1.0 Introduction
An iTax enhancement has been effected to incorporate a work-flow for the
registration and Cancellation of Monthly Rental Income (MRI) Tax. This will
apply to new taxpayers who want to on-board MRI. Taxpayers who want to
onboard and file MRI returns will be required to apply for addition of the
obligation through iTax and this will undergo an approval process at the
respective Tax Service Office (TSO) (i.e. similar process for the addition of other
obligations like VAT and PAYE). This enhancement will support reduction of
cases of erroneous MRI obligation registrations. The registration and
cancellation process can also be facilitated via iTax back-office by officers if the
taxpayer is unable to initiate the application on the iTax Portal.

This change does not affect the MRI filing process.

(v) Select Income Tax Rent Income then enter Registration date. Click on the
submit button then confirm —all the other necessary details.

(vi) After successful application, a confirmation message will be displayed with the
Acknowledgement number that is unique to the application. The same will be
communicated to the taxpayer’s email address.
(vii) A Task for approval of the Obligation Application will be created for an officer
at the respective Tax Service Office (TSO). Therefore, filing the first MRI return
will only be possible once this application is approved.

(v) A task for approval of the MRI obligation cancellation request will be created
for an officer in the respective TSO for approval. The obligation will only be
