Introductions
● Team process refers to the different type of communications, activities, and

interactions that contribute to the teams ultimate end goal.

In this presentation, we will go over:

1. Task Work Process

2. Team Work Process

3. Communication

4. The Importance of Team Process

5. Ways organizations can advocate team process.

Can you guys think of any type of team that have accomplish a goal

Task Work Process

– Activities that focuses on


generating novel, useful ideas &
solutions

Members share information


and everyone works together
to reach an agreement. –

– Involves three types of activities


with people other than those part of
the team. (Which we will go over)
Task Work Process: Creative Behavior

● Research shows team members characteristics, such as

expertise and attention to detail, affects creativity in

teams.

● The best known creative activity is brainstorming,

which is when team members think and offer as many

ideas as possible to resolve a problem or issue.

● (Not included in textbook but people will be most

creative when they are motivated.


Task Work Process: Decision Making

● Decisions are the final solution agreed among members.

● Team members share information regarding of a problem or

a task and everyone works together to reach a general

agreement to the final solution, which in the book is referred

to as ‘consensus’.
Task Work Process: Boundary Spanning

○ Ambassador activities– communication that are intended to

protect the team, persuade others to support the team, or

obtain important resources for the team.

○ Task coordinator activities– involve communications that

are intended to coordinate task-related issues with people

or groups in other functional areas.

○ Scout activities– refers to thinks team members do to

obtain information about technology, competitors, or the

broader marketplace.
Team Work Process

● Transition processes are teamwork activities that focus on preparation for future work.

● Whereas transition processes are important before and between periods of taskwork,
action processes are important as the taskwork is being accomplished

● Interpersonal processes is important before, during, or between periods of taskwork, and


relates to the manner in which team members manage their relationships.
Communication
● Communicator Issues: The biggest factor in
collaboration. Can either have incompetent
listeners or incompetent communicators
● Noise: How the message is being
transmitted. Depending on the kind of
environment you are in can affect the
message
● Information Richness: The amount of depth
the information has. (Speaking face to face)
Team States (The Results)

● Cohesion: Having an emotional bond with


team members. Gives high motivation and
drive.
● Potency: Believing in the team and having the
faith of navigating with the team
● Mental models: Having the common
understanding and competence of what your
team can do
● Transactive Memory: Having team members
with specialized knowledge
Why Are Team Processes Important?

● Team processes give the incentives for team members to have a


commitment to the organization or the firm. Also known as “team
viability”
● Having team processes also enhance performance and speedy
collaboration
● Essentially, team processes is what gathers a group of individuals to
work together and to achieve a goal.
What Can Organization Do?

The level of output by an individual is tied into the level of commitment delivered by said
company
