The TG guideunit is designedto restrainthe horizontalmovementof a struc-
ture. lt carriesno verticalload and will allowa certainverticalmovementwithin
the limitsof the designedclearance.
The top componentconsistsof a top steel plate underwhich is weldeda steel
rectangularguide bar.The two verticaledgesof the guide bar are facedwith a
PTFE strip recessedapproximatlyhalf its thicknessinto the steel.The bottom
componentconsistsof a steel plate on top of which is welded two (2) steel
guidebars.To each insideverticalface of the guidebars is weldeda polished
stainlesssteelstrip.lf required,the two (2) bottomguidebars can be reinforced
with the additionof verticalstiffenerplates.
The transformation of the above rectangularguide bars to an "L" and "T"
shape type turns the TG unit into the TGU thus permittingUPLIFTRES-

reversed"T" guide bar facedwith PTFE on its lowerverticaland top horizontal

Stainless Steel: To ASTM A-167,type 304. The surfacefinish in contactwith
the PTFE,when measuredin accordancewith CSA standard895, shall not be
greaterthan 0.25 pm arithmeticaverage.
PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene):The PTFE discs are fabricatedf rom pure
unfilledsheets and the PTFE used for the guide bars from 15% glassfilled
strips.All PTFEmaterialis chemicallyetchedon one facefor bonding.
Anchor System: Fusionweldedstuds conformto ASTM A-108. Steel pins
conformto ASTM A-36, A-588 or CSA G40.21-300W.Connectingbolts con-
form to ASTM A-325.
Steel Finish : Exposedsteelsurfacesare zinc metallizedaccordingto CSA G-
189 (AWSC2.2-67),minimumthickness175 microns.The use a primerand
polyurethanesealersystemover the zinc metallizingis recommended.Epoxy
or vinylcoatingsystemscan also be used.
