Contoured Shirttail New Cutting Structures

Contoured Shirttail design allows for the maximum evacuation of
cutting while minimizing the amount of cuttings packed into the
bearing.
Increased Cone Overhang
Atlas Copco’s engineers have increased cone overhang between
the lug and the hole wall. This allows for easier evacuation of
cuttings, less shirttail lip erosion for increased bearing life and
reduced frictional drag against the hole wall, lowering the bit’s
overall torque requirements.
The HD+ is equipped with new cutting structures that contribute
to higher penetration rates and increased bit life.
Our redesigned gauge and transition areas are stronger, minimizing
tooth breakage. Newly developed proprietary carbide grades are
tailored to handle abrasive as well as hard formation environments.
HD+ features a variety of carbide tooth shapes to enhance the bit’s
penetration rates in harder and tougher formations.

Increased Shirttail Thickness
The new HD+ also featured increased shirttail thickness,
enhancing bearing life. Increased shirttail thickness helps prevent
early exposure of the outer bearings, adding to performance and
bit life. Our engineers redesigned the bearing elements to give the
cones better balance and distribution of cutting forces allowing for
higher levels of WOB and RPM.

Atlas Copco´s product development engineers

have spent years studying specific applications and
have designed the ultimate blasthole bit solution
using the latest 3-D design and engineering tools,
including Finite Element Analysis (FEA). HD+ core
technology includes an improved cutting structure with more
wear and/or fracture resistant carbide grades to maximize
penetration rates. Engineers have also refined the bearing system
to efficiently handle increased loads associated with today’s
challenging blasthole drilling environments.

The Secoroc HD+ is ultimately designed to increase your drilling

productivity to lower your Total Drilling Cost (TDC).
