CIVILIZATIONS

Trenches: This culture developed in northern Sonora between 750 B.C. and
1450 AD. It is characterized by the construction of complex irrigation systems
and agricultural terraces. The trenches were also known for their pottery and
shell artifacts.
Cochimí: This indigenous group lived in the northwest region of Mexico, including
areas of Sonora and Baja California. Although they did not form a highly complex
civilization, the Cochimí were hunter-gatherers who adapted to desert and coastal
conditions.
Yumans: The Yumans are a group of indigenous people found in the
southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico, including parts of
Sonora. They were hunter-gatherers and farmers who adapted to various
environmental conditions.
Mayos: The Mayo ethnic group is one of the most prominent in the Sonora region.
Although they did not historically form an ancient civilization, the Mayos have had a
significant presence in the region and have preserved their traditions and culture
over time.
