this application because my work experience, skills and education/training meet the advertised
job requirements and believe I should bring some value to your service.

Work Experience: I have contributed positively in the health and social care sector for the past
two years. My client groups include children, adults with physical disabilities and elderly
persons with support needs (e.g., dementia care, stroke etc). I have achieved this both in
professional course and also in a hospital environment and in the community/service user’s own
home(s). I also have demonstrable experience, understanding and ability to deliver supportive
care either as a lone worker, within a team or under the direction of the doctor, lead nurse and

achieve objectives in their person-centered plans. My values include the promotion of client’s
independence, wellbeing, and comfort. I treat my clients with care, dignity and empathy. I am
also experienced taking and monitoring patients vital signs.
Scenario (a): An elderly client felt unwell and came to the hospital where I work as an auxiliary
nurse. The lead nurse advised that I took body parameters including the temperature, pulse,
blood pressure and pulmonary rate.
I explained what I intended to do and how, this ensured that the client was included in his
own care and also felt comfortable with me. I also obtained their verbal consent. I made use of
the correct equipment in their recommended methods. I recorded the readings legibly, correctly
and handed over to the nurse. The nurse was able to quickly use my records in making relevant
health advice and intervention. This contributed positively to the client’s experience under my
care. Skills: I have acquired the following transferable skills relevant to your client groups;
effective lone worker able to will act on own initiative to make a situation safe and report any
concerns as required, compassion, flexibility, positive attitude, thrive in a busy work
environment, work under pressure. Teamwork with others in my team delivering excellent care
services. I am also an adept chef able to prepare healthy meals for service users.
I have excellent verbal and non-verbal communications skills; this ensures effective information
receipt and transmission from/to service users, work colleagues and other internal and external
partners. I maintain confidentiality such that my client’s details are only available to others on a
need-to-know basis.
Partnership working with patients/service users, relatives, careers/support workers and the
public, community (and mental health) teams, line managers, colleagues, therapists, social
services, medical colleagues, and relevant voluntary sectors.

Scenario (b): I provided domiciliary care for an elderly man who had suffered a partial stroke
which impacted on his speech and the use of an arm/leg on one side of the body. I was keenly
aware that my provision of wholesome support would be dependent on partnership working and
effective communication. While on duty, the client made gestures with
his other hand requesting the phone. I calmly approached him with a pen and paper alongside the
phone, he scribbled his daughter’s name which I found on the phone and dialled. I note he
enjoyed listening to his daughter who in turn advised me of a family event at the weekend for
which I needed to book a taxi to facilitate his attendance. I arranged transportation well ahead of
time. I also planned ahead of the day; I attended on time, completed client’s personal care
(including dressing and grooming). We got to the venue on time and my client was happy to
meet his friends, family and daughter.
This outcome was achievable by my ability to maintain effective communication
appropriate to audience and work in partnership with others in achieving best outcomes.
