 We use was & were to talk about the past.


E.g.: - He is home today.
- He was home yesterday.
 The past of there is = there was
 The past of there are = there were
E.g.: - There was a party at the school last night.
- There were two absent students last week.

Past time expressions


We can use the past simple with these time expressions:
This morning, yesterday, last night, last week, last month, last
year.
E.g.: - He was late for work this morning.
- She wasn’t in class last week.
