This Part of this standard, prepared under the direction of the Cement, Gypsum,
Aggregates and Quarry Products Standards Committee, is a revision of clause 3
of BS 1881-4:1970. Together with Parts 115, 116, 117, 118 and 119, this Part of
BS 1881 supersedes BS 1881-4:1970, which is withdrawn.

4 Test specimens
4.1 Size of cores. Test specimens shall be 100 mm
or 150 mm diameter; the preferred diameter size
is 150 min. The ratio of diameter to the maximum
aggregate size shall be not less than 3.
NOTE 1 Concrete cube testing machines are not normally
suitable for testing cores of smaller diameter in compression.
