Social Media is considered as the fastest
growing medium in the world. Twitter, Skype,
Facebook and Instagram are channels we find in
Social Media. We are progressing at very high
speed because of internet. It has a very strong
impact on human beings in the modern world.
People can easily give their comments on any issue
by just a click. It even influences someone to
change his/her perspective on something. Hence,
the question is “Is Social Media a friend or an
enemy?”
In a very easy way, one can find any
information from any part of the world with one
click. Students easily make their projects and
assignments just by consulting google. People
usually share their knowledge, skills and talents just
by posting their videos or images online. It can’t be
denied that social media gives outcomes in
everything one is working with in just a short span
of time. Social platforms have become part of the
day to day living of each individual.
The aforementioned are the facts about the
advantages social media can bring into someone’s
life. However, it is also a fact that social media have
disadvantages. There are even some points that
the disadvantages can outweigh its benefits if not
manage well.
Addiction, the most negative effect of social
media. There are times that we tend to use our
time ineffectively because we are addicted by just
scrolling and posting useless things on Facebook.
Yes, in fact, based on the broadband.search.net on
their study on the Average Time Spent Daily on
Social Media, it shows that from the 144 minutes
spent by each person in any social media sites in
2018, it increases to 153 minutes per day in the
current year. Therefore, one can be social media
active for almost three hours a day. According to
Common Sense Media in their study, teens spend
an average of nine hours a day online, which is a
worst scenario. Teens specifically are addicted to
social media. This addiction results to lack of sleep.
Which could also end up to health problems. If one
keeps on spending most of his/her time just by
sitting down and scrolling the different social media
platforms he/she loses his/her time for physical

MNHS joins Brigada Eskwela 2019
Mantacida National High School once again
participated in the Annual Brigada Eskwela 2019.
The one week activity kicked off on May 20 and
ended on May 25, 2019.
The one-week activity started off with an
opening program which centered on the theme,
“Pagkakaisa para sa Handa, Ligtas at Matatag na
Paaralan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan.”
Mrs. Marina M. Ejoc, the school principal,
welcomed and thanked everyone who were there
activities this could lead to being weak. Third,
disadvantage of social media especially on
Facebook is misinformation. It is a mere fact that
many individuals are misinformed with some
information posted on Facebook. Fake news has
been spreading online and we must not be
overwhelm with this information because this
could sometimes mislead us.
Mentioned above are just few of the
advantages and disadvantages of social media that
can prove that it can be both a friend and an
enemy. It’s up to us on how we handle it. But take
note anything can be a friend if one knows how to
handle it.

Mr. & Ms. Fresh Faces highlights Acquaintance Party 2019

as the Mr. & Ms. Fresh Faces 2019 during the
Acquaintance Party and Induction Ceremony held
on July 10, 2019 at the MNHS Activity Center.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Marina M. Ejoc, the school
principal gave her message and she was all praised
to the teachers and students for creating such a
memorable acquaintance party. Thereafter, the
members of the MNHS cover band rendered a song
which caught the attention of the audience. After

Female teachers, wearing their cowgirl attires
excited the audience as they showed their dancing
skills. The male teachers, on the other hand,
showed their very unique presentation which made
the audience laugh.
The closing remarks from the PTA president,
Mrs. Helen C. Laurente concluded the event. The
said program was made creative and successful
because of the collaborative efforts of the teachers
and students

Nutrition Month concludes

MNHS once again took part on the annual
celebration of the Nutrition Month on July 26, 2019
at the MNHS Multi-purpose Hall. A mass
spearheaded by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Mark
Caballo kicked off the event. After the mass,
everyone was busy preparing their different
products for the next activity, the Food Bazaar. At
exactly 11 o’clock, the Food Bazaar was opened.
Tables full of fruits, vegetables and varieties of food
were organized by the different grade levels. At
1:30 in the afternoon, the Food Bazaar was
officially closed to give time to the judges to
tabulate and decide for the winners.

the presentations. Winners for the Wellness Dance
Contest were; Grade 9-Magnolia- 3rd Place, Grade
12-GAS- 2nd Place and Grade 11-GAS- emerged as
the 1st Placer. On the other hand, the Grade 11 won
the Food Bazaar. Both the Food Bazaar and the
Wellness Dance Contest were aligned with the
theme, “Kumain ng wasto, at maging aktibo, Push
natin to.”
The event ended successfully. Thanks to the
efforts of the students and the MAPEH teachers as
well.

the sections from Grade 7 to Grade 12. The
presenters were judged by Mrs. Lina Rivero, Ms.
Hazel Jumamoy and Mr. Eldren Suaybaguio. The

Intramurals ’19 celebration held
Once again, MNHS held the Intramurals last August
9-10, 2019 at the MNHS plaza which hinged on the
theme, “Strengthening the spirit of camaraderie
through sports activities.”
It kicked off with a parade which paved the
way from the Mantacida Barangay Hall to
Mantacida National High School with four
competing teams: Dagohoy, Lapu-lapu, Rizal and
Sikatuna. Afterwards was the opening program held
at MNHS plaza. The excitement intensified as the
muses and escorts raised their delegation flags.
Sportsmanship sparked when Jelyn Pojadas lighted
the ceremonial torch. The Oath of Amateurism was
led by Althea Jean Sotomayor. Then, everyone
witnessed the Search for Mr. and Miss Intrams as
they ramped for their respective teams. Mr. Gideon
Empiales and Miss Jem Simonette Hicale were
crowned as Mr. & Miss Intrams 2019.
Mrs. Marina M. Ejoc, the school principal,
officially declared Intramurals 2019 open. The
students’ energy was still on its climax during the
start of the different games until its very end.
Fortunately, __________ basked with glory as being
declared as the champion.
Intramurals is indeed an integral part of a
student’s education. It is an avenue that tests one’s
perseverance, determination and ability to work
harmoniously with one another. And win or lose,
every single player is a champion in his/her own
right.

Kada-Agosto ng bawat taon ay idinadaos ang
Buwan ng Wika bilang pag-alala sa kahalagahan ng
ating pambansang wikang Filipino. Bilang panapos
na palatuntunan at bukambibig ng lahat, ang
Lakambini at Lakandula 2019, ang pinakamakulay
na patimpalak na naganap sa taunang selebrasyon
ng Buwan ng Wika na siyang
pinaghandaan ng Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral sa
Filipino (SAMAFIL) na pinangasiwaan ni Bb. Diane
Pongase. Ang bawat baiting ay pumili nga kanilang
dalawang pares na nagrepresenta ng kanilang
seksyon.
Ang nasabing pagdiriwang ay sinimulan ng
isang pambungad na mensahe mula kay Gng. Shiela
C. Comamao. Ipinahayag naman ni Gng. Norma
Labrador ang layunin ng nasabing pagdiriwang. Siya
rin ang nagpaalala sa kasaysayan at kahalagahan ng
ating wikang pambansa. Pagkatapos ay ipinakilala
ang mga hurado na siyang pumili kung sino ang
karapat-dapat sa titulo. Binasa rin ang kriterya na
siyang pagbabasehan sa nasabing kumpetisyon.
Hindi rin nawala ang mga presentasyon
mula sa bawat baiting na siyang nagbigay buhay at
aliw sa mga manunuod. Hiyawan at titian ang
maririnig sa buong bulwagan. Ibinada rin ang mga
nanalo sa linggohang patimpalak gaya ng
patimpalak sa tula, slogan at poster-making at
interpretatibong pagbasa. Pinakahihintay ng lahat
ang pag-anunsiyo ng mga nagwagi. Lahat ay di
mapakali at sabik na makilala ang bagong lakambini
at lakandula. Hinirang na Lakambini at Lakandula
2019 si Bb. Riza Mae Jaum at G. Raymond Malang.

MNHS celebrates 15th Foundation Day

“When the going gets tough, then the tough gets going,” stressed by Hon. Lucille Lagunay, board
member 1st Congressional District, during her
message on the 15th Foundation last Sept. 12, 2019
at MNHS Multipurpose Hall which hinged the
theme “Sustaining Excellence in all Challenges.”
The presence of the Provincial Officials, SB
Members, previous administrators and founders
added prestige and honor to the said event. It
started with an invocation led by Mr. Jared Baguio
followed by the singing of hymns with Mrs. Norma
I. Labrador, conducting.

gave her words of welcome. Afterwards, Mrs.
Elizabeth A. Suganob read the MNHS historical
background. Thereafter, souvenirs and certificates
were given to the founders, previous administrators
Teachers’ Got Talent highlights teacher’s Day Celebration
On October 4, 2019, Mantacida National
High School celebrated the Teacher’s Day. Students,
teachers and parents gathered at the MNHS
Multipurpose Hall for a program organized by the
Supreme Student Government (SSG) which
highlighted the teachers’ talents. Teachers acted as
presenters while the students and the parents
served as the audience.

showcased their different talents. Mrs. Helen C.
Laurente, PTA president, ended the first part with a
closing remarks. Pista sa Nayon followed and
everyone took their lunch in their respective
classrooms. Various games participated by the
parents, students and teachers were done after the
sumptuous lunch.
The event was attributed to the MNHS
teachers headed by Mrs. Marina M. Ejoc, PTA
Officers, SSG, Girl & Boy Scouts, supportive parents,
students, provincial, municipal and barangay
officials.
For the program to formally start, Lileth
Janohan, the SSG president, gave her words of
welcome. While the teachers were still preparing
for their different presentations, the emcee
randomly selected the groups who will be
showcasing their talents first. The first presenters
were Ma’am Rivero, Ma’am Abarquez and Ma’am
Omamalin. Everyone was in awe upon witnessing
their puppet show. Then, a unique fashion show
participated by the SHS teachers and few JHS
teachers featuring the different cardigans from
Ma’am Ejoc’s collection followed. It was indeed a
very entertaining presentation. Thereafter, a dance
presentation from another group of presenters
brought the audience on the groove. The last
presenters were the male teachers clad with
swimming outfits creatively showing the different
swimming strokes. Right after all the presentations,
Culminating Activities showcase seniors’ talents

MNHS seniors once again showed their different
talents and skills in different areas during their
Culminating Activities on March 10, 2020 as they
were about to end another school year. Booths
were displayed by the senior students which
showcased their outputs for the whole year. A lot
of activities were also prepared for that day.
The first activity which highlighted the one-
day event was the Miss Trashion Show 2020 which
is part of their curriculum in Understanding Culture,
Society and Politics. Twenty-eight ladies from Grade
Mrs. Marina M. Ejoc, the school principal, gave her
inspirational message. She also thanked the
teachers for their active participation during the
program.
The big success of the MNHS teacher’s day
was made possible through the collaborative
efforts of the SSG officers, students and the
teachers.
11-GAS and TVL-AFA ladies conquered their stage
fear as they showed their talent and skill in
modeling for them to be hailed as Miss Trashion
Show 2020. Together with the singing diva, Jem
Simonette Hicale, the lovely ladies flared up the
stage as they dazzle the whole activity center in
their production number.
The activity was hosted by the very vibrant,
Mr. Eldren Suaybaguio. To determine the winners
Mrs. Shiela C. Comamao, Mrs. Lina G. Rivero and
Ms. Kathleen Joyce Cano, teachers from the junior
high school department were invited.
It was indeed a parade of beauties as the
ladies ramped off the stage and set it on fire as they
wore their originally-made costumes made from
recycled materials, representing different countries.
Fifteen out of the twenty-eight candidates
competed for the second round. Question about
why they should be hailed as the Miss Trashion
Show was asked to all the ladies
To exhilarate the crowd more, set of minor
and major awards were given to which Miss
Bahamas-Kyleen Cabodbod presented the most
artistic costume and won the Best in Style, Miss
Norway-Jennie Caṅete, who portrayed the real
Norwegian attire won the favor as Best in National
Costume. The candidate who had shown grace in
the production number was Miss South Korea-
Chriza Jane Villamero. The candidate who
unleashed her wit in the final question and answer
is Miss Costa Rica, Irish Pansoy, who won the Best
in Interview.
The crowd went extra wild as the top seven
were announced. Thunderous cheers covered the
activity center as the students supported their bets.
Right after was the proclamation of winners for
Miss Trashion Show: 6th runner-up, Miss Bulgaria-
Claudine Cainghog; 5th runner-up, Miss Czech
Republic-Shiena Lamoste; 4th runner-up, Miss
Japan-Joycefhe Delfino; 3rd runner-up, Miss
Bahamas-Kyleen Cabodbod; 2nd runner-up, Miss
Norway-Jennie Caṅete; 1st runner-up, Miss South
Korea-Chriza Jane Villamero and the crowned Miss
Trashion Show 2020 was Miss Costa Rica-Irish
Pansoy.
On the other hand, winners of the other
contests were Daen Sandy Patac for the Slow-Drag
(Science); 12-GAS for the most artistic booth; Grade
11-Math Sayaw (Statistics); Genevie Lamoste for
the Spelling Bee (English). This one of a kind activity
helps students to boost their confidence and
develop their hidden abilities in different fields.
The Culminating activity was made possible
through the combined efforts of the SHS teachers
and students.
Feature Article
A Special Role with a Special Responsibility

The common perception of most people is that
leaders are separated from followers; leaders are
thought to make big difference in this world with
their leadership skills while followers cannot take
the leadership role in any activities. Hence, this
makes people to think that they should aim to be
leaders than to be followers. But leaders are not
good leaders if they weren’t a follower. As Aristotle
once said “He who can’t be a good follower, can’t
be a good leader.” Leadership is not basically to
lead but comes with great responsibility. It is not
about the power but talks about empowerment.
Good leaders are followers as well; they are
thinking for the progress of all rather than the
progress of oneself.
To the Girl Scouts, leading is serving. This
kind of leadership puts others needs before the
leader herself, and this inspires others to do the
same. Leading is not only about having the
authority to lead or command its followers but to
serve together with its members. If a person learns
how to serve others then he knows how to lead
others and vice versa. The main point here is that
leading does not hold power and take advantage
with it but instead manage it by serving to others.
And everyone is given a chance to be a leader
whether it would be a man, woman, a student and
an advocate because everyone has the potential to
be one even with our own different ways.
Furthermore, as a Girl Scout it is our duty to
serve others and with this, we also help others to
lead not only the youth advocates but also the
whole community and society as well. In meeting
the duty to serve others and the nation, first we
will have programs that concern to the awareness
of the society’s problems such as environmental
and social issues. Then, with the help of every Girl
Scout, with the use of our skills and abilities we will
make a big difference towards our nation. Just like
our very own founder of the Girl Scouts of the
Philippines, Josefa Llanes Escoda, who trained
young women to become Girl Scout leaders and
also organized Girl Scout troops, she taught us how
to lead and to serve at the same time using our
skills and talents. And with this simple ways, hand
in hand, we serve to lead the community to have a
progressive way of living and with little but
great impact of steps, we may build a better nation
to achieve a better future for us and for the
forthcoming generations.
 Getting to know our mentor
Tough but soft-hearted. This is how this 25 year-old educator sees herself.
She might be projecting a strong personality but she has a heart to those people
(students) who have heartwarming stories in life. She is none other than Ma’am
Al Leiza Ladera Napiṅas.

Ma’am “Balag” or “Alai” as she is called by her close friends is a daughter

of Mr. & Mrs. Alfonso Napiṅas. She was born on January 22, 1995 and is currently residing at
Poblacion, Catigbian, Bohol. She took up Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics at
BISU (Main Campus) which paved her way to become a teacher.

“I do believe that life is a choice. Your choice makes you choose the path that you are planning
to take. I choose the teaching profession because of the idea of becoming an influencer and being able
to instill knowledge to students. Besides, I cannot see myself doing different jobs aside from teaching,”
Ma’am Alai said when she was asked if teaching was her choice.

Ma’am Alai may be new to MNHS but she has been in the academe for five years, since she
started her teaching journey right after graduating in college. Being transferred to this new workplace is
not so new to her because she already heard so much about the school and she appreciates its good
practices to make the environment clean and beautiful. Hence, seeing her advisory class taking their
responsibility in cleaning their assigned area is a good way to start her day in school. She also believes
that chit-chatting with her colleagues and exchanging good vibes is another way of making the long day
at work happy and inspiring. As for decision-making and dealing to students, she is always firm in what
she believes is right and she wants to focus on things that need to be prioritized.

Ma’am Alai may have achieved a lot of things but when asked about her achievements besides
being a teacher, she told me this, “I can’t say that I have accomplished something big that needs to be
recognized but I do have some bits of things that make me proud of myself. However, it is not too
impressive compared to other people’s achievements. Nevertheless, I am contented for what I have
and for what I become.” A very down to earth answer I have ever heard.
 When she encounters people who talk behind her back she always tells herself not to mind
them as long as she is not doing anything wrong because what matters to her is the opinion of the
people who are important to her. This is a good way of avoiding negativities in life.
