HOD’s Comments: It is pleasing to see that the percentage pass is good. A lot hard work and effort is needed in Year 12B. We are closing following
on the revision plan and team teaching has been introduced to imorove the overall results. This initiative is working well with the students and progesion is visible.

HOD’s Co m m e n t s : The results for Year 12s are not as expected though thoriugh revision was conducted with them. Slight improvement is shown by the Year 13 but the quality
pass was not achieved. As seen from Vosa Vaka Viti,Year 12 results is not good at all and shows the lack of students dedications towards their work. Year 13s are gaining momentum
and the department members are workjing hard for pass. Academic counselling is needed for Year 12s and parents are encouraged to be part of the discussion.

5.0 COVERAGE OF PRESCRIPTIONS/SYLLABUS
Coverage for all levels –All coverage was completed well before the annual and final examination.
.

6.0 STUDENTS EXERCISE BOOKMARKING

Students’ exercise books – are marked every fortnight by their teachers. Teachers keep bookmarking records. A copy is submitted to the HOD. Student
book verification is done by the HOD every month. The school admin also verifies the books of students.

7.0 STUDENTS TEXTBOOKS

All textbooks returned and clearance done.

8.0 LESSON OBSERVATION/LESSON NOTES/LESSON PLAN

Two lesson observations were carried out as per the schedule in the college calendar. The department teachers were observed and a report
was submitted in the monthly report to the administrators for their perusal and advice.

9.0 TEACHING STRATEGIES USED.

Teachers use a variety of methods to enhance their teaching methods. The methods that worked out for slow learners are as
follows:

 Addressing student mistakes after short tests, trials and annual examinations.

 Providing constructive feedback to students on their performance

 Cooperative learning- students of mixed abilities work together. Small groups are created during writing classes and this
method has worked out.

 Team teaching

10
 In years 9 to 13 unsuccessful students had remedial classes. The revision was thorough by being provided with worksheet
questions from the 2016 to 2022 papers. Every exam class were visited and revised/taught a lesson each week and weaker areas
were taught by the teachers who feel more comfortable in that field, although team teaching is not currently being carried out for
normal classes.

 Years 9 to 13 had Mid-Year examinations and Short test 3. Admittedly, no matter how much a candidate knows, timing that
knowledge is also the greatest determiner of the final mark, especially for a subject such as English.

 Also, the system of check-marking of scripts in the department has proven to be a realistic yardstick for noteworthy
improvements. Some teachers have yet to realize its benefits as a learning experience.

10.0 LIBRARY CLASSES

Teachers take students to the Library every week and supervise these classes. During the Library class, the students borrow storybooks to read. During
this lesson, students also carry out their research work. Students have been utilizing the library classes very effectively as the majority of students have
exhibited higher reading achievement, better comprehension skills and an increased vocabulary.

11.0 WORKSHOPS AND PROJECT MODERATION

Project moderation for years 12 and 13 was done in week 3 of this term while Vosa Vaka Viti and Hindi were in week 5.

11
12.0 TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCES
The department would like to thank MOE for providing the textbooks to the school. The school is well-equipped with learning resources.

13.0 REMEDIAL WORK

Remedial work is an important and challenging aspect of learning as most students continuously neglect to do remedial. Some examples
of remedial done were re-teaching of concepts, group work, and colleague teaching in areas of expertise among us members, Students
who were not performing were followed closely and were encouraged with revision worksheets and other strategies.

14.0 OPPORTUNITIES

The department is well-resourced in terms of texts and material requests. Great appreciation is rendered to the Principal, and the vice
principal for suggesting the inclusion of more texts especially at all levels (Years 9 to 13).

15.0 IMPROVEMENT STRATEGIES

Internal Exam Marks- Exam questions analysis, thorough remedial work, item analysis, subject teacher/HOD. Meeting – written reminders/
Task outlines (HOD/AP). Deadlines- monitoring regularly LTP, prescription, Workbooks, Notebooks VP/P

16.0 RECOMMENDATIONS

 Teachers designed more activities in class and time them rather than just using texts.

 Every minute of Term 3 was utilized well for the exam takers whether it was in the classroom, in discussions or in revision sessions.

 Absenteeism needs great improvement for better coverage and therefore output.

17.0 DEPARTMENT MEETINGS

12
A total of 3 department meetings have been held this term.

18.0 CONCLUSION

I take this opportunity to thank the Principal and the vice principal for their assistance and necessary pieces of advice. Needless to say, the
language Department members will require a concerted effort to achieve the targets set.

Nevertheless, they are sincerely appreciated for the work commitment shown and are urged to put in tenfold.

It is hoped that the above stringent measures will further reward all stakeholders towards optimum achievement.

I wish the department all the very best and continued progress in imparting Language skills to the students.
