The document provides instructions for creating a sheet metal part in SolidWorks. It describes how to: 1) create a new sheet metal part using a template, 2) sketch a center point rectangle, 3) create a sheet metal face with default settings, 4) modify the sheet metal thickness, 5) add flanges to both sides of the part, 6) add secondary flanges, 7) create a flat pattern for fabrication, 8) check the bend order annotations, and 9) save the part. The overall goal is to teach how to create basic sheet metal features and use the flat pattern tool.

Create a new sheet metal part. • 5.8.5 Define bend order, bend direction, bend notes, area, sheet metal extents, Learning objectives: and bend table in drawings • Create a sheet metal face. • Modify sheet metal defaults. • Create a sheet metal flange. • Use Flat Pattern. • Review bend order.
Objective Domains Covered:
• 5.8.3 Bend sheet metal features
The completed exercise
1. Create a new part using the Sheet
Metal.ipt template.

2. Start a new 2D sketch on the TOP plane
and create a center point rectangle 1.5in wide by 0.5in tall.

4. From the setup section of the sheet
metal tools select the sheet metal defaults and edit the sheet metal rule that controls the part thickness.

7. Repeat the flange tool to create a
secondary set of flanges at 45 degrees.

8. Select Create Flat Pattern to create a
flattened state of the sheet metal part for detailed drawings and fabrication.
