Title: Audio Edi ng Assignment Report

Objec ve: The purpose of this assignment was to record three dis nct audio clips using a smartphone,
manipulate them using Audacity for edi ng, and then analyze the edited audio using RX9 Advanced
Audio Editor. The task involved spli ng, joining, and overlapping the recorded audio clips to create three
new composite audio files.
Materials (So ware and Devices) Used:

1. Smartphone for recording (M4a format)

2. Windows Opera ng Sytem

3. Audacity for audio manipula on

4. RX9 Advanced Audio Editor for spectrum analysis

Procedure:

1. Recording:

 Take 1 (Indoors): Chose a quiet indoor loca on, minimized background noise, and
recorded a short audio clip.

 Take 2 (Outdoors): Captured an audio clip in an open outdoor environment to introduce

natural ambient sounds.

 Take 3 (Closet): Recorded an audio clip inside a closet to experiment with confined space
acous cs.

2. Edi ng in Audacity:

 Spli ng Take 1: Loaded the first audio clip into Audacity, iden fied a suitable break
point, and split it into two separate sec ons. Exported the split sec ons as individual
mp3 files.

 Joining Take 1 and Take 2: Imported both Take 1 and Take 2 into Audacity, aligned them
seamlessly, and exported the combined audio as a new mp3 file.

 Overlapping Take 1 and Take 3: Brought Take 1 and Take 3 into Audacity, adjusted their
ming to overlap in an interes ng manner, and exported the overlapped audio as an
mp3 file.

3. Analysis with RX9:

 Spectrum Analysis: Loaded each exported mp3 file into RX9 to examine the spectrum
and frequency distribu on of the edited audio. Observed changes in waveform and
frequencies due to the edi ng manipula ons.

 Observa ons: Noted how the indoor split audio exhibited different characteris cs from
the outdoor-merged and closet-overlapped audio, showcasing the impact of different
environments and edi ng techniques on the final sound.

Conclusion: This assignment provided hands-on experience in audio recording, edi ng, and analysis. It
demonstrated the crea ve possibili es of manipula ng audio using tools like Audacity and analyzing the
spectral details with RX9. The project highlighted the importance of considering the recording
environment and how edi ng techniques can influence the final auditory experience.

Note: All recorded audios and edited files are available for review.
