blur.
Change the exposure time with the slide control (2).
Change Gain
The image also gets brighter if you increase the gain. However, the image
quality suffers as a result; too much gain results in grainy images.
Change the gain with the slide control (3).
You can correct the gamma by changing the gamma value. In other
words, the colour values (or grey values) between 0 (black) and 1 (white)
can be increased or lowered to achieve an optimal presentation. With the
help of the gamma correction, you can influence, for example:
How pronounced the vessels in the sclera are shown.
How bright the areas outside of the slit illumination are shown.
How intensive the colour saturation of the image is.
Change the gamma value with the slide control (4).
If the gamma value is too high, image noise can occur in the dark
☞
areas.
If you want to take lenghts or angles in the image later, select the
magnification that you are using for the image capture, sect. 9.3.1,
page 15.
To do this, press the button or 5x, 8x, 12,5x, 20x, 32x.
Press and hold down the foot switch for the duration of that you
want to record the video.
To end the recording, take your foot off the foot switch, or
press the [ ] button.
The video recording appears highlighted in green in the thumbnail
preview on the overview screen.
The images / videos are listed in the Patient Data Management under
“Existing examinations”.

The beam splitter optic couples out the light for the video recording from
one of the two beam paths.
The respective beam path thus loses brightness. The beam splitter optic
can therefore be swung out when no recording is being made.
To do this, actuate the lever (1).
“IN” = Beam splitter lens swivelled in, ready for capturing images or
recording videos.
The rotary knob (1) is used to adjust the shutter of the objective lens. The
depth of focus of the image can thus be changed. Turn the knob clockwise
to open the shutter and let more light into the camera. The depth of focus
simultaneously decreases.
