Instruction: Create one work method measurements example.

Work measurement is a series of techniques employed to evaluate the time

needed to complete a task by an employee. These work measurements have a
variety of methods that come in many types; however, I will expound on one of the
many types of work measurement methods. So, the work measurement method that
I choose to give an example is the Stop Watch Time Study, wherein this method is
one of the equipment used for time study to measure the time taken by an operator
to complete the work. Below is an example of the Stop Watch Time Study.

Scenario:
Imagine a manufacturing company that produces biscuits such as fita
crackers. Let's say the Monde M.Y. San Corporation, wherein Monde M.Y. San
Corporation wants to improve the efficiency of its assembly line to reduce
production time, minimize errors, and enhance overall productivity. To achieve this,
they conducted a stopwatch time study to measure and optimize the assembly line
process by identifying bottlenecks and reducing the time it takes to produce the
crackers. In a way, they instigated an observer of an employee working on the
packaging stage of the crackers. By this, the observer timed the employee through a
stopwatch on what time it should take to complete a specific task under normal
conditions.

Computation:
Formula: Standard Time (ST)= (observed time x rating factor) /
performance rating
• Observed Time (O.T.): The time measured using a stopwatch for a particular
task or work element during the time study.
• Rating Factor (R.F.): It is a factor that accounts for allowances such as
personal fatigue, unavoidable delays, and other factors that might affect the
worker's performance.
• Performance Rating (P.R.): It is a rating that reflects the worker's
performance compared to the standard or the ideal arrangement.

Let's say the observer observed a worker packing a cracker and putting it into the
boxes that took 1 minute (60 seconds) to complete. The observer determines that
the Rating Factor for this task is 80% because the machines are a bit slower, which
causes unavoidable delays, and the worker is a bit tired. The worker's Performance
Rating is 90% because they are slightly slower than the standard. So the calculation
for the Standard Time is as follows:
Formula: Standard Time (ST)= (observed time x rating factor) / performance
rating

ST = (60 seconds x 80%) / 90%

ST = (60 seconds x 0.8) / 0.9
ST = 53.3333 seconds

The designated Standard Time for the assembly work is 53.3333 seconds,
indicating that, in optimal circumstances and with ideal execution, the task should be
completed within this timeframe. Therefore, with the implementation of the
Stopwatch Time Study method in this certain context, the Monde M.Y. San
Corporation may effectively identify certain places within their assembly line where
enhancements in efficiency can be made, resulting in a reduction of production time
and an overall improvement in the quality of their products. The utilization of a data-
driven strategy enables the organization to make well-informed decisions aimed at
optimizing its operations and maintaining competitiveness within the food
manufacturing sector.
