01 Draw two activities a robot could do for you at school.
Alexa
Robots must make our lives
better. They can use your credit
card number and buy things for
you. Alexa, a robot created by
Amazon, can do that. It can use
the account in your bank to do your
shopping. Alexa is an example of artificial
intelligence. It is a “clever” robot because it can do
many things for you.
02 Read the text “Alexa.” Write two obligations and
two prohibitions for robots. Robots mustn’t do an activity without human
guidance. They must protect humans and make sure
their activities are safe. A robot could answer your
telephone calls or carry your boxes. A world with
bad robots can be terrible, but good robots can be
excellent additions to our lives.

Apps Catalog

Every time you search for a new app, a list is displayed for you
to decide which one you want. Now it is your time to create
your own Apps Catalog. The idea is for you to create a catalog
in which you provide information about certain apps.

First, make a list of which apps you find interesting and would
like to share with the rest of your class. Also, write down some
rules people need to know about the use of apps. These rules
will help you create a poster later.

Additionally, you need to create a device to put your poster on

for an exhibition. Think of a flip chart or something similar. Use
recycled material for this project.

A2 Key – Reading and Writing – Part 2

For questions 1 to 7, circle the correct answer.

Manuela Carlos Erika

1 Who uses AI in their everyday life? A B C

2 Who says AI can work like the human mind? A B C

3 Who is optimistic about the future of AI? A B C

4 Who works with AI to entertain humans? A B C

5 Who is surprised about the work AI does? A B C

6 Who believes AI should be watched? A B C

7 Who describes the routine AI follows? A B C

116 Lesson 4
Manuela
I’m very proud to be working on Shelley, the first artificial intelligence that can write horror stories
together with humans. It uses technology based on deep learning. This is the ability of the AI to learn
by itself. This technology copies the way the human brain works, and its neural connections. Experts
intend to show Shelley’s ability to induce feelings – in this case, fear.

Carlos
I just bought one of those robots that goes around your house sweeping, mopping, and emitting
fragrance. It smells delicious. In its first tour, the robot recognized everything and remembered exactly
where the furniture was. Then, I set a work schedule. It is amazing to see how it gets around the
house. Through sensors, it corrects its course when it finds a piece of furniture that is out of place. It
supervises that the work is done well, and makes a second pass when necessary.

Erika
I am sure that AI will bring us benefits in all areas of our lives. There is a high chance that AI systems
will become aware in the future, but I don’t think that they will be a problem for human life as some
specialists believe. We must be sure that technology will behave in a safe way and according to our
goals. Even in unexpected situations, we must always keep an eye on its evolution and potential risks.

N YOU USE AI TO HELP OTHERS?

HOW CA

For this part of the test, you need to match

three short texts about the same topic to seven
questions. This tests your ability to find specific
information in a text and understand details.

1. Read the questions and underline key words to

help you remember them.
2. Read the first text and answer as many questions
as you can with that information. There are usually
two or three questions per text.
3. If there is a text that probably matches the same
question again, read carefully and make a good
choice.

It is not a good strategy to read each text seven times.

It is better to read the questions as many times as
you need. Find evidence in the text and underline it to
justify your answers.
