USE OF THE
OCTA-SLIDE 2 VIEWER

PROCEDURE
NOTE: The Chlorine/Bromine Octa-Slide 2 Bar supplied with this kit gives both chlorine and
bromine readings. The values for chlorine appear next to each color standard in black and
the values for bromine appear next to each color standard in blue.

FREE AVAILABLE CHLORINE

1. Insert the Chlorine/Bromine Octa-Slide 2 Bar (2085-01) into the Octa-Slide 2 Viewer
(1101).
2. Fill a test tube (0106) to the 5 mL line with sample water.
3. Add one DPD 1R Tablet (6999A). Cap and mix until the tablet disintegrates.
4. Immediately insert the test tube into the Octa-Slide 2 Viewer.
5. Hold the Viewer so that non-direct light enters through the back. Match the sample
color to a color standard. Record the Chlorine value (in black) from the Octa-Slide 2 Bar.
Record as ppm Chlorine.

BROMINE
1. Insert the Chlorine/Bromine Octa-Slide 2 Bar (2085-01) into the Octa-Slide 2 Viewer
(1101).
2. Fill a test tube (0106) to the 5 mL line with sample water.
3. Add one DPD #1R Tablet (6999A). Cap and mix until the tablet disintegrates.
4. Immediately insert the test tube into the Octa-Slide 2 Viewer.
5. Hold the Viewer so that non-direct light enters through the back. Match the sample
color to a color standard. Record the Bromine value (in blue) from the Octa-Slide 2 Bar.
Record as ppm Bromine.

pH
1. Insert the Phenol Red Octa-Slide 2 Bar (3403-01) into the Octa-Slide 2 Viewer (1101).
2. Fill a test tube (0106) to the 10 mL line with sample water.
3. Add one Phenol Red Tablet (6915A). Cap and mix until the tablet disintegrates.
4. Insert the test tube into the Octa-Slide 2 Viewer.
5. Hold the Viewer so that non-direct light enters through the back. Match the sample
color to a color standard. Record as pH.
