Allah, to perform the prayers, to pay the Zakat, to fast in Ramadan, and
to make the pilgrimage, to the House if you are able to do so’. He said;
"You have spoken rightly, and we were amazed at his asking him and
saying that he the Prophet had spoken rightly. He said; “Then tell me

His Messengers, and the Last Day, and to believe in divine destiny, both
the good and the evil thereof.’ He said: You have spoken rightly. He
said; ‘Then tell me about Ihsan.’ He said; ‘It is to worship Allah as
though you are seeing Him, and while you see Him not, yet truly He sees
you.” He said; ‘Then tell me about the Hour.’ He said; ‘The one

Happiness of the inhabitants of Paradise :
(Verses 55-58) r
55. Surely the companions of Paradise that day will be busy in their
rejoicing.
56. They and their spouses will recline on couches in the shade. .
57. For them will be fruits and whatever they ask for.
58. ‘Peace’ shall be the word from the Merciful Sustainer. _

We now have the description of the bliss to be enjoyed by the inhabitants
of Paradise. Their joy in the Garden will be an active joy; without
fatigue; whatever they do in it will be a source of joy. They shall have
whatever they call for. They will reach the highest grade of bliss - Peace
from Allah the Most Merciful.
Damnation and humiliation for the deniers of Truth :
(Verse 59)
59. O Sinners, Separate yourselves this day.
The Sinners who deliberately and persistently rejected Guidance will be
isolated. Just as they had been companions in sins. and evil during their
earthly life, they will remain companions in After-life as well. The Day of
Judgement will be a day of separation, a day of sorting out for them.
They will no longer have the choice of living with the Blessed. Their
ever-lasting abode will be Hell.
Reproach and Reminder :
(Verses 60-62)
60. Did I not commit you, O Children of Adam, not to worship Satan
who is your open enemy.
61. And to worship Me; this being the Straight Path?
62. But he led astray a great many of you. Why did you not then
understand?
There is a sorrowful reproach to wrong-doers in these Verses. They are
addressed as children of Adam. They disgraced their ancestry. Allah the
Most Merciful sent His Prophets to them in succession, in order to warn
them against the snares of Satan. His Grace was ever on the watch to
help them to freedom from those snares. The straight Path was shown to
them, but they paid no heed. They were given the understanding so that
by their own faculties they could have judged their own best interests.
Yet they misused those faculties and deliberately threw away their
chances.
Permanent dwelling in Hell
(Verses 63-65)
63. This, then, is the Hell you were promised.
64. Roast well in it today for having disbelieved.
65. We shall seal their mouths that day, their hands will speak to Us, and
their feet testify for what they had been doing.

The unbelievers deliberately rejected all teaching, guidance, and
warnings. They are now told to experience the Fire of Punishment, for it
. is but the outcome of their own acts. The ungodly will now be dumb.
founded. They will be unable to excuse or defend their past actions and
attitudes. But their silence will not matter. Their own hands and feet will
speak against them.
An admonition and a warning :
(Verses 66-67)
66. Had it been Our will, We would have destroyed their eyes, then they
would struggle for the path, but how would they see?
67. Had it been Our will, We would have changed them in their places.
Then they should have been unable to move forward, nor could they
have turned back.
The unbelievers deliberately deny the Truth. Allah has given them eyes,
He has also granted them the faculties of speech and intelligence. He has
equipped them with the ability to distinguish good from evil and right
from wrong. It is Allah's Will and Mercy that they should be given such
abilities. But by no means are they eager to use their eyes and their
abilities to seek after the Truth. These Verses warn them that there is still
time for them for correction. Everything is possible with Allah. If He
wills, He could take away their sight, then they would run about to find
their way. He could transmute them or paralyse them in their seats, and
they would not be able to move forward or tum back. But Allah is All- '
Merciful. He has given them respite; He gives them opportunity to
correct themselves.
This Worldly life is transient :
(Verse 68)
68. If We grant long life to any, We reverse him in creation; do they not
understand?
This connects on with the last Verse. Everything is possible with Allah. If
they doubt how man can be transformed from his present nature, they
should consider the transformation they undergo during their present
life. In childhood man’s powers of mind and body are still undeveloped. °
As he grows, they grow. In extreme old age these are obscured, and a
second childhood begins. The back of man who walked proudly straight
and erect is now bent. In some cases, he lives so long that he falls into a
feeble old age like a second childhood, he forgets what he learnt and

seems almost to go back in time. Is not all this an evidence of the power
of Allah? If these transformations take place in his present nature and
constitution, how much easier is it for Allah to cast him into a new
mould? The time at man’s disposal is short. He should make the most of
it. He should review his present life and prepare for the After-life. This
world is transient, the life to come is eternal.
Allah’s Messenger plug alc ai! jie was not a poet :
(Verses 69-70)
69. And We have not taught him poetry, it is not seemly for him. It is
only a Remembrance and a clear Qur'an.

whom who do not believe.

71. Do they not see the-cattle, which they own how We have created
them with Our hands?
72. Whom we made submissive to them, that they may ride some and eat
the others.
73. And they derive other advantages and drink from them. Will they
not, then, be grateful?
The Qur’an argues that if they are blind to other Signs of Allah, they can
at least see the simple homely things of life in which they receive so many
benefits from Allah’s Mercy. How is it that wild animals can be
domesticated, and in domestication can be so useful to man? Man can
use them for riding, he can use their flesh for food and drink their milk;
he can use their hair or wool. The whole argument turns on this. We
confer all these blessings on you, and yet you turn away from the Giver
of all, and run after your own imaginations.’
