Project Summary

The EMJM in Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management (CoMEM+) is a unique international 2-year MSc
programme with European Mobility comprising a minimum of 120 ECTS. It is jointly offered by five leading
European universities: 1) Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway; 2) Caen Institute of
Civil Engineering and Construction (ESITC), France; 3) Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Spain; 4)
University of Caen Normandy (UNICAEN), France; and 5) University of Genova (UNIGE), Italy. There is a
common first semester at NTNU in Norway, and thereafter students spend two semesters at two different partner
institutions before they return to write their master theses at one of the institutions they visited. There are three
distinct tracks: 1) Future Ports and Waterways; 2) Coastal Environmental Engineering; and 3) Shore
management. These tracks offer unique competences and build on the complementary strengths of the partners’
local Master programmes. Students will study key issues that focus on sustainable, environmentally friendly,
legally, and economically acceptable solutions for the multiple challenges relevant to the CoMEM+ field. The
programme’s mobility offers the opportunity to gain unique experience of geographically diverse coastal and
marine environments and issues. Knowledge will be acquired on the most advanced tools and techniques
appropriate for the present and future challenges in CoMEM+ field. The aim of CoMEM+ is to address these
challenges and provide highly qualified engineers trained across Europe’s top institutions. Applicants must hold a
university BSc degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering or Environmental
Engineering (must have at least 30 ECTS within the fields of mathematics/statistics). Students who successfully
complete the programme will be awarded a joint master’s degree, subject to ratification before 2023.
