other Nature has endowed East Coast region

with her bounty in the form of huge mineral
reserves of the country. Huge reserves of core
minerals of the country like iron ore, manganese ore,
bauxite, lime stone, dolomite, chrome ore, coal are located
in the region. In a bid to exploit the loading potential and to
meet the burgeoning demand of the upcoming industries
and also to fulfill the growing aspiration of the people of
this region, this railway has undertaken a host of projects.

(i) NEW LINES Projects
The 164 km long Koraput - Rayagada New BG line
commissioned in 1995 is a engineering marvel which
traverses through the Eastern Ghat mountain ranges
comprising 36 tunnels, 77 major bridges and 342 minor
bridges. The construction of further 174 Km long Talcher -
Sambalpur New BG Rail Link is also another feather in the
cap of this Railway which was commissioned in August
1998 connecting coastal Odisha with its Western part and
providing a shorter and alternative route. This Rail link is
an instrument for cultural assimilation of the people of
Odisha. Another major project connecting Daitari –
Tunnel of KR Project Keonjhar - Banspani (155 Km) long was completed
during the year 2007. This project facilitated the
transportation of iron ores from the hinterland to major
ports on the Eastern Coast i.e. Paradeep & Dhamara.
 (ii) Gauge Conversion Projects
Under the “Project Uni-gauge” the Naupada-Gunupur line (90 Km) has been converted from
narrow gauge to broad gauge and passenger traffic commissioned on 21.8.2011.Now there is
more M.G. or N.G. line exist for conversion in E.Co.R

(iii)Doubling Projects
To exploit the full potential of coal loading, doubling of the 195 km Talcher-Paradeep section
has been completed. Doubling of 264 Km long Titilagarh – Vizianagaram line has also been
completed for traffic flow to VSKP Port. The doubling work between Khurda Road to Puri (43
kms) is in progress, out of which, the work upto Delang (15 kms) has been completed. The
doubling between Sambalpur-Rengali (22.7 Km) has been completed during the year 2011.
