The history of pizza
Long time ago in Italy, in the year 1000 A.D.,
people used to eat bread but what they really enjoyed from the bread was the “Picea”, which is a Latin word meaning crust. Years later, in Naples, which is a place southeast Rome, women used to combine flour, olive oil, lard, cheese and herbs to produce a pie. This pie was very popular and people thought that it was the best in the country.
Within time, this pie become so famous
that people start combining different elements to produce pies with different flavors but one thing was always kept, and it was the flour crust. This is why people began to call this dish: Picea, and finally: Pizza.
The most popular of all pizzas is the Pizza
Margherita, in honor of the Italian Queen Margherita. This is the result of combining flour, olive oil, lard, cheese and herbs whit a touch of white mozzarella cheese, red tomato and basil. These last three elements resemble the Italian flag because of their colors: white, red and green.
